Succeeding part two of Monty Luke’s ‘Nightdubbing’ series on Rekids, the US-via-Berlin artist unveils an album of the same name on Radio Slave’s lauded Rekids imprint. ‘Nightdubbing’ encompasses the first two instalments and adds five more tracks of intricate sonic material, completing this gorgeous work of art already supported by Fred P, nd_baumecker, Louise Chen, and Laurent Garnier. 

Luke’s ‘Nightdubbing’ album starts in the club, with the rave-primed ‘40 Acres And A Terabyte’ utilising the rich melodies of deep house alongside the crushing weight of subs. It is followed by the title track, with ‘Nightdubbing’ taking a more traditional house route, its soothing sounds enveloping the listener while honing in on that reverb sweet spot. 

Black Catalogue boss and former Planet-E label manager Monty Luke’s timeless ‘Nightdubbing’ effortlessly traverses deep house and techno rife with bass-rattling low-end and experimental rhythms. It is no surprise, then, that the album is heavily inspired by ‘70s and mid-80s dub reggae, seeing Luke incorporate and modernise the genre’s iconic rhythms, spoken word poetry, and spacious bursts of harmony across the LP, particularly in tracks like ‘Cop Outside’ and ‘Travelling ‘Round The Sun’.

‘Bob Molly’ picks up pace with nods to Caribbean dem bow-like rhythms of old, Monty Luke filling the space between its infectious beat with tumbling percussion and echoing plucks. Tracks like ‘Supernova’, ‘New World / Old Future’ and ‘Starstorms’ return to the modern-day traditions of club music while ‘Gamma Raze’, ‘Future Mystic’, and ‘Roots’ again find room in between the dancefloor and sound system listening sessions. The ambient ‘Theme From Nightdubbing’ is another stand-out on the album, successfully leaving an opening to escape the world through music and making the mind wander via swirling melody and sparse drums.

Portland based act Dancing Plague has been a steady presence in the dark/cold electronic music scene for quite a few years now. Since 2016 Conor Knowles’ solo project has been putting out one constant flow of independent releases creating one sonic palette rich with EBM, goth, industrial and synth influences.
Their 5th studio album continues to flesh out and perfect their unique brand of crushing darkwave. Elogium explores themes of loss, regret, rebirth and growth coupled with throbbing basslines, rave synths, and pounding drums. Knowles balances aggressive waves of electronics with enough pop sensibilities and catchy hooks to be inviting to those new to the genre. His skills can be clearly appreciated on tracks like the first single Fading Forms which explores the somber feeling of the years passing you by. Knowles’ emotive baritone crooning paints a melancholic picture of the slow fading of time as you feel like you’re fading with it. 
Fans of classic icons such as Depeche Mode, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails as well as contemporary torchbearers Cold Cave and Kontravoid do not sleep on this.
Plenty of disturbing beauty to be found in the depths of the underground.

Polish multi-instrumentalist Kuba Sojka debuts on Rekids’ RSPX imprint.

Opening track ‘Whispers’ on Kuba Sojka’s ‘Life’ EP on Rekids Special Projects is a piece of brilliantly stripped-back yet evocative tech house, perfectly swung with clipped vocals and acidic synth pulses that bring boundless late-night energy. Next, the superb ‘ID’ unfolds at a slower tempo with a sense of mystery and intrigue. The drums again swing low, this time with groaning pads up top, speaking of a desolate landscape as keys trickle in the distance.

‘ID’ is a brilliantly cinematic cut that keeps you on your toes, while Sojka’s ‘Revived’ rides on big dub techno waves with fizzing pads up top and percussion sprinkled over the vast rolling kicks. Last of all, ‘Final Process’ entrances with rich layers of silky synths trailing off into a cosmic sky as the mid-tempo drums make for a supple groove down low. 

A live performer, musician, and producer Kuba Sojka draws on a plethora of sounds such as funk, jazz, and soul. He brings an experimental edge to his music and, under his Kuba Sojka and Psi-Acoustic project, has explored IDM, electro, future jazz, and acid. He has landed on labels like Mathematics, Matrix Records, International Day Off Records, and now Radio Slave’s RSPX.

Master Que Sakamoto (SXDNS320) and mysterious NT teamed up again and came up with a couple of outstanding underground gems embedded in their convergent and divergent influences, a chemistry we have seen before issued on vital outlets such as Not An Animal, Throne Of Blood, Wonder Stories, Roam, Ombra International, Playground, WARNING, fabric, HEARec, among others. For their return on the latter, the remixes were under the responsibility of Demian, who delivered not one but two interpretations, and DJ Rally – and guess what? Mission extremely well accomplished. 

Premiered here, the also mysterious DJ Rally’s take on the fat “Daisan No Me Ga Hiraita” matches the stamina of the original but comes wrapped in a less acid and more minimalistic aura with a gripping hypnotic gait triggered by omnipresent synth chords paired with complex elements and speech-like vocals. Kudos!

In March this year COD3 QR delivered a digital threesome from DJ Deep, Avision and Deetron.  Now, twice as much is coming in June for the label's first vinyl-only release, with each artist bringing a second track to the platter.  As usual the tracks have been selected by Laurent Garnier for the label whose ethos is: Music diversity is our strength!

Fortunate to grow up around the rich club culture of NYC and influenced by the sounds around him, Avision started young on the turntables at the age of 12, gained his first residency at 15, and hasn't looked back since.  Around that time, he also began to hone his production skills and developed a distinctly New York-flavoured techno and house sound which is evident on "Hold No Groove" and "Talk Is Cheap".  It's the recognisable sound he's previously brought to the likes of Cocoon, Ellum, Drumcode and Hardgroove.  

Having been involved with making and playing music for over 20 years, Deetron is an artist who is assured in his ambitions and a skilled performer, maintaining a high level of quality in every aspect of his career: from mind-boggling three-deck DJ sets to his special touch on remixes or his diverse range of productions.  In 2014 he launched his own imprint, Character.  But has also graced the likes of Axis, Music Man, Subject Detroit, Running Back, Rekids and more.  Here he brings the original techno sound of "Pulse", alongside the deeper "Corazon".

DJ Deep got the party started on the digital version with "What's Going On".  It's now accompanied by the hypnotic "Transition".  So, it's no surprise to hear he started playing at clubs and raves in Paris in the late '80s / early '90s, including Laurent's renowned Wake Up at Rex.  The respected and versatile DJ, producer, label-boss and party curator is just at home helming the decks at major venues as well as mixing radio shows for Gilles Peterson's Worldwide FM.  As a producer his critically acclaimed appearances on Rekids, Kaoz Theory and Tresor, not to mention his own Deeply Rooted, have demonstrated his imaginative approach to house and techno.
