'Dropbar' is the first single from Kelvin T's forthcoming LP 'Unlock Voice', which will release on 9th November via Absurd TRAX.

Kelvin T’s last recording, the 'Sedative' EP, was about self-discovery and finding his own voice. Having accomplished that, he was compelled to raise a different question altogether: "Is it possible to ‘train’...a synthetic sound to possess a voice and sing on its own?"

In 'Unlock Voice', the first full length album from Kelvin T, he avoids the lyrical mode- instead of treating sound as a means to communicate his own feelings, he wants to fashion a key to ‘unlock’ the expressive potentiality of each sound, each being an entity, a singularity in its own right. The opening track ‘Dropbar’, for instance, sees Kelvin fantasizing about what it would be like for kick drums to punch him successively in the stomach, all while a synthesizer melody coaxes him into submission. In ‘Escaped’, on the other hand, a bleeding synth groans pleadingly at the listener, making for an unsettling experience. The result of Kelvin’s latest experiments in sonic necromancy is a visceral, tactile, kinetic exercise, assaulting the nervous system like rave music from some abyssal cellar.

“Maybe, if there’s a soul locked inside a sound, can I teach the synths and the drums to scream at me and cry through the speakers? If synthesizers and samplers (no matter whether they are hardware or software) can talk, would they scream at their masters or sing while crying?”

A Golem is mythical, humanlike figure made from clay and magically able to move on its own. In the Bible, Golem is an unfinished human being, without a soul. Through the process of its own evolution and its makers' experiments, a Golem can contain or generate its own soul. It can appear in different interconnected forms and reproduce itself at will. A golem with a soul, in order to speed up its own evolution, will sometimes supersede or devour the original form of life. The album Golem is inspired from this source. Shanghai native 33EMYBW (Wu Shanmin) has been an active member in the Chinese music scene for over a decade. A core member of Shanghai’s most well known experimental rock/electronic band ‘Duck Fight Goose’, over the years 33 has been a member of numerous bands including 33 Island, Boojii and Muscle Snog. In 2015, 33EMYBW released her first solo single "EMSYGYDL" on SVBKVLT’s ‘Downpour’ compilation and in 2017 released her debut album ‘Medusa’ on Beijing’s DForce Records. As well as regularly playing throughout China, she has performed at CTM Festival and Sinotronics Festival in Germany, China Drifting Festival in Switzerland and SXSW.

On November 9th 100% Silk is set to release SILK109, the eight track Dream Operator album by Manchester based producer Olsen. The Los Angeles label, specializing in releases cloaked in hiss and nostalgia since 2011, has appropriately stocked a bundle of off-white cassettes for the producer’s label debut. Olsen (Andrew Anderton) fits well within the roster which has featured artists such as The Cyclist, Jupiter Jax and Octo Octa amongst others.Coming off of a four track vinyl release on Mister Saturday Night earlier this year, Anderton spent the summer creating a compilation of house tracks he described as “swampy weirdness.” With layers of synths, samples and ambient noise serving as the bed of sound, Dream Operator is equal parts warm and chilling. Calming the listener with its melodies while maintaining a subtle edge of ambiguity in its sound design, the record has been dubbed as “miasma-house” by 100% Silk.
“After Glow,” the third track of side one, is no exception to this description. With a consistent tape hiss settled underneath, the kick drum chugs along adding subtle variations from the start. As a ping-ponged hi-hat pattern swings from left to right, a set of lazy jazz chords are introduced with additional keyboard melodies serving as the perfect compliment as more layers are introduced at the end of the sequence.

Everything seems to be dripping in tape delay and reverb, creating space for the bassline to wander about, drifting in and out of one ear with consistent variations and fills as more percussive elements arrive. A simple vocal sample rides beneath the structure, drenched in delays and hiss, perfectly complimenting the warmth of the melodies with its hazy mysterious tone. With its meandering melodies and bassline, “After Glow” is reminiscent of Selected Ambient Works while also staying true to the warbled features of lo-fi trends today. A fitting fall record, Dream Operator is both reflective and forward, preparing one’s senses for the coming winter while also looking back at the year that was.

Returning for his second release on Los Angeles based imprint TAR, BEAN presents the PSYCHO EP, a five-track package of pointillist textures, animated synths and frenetic instrumentals due November 9th.

Recorded over two weeks locked away in his apartment, PSYCHO is a turbulent fever dream of contrasting moods and agitated rhythms. Elements of ambient and trance are moulded into abstract sketches with heavy processing, bouncing off each other to form a new aesthetic of their own, whilst references to grime and industrial provide an undercurrent of grit.

PSYCHO runs hastily through a sea of emotions and settings, reflecting a cathartic burst of energy with a multigenre take on contemporary electronic music.
