Meet Ġorġ Vella, better known as STK, a 24-year-old DJ from Gozo, Malta. DJing since August 2022, he recently ventured into music production. Interestingly, this marks two years since he recorded his first Locals mix. Reflecting on how his style and technique have evolved over time, STK is eager to hear this new mix alongside his first to appreciate his growth as an artist.

STK's journey into electronic music began with a series of lockdown sets posted by Void, Selekt, and Indigo. A standout set by Aspekt sparked his deep dive into techno, and discovering Chlar cemented his love for the genre. Chlar’s unique sound continues to inspire him as he hones his craft.

For STK, DJing is far more than just spinning tracks. It is about being a purveyor of vibes and emotions, understanding the set time, acoustics, the sound system, the promotion, and most importantly, the crowd. These are the foundations he has built on through experience and countless conversations about the art of DJing. Over time, he has realized that breaking norms, taking risks, and expanding tastes are essential to forming a unique identity as an artist.

STK credits much of his inspiration to local artists like Patient, Muski, and Gordon Flash, while Damz and Nikky have shaped his perspective on presence and technique. He also admires Manthrax and Sean Rickett for their brilliance and insights into the scene, his favorite B2B partner Georg, and the turntablism of Echofaze. On the production side, he looks up to Acidulant, Human Safari, and Yazmin for constantly pushing boundaries and reaching new heights.

As a DJ, STK thrives on the liminal experience of connection, the energy radiating from the dancefloor, the inhibitions fading as early arrivals settle into the vibe, and the continuous exchange of emotions. Whether fueling a frenzy during the early hours of a 6-hour party or weaving a story through a 3-hour set at a 24-hour rave, this dynamic reassessment of energy is what makes DJing so fulfilling for him.

For STK, this process defines his artistry and his commitment to creating unforgettable moments on the dancefloor.
