New Month, new Mix - diesmal mit Hannie Phi (@hannie-phi)! Nachdem sie uns mit ihrem Set im Teergarten begeistert hat (https://soundcloud.com/hannie-phi/hannie-phi-teergarten-institut-fuer-zukunft-11072021), freuen wir uns umso mehr, dass Hanna für die Juli-Ausgabe einen Mix für uns aufgenommen hat. Was eine geplatzte Reise mit der transsibirischen Eisenbahn mit ihrem DJ-Werdegang zu tun hat, könnt ihr im Interview lesen:

Seit wann legst du auf und wie bist du dazu gekommen?

Ich lege seit Anfang 2020 auf. Mein eigentliches Ziel für 2020 war es mit der transsibirischen Eisenbahn durch Russland zu reisen. Leider kam da Corona dazwischen. Da ich vorher schon ab und zu an den Mixern von Freund:innen gestanden habe und es mir Spaß gemacht hat, auch selbst den einen oder anderen Übergang zu spielen, investierte ich mein Reisegeld zum 1. Lockdown in zwei Plattenspieler und einen Mixer und stehe seitdem fast täglich an den Turntables. Mein Highlight 2020 war es dann auf dem SoJungNimmerMehr Festival und ein paar Openairs aufzulegen. Die Investition hat sich also gelohnt und meine Russlandreise wird trotzdem nachgeholt! 

Gibt es Momente beim Auflegen, die du als besonders empowernt empfindest?

Wenn ich vor einer Crowd auflege, bin ich zu Beginn immer noch ziemlich aufgeregt und setze mit zitternder Hand die Nadel auf die Platte. Sobald  ich diese Aufregung nach den ersten Übergängen überwunden habe und ich merke, dass ich es schaffe einen guten Vibe auf die Tanzfläche zu bringen, macht mich das glücklich und dieses Gefühl pusht mich. Zu sehen, dass zunehmend mehr FLINTA Personen in der Leipziger Clubszene präsent sind, empfinde ich als gute Entwicklung und macht mich stolz ein Teil davon zu werden. 

Welcher ist dein All-Time-Favourite-Track?

Schwierige Frage! All-Time-Favourite-Künstlerin ist Nelly Furtado forever! Ein Track von ihr - Give it to me - gibt es auch als einen ziemlich groovigen Deephouse Edit. Ich freu mich schon, diesen bald mal auf die Tanzfläche zu bringen! 

Was hat dich für deinen Feat.Fem Mix inspiriert? Hab es eine bestimmte Stimmung oder Gedanken, den du dabei im Kopf hattest?

Als ich gefragt wurde, ob ich ein Set für Feat.Fem aufnehmen möchte, steckten wir noch mitten im Lockdown Nr.3. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt wagte ich mir noch gar nicht auszumalen, überhaupt mal wieder auf einer Tanzfläche zu stehen. Deswegen hatte ich Lust auf ein Set, welches man sowohl von der Couch aus hören kann, als auch laut beim Putzen oder abends beim Zusammensitzen mit der Peergroup. Also setzte ich mich einen Nachmittag vor mein Plattenregal und stellte eine bunte Mischung aus eintspannten, groovigen und deepen Housetunes zusammen. Mein perfekter Lockdown-Mix!

Lu’s artistic career has it roots in Groningen, NL. Inspired by the local scene she dedicated herself to the finest underground sounds, ranging from deep to soulful and groove seeking minimal. In 2016 she co founded the collective The Cave. which successfully filled a gap by throwing warehouse parties in unique locations and showcasing local artists as well as rising talents from all over the world. Digging deep into the treasures of local record stores has certainly influenced her style and contributed to her ability to comprise a broad spectrum of minimal house and techno to electro and breakbeat.

For the Rundfunk series Lu delivers a strictly vinyl mix where she crafted a fine blend of breakbeat, minimal and house grooves that invites you on a dazing trip through the various layers of electronic music.

Codeword w/ Anna Haleta - 31-Oct-21

For our final show of 2021, @codeword-london hosts Biri, one of Tel Aviv’s finest electronic-music exports. @biri1990's signature blend of trippy, hypnotic and deep techno releases have been snapped up by leading labels including Len Faki’s @figure.official, Inland’s @counterchange-inland , Derrick May’s @transmat,  and most recently with his latest EP, 'Untitled Drift' on Psyk’s @nonseries.

Biri’s musical and geographic journey from his hometown Jerusalem to Tel Aviv, via Berlin and now London, also includes a successful collaboration as artist duo Deep’a and Biri and founding the label Black Crow. As a solo artist in his own right, Biri is pushing the boundaries of deep techno and IDM and is on a trajectory that merits serious attention.

Codeword w/ Biri (Threads Radio - 16 Dec 2021)

Codeword returns for its first Threads Radio show of 2022 (episode 27) hosting Viels (@viels), a rising star among a new generation of techno artists. The Milan-based artist has charted releases across labels including Non Series, Semantica, Dynamic Reflection, Edit Select and most recently a 4-track EP on @oscarmulero's Warm Up Recordings.

The founder of End of Perception (@endofperception) and resident at Milan's Acquario Immersioni is gaining recognition for his rugged, mechanical,  intense and groove-filled releases and DJ sets, and this 1h vinyl-only mix for Codeword is no exception.

Codeword w/ Viels (Ep.27 - Threads Radio - 20 Feb 2022)

Codeword hosts Sabinē (@sabina-inoyatova), the Riga-based, Uzbekistan-born DJ, producer, club-programmer and event promoter. 

Sabinē is making waves across central and eastern Europe and Eurasia with her direct, industrial-infused techno - and this 1h mix for Codeword on Threads Radio is no exception.

Having played alongside the likes of Nina Kraviz, Answer Code Request, Perc, Sigha and more, upcoming dates include a debut in Baku, Azerbaijan and an event at her home-base in Latvia with MCMLXXXV.

Once noted for her Detroit, dub-techno and acid influences, in recent years @Raketka has been recognised for her 'out of genre' DJing including making the shortlist for Mixmag mix of the year and appearing on Boiler Room. Codeword hosts CVRDWELL (@cvrdwell), one of the leading figures in Budapest’s underground techno scene. The DJ, producer, sound designer and founder of Vault Budapest event series and record label @vaultimprint confidently announces himself with 90 minutes of groovy, ass-shaking techno with the potency to fire up any dancefloor.  

Channeling hypnotic, groovy and driving techno with analogue, cutting-edge sound design, @cvrdwell is gaining traction with releases on @diffusereality, @warok-music and @postdynamicrecords, plus his own Vault Imprint. Codeword w/ CVRDWELL (Ep. 30 - Threads Radio - 15 May 2022)

After a small hiatus, Polychrome Radio returns to offer the stage to not only a great DJ but also to one of the silent architects of Amsterdam's cultural scene. Pieter de Beaufort impressive work ethic, open mindedness and sharp eye for talent has been instrumental in the recent very active music programming of Oost's multidisciplinary and unique venue, Studio/K. 

As the space's cultural programmer, Pieter has been involved with several local and international projects. Some highlights from the past year include multidisciplinary showcases with Immaterial.Archives and Violazioni Sonore. He also co-organized Sapodilla; an event that explored the origins of house and techno music and its fundamental relation to black and black queer identity and activism through a documentary screening, a panel talk and a subsequent club night at Garage Noord. On top of this, he is currently working on an international collaborative project focused on the intersection between technology, visual art, and music, creating multidisciplinary events throughout Europe that include audiovisual performances, club nights, workshops, and exhibitions.

About the podcast, he expressed "the wish to explore multiple sounds within the realms of ambient, deep techno, and leftfield d&b. I stayed close to my sound by sticking to the eerie atmospheres and multi-deck layers of hypnotic rhythms that form an integral part of my sets. Throughout the set, you’ll find a steady amount of groove at its foundation."

This recording is a very deep voyage into the realms of deeper techno. We felt that groove as much as we felt the unique energy that Pieter has. The energy of the passion for carefully curated music and art. Enjoy !
