You're scratching my back, a broken spine.
All strung out in lines, over the pavement. 
And I'd shrug off all kinds of trauma. 
I'd try to shake out what tissues you left me. 

I'd peel away skin, too thin to sway you.
Put my face to the asphalt.
I'd admire the rubber that strangles my limbs. 
Take in exhaust when I breathe you.

I wake up when sirens say the metal's all fine--threaded and cold through my stomach.
But the sting from the bleeding's not that worthless kind, it's the type that just keeps you from sleeping. 

I've ground my teeth to roots and to nerves. 
To show you for once that I have some. 
And that strain on my heart might be chemistry, sure; but born from amphetamine addiction. 

I'd peel off the ends of these old, healed wounds, to bleed out if you need me to.
What's ugly and trite we bash to look like some splinters, and beauty. 

I'd drive off the edge to open air to feel free for a moment.
