My recent projects ended up pretty dark and mysterious, so I've done an extra one today, a bit lighter using the fantastic Gentle Grand piano by Dan Keen (available on Pianobook.co.uk)

Following on from the theme of sakura, today's everyday takes some inspiration from 'wabi sabi', the Japanese aesthetic of appreciating imperfection and transience.  To this end it's quite minimal and I've used the lovely 'Imperfect Viola' instrument made by Cordaro Rodriguez (pianobook.co.uk)

Some more counterpoint for my everyday today while I work on some other things in the background. I do enjoy the results of these though, simple as they may be. Feels like there's potential to make something really pretty.

Getting back to my projects. Playing with adding some details and synths to this exploration track. Next I need to think how I'll expand it with a new section.

Playing with some ideas to extend the track in a new direction. The transition is a bit abrupt for now, but I do like the sound overall. It will still need something extra to differentiate it from the previous section...I'm thinking maybe some more rhythmic percussion perhaps, or maby bring in some melodies on new instruments

I felt like playing with some synths. today so I played about with making some pre-combat tension music....then I felt like it needed some string texturs...which then led to a sweeping string melody...possibly too much to have in this kind of track...but I do like the sound

I decided to come back and make another pass on this track as I'm getting reacdy to release it on Spotify and I've got some better libraries and techniqes since I last worked on it. I'm happy with where it's at not; there's still a mastering pass to go, but the elements are more where I want them over all. I'll need to do the same for Hero Rises which is sounding a little shabby now, and then I'll be good to release.

Getting back to the project, I've extended the transition as it felt too abrupt before and also starter to carry some elements across to have a bit more of a common thread. It's getting long, but that's ok for an ambient track I think. Still it will need a return to the A section to finish it structurally (and then loop)

Time to mix this one again! Today mostly I was trying to find the right session but also there's some mixing of the live strings and mastering chain. Next up, adding in some of my newer brass and wind libraries

It's interesting coming back to this after a long break; I definitely hear more details that I want to bring out in the mix now. Or maybe it's that watching Dune 2 today has cleaned out my ears.

I've spent the best part of today feeling that I'm very close to finishing the mix and master and even publishing my Hero Rises EP...but found a series of issues and things that need to be fixed...culminating in some digital distortion that seems present in some of my favourite libraires. I've done some temporary fixing to remove the worst of it (removing the instruments in the troubled parts) but I think there's still a couple clicks in here that I need to hunt down. Oh well, it's all a learning experience. Support request sent to Orchestral Tools, and the EP is going to need to wait until at least tomorrow to move forward.

And it's done! I managed to fix the remaining issues through a combination of switching libraries and forensic audio processing. Did a few final touches for good measure and started uploading to the distributor. It's a clear run to release at last :)

In just 75 days I'll tick over the big 1k...need to work out what I want to do with my everydays after that. Especially once I start working more on projects. Maybe I can keep it as 15 mins of composition 'play' each day while I focus on more serious work at that point.

Practicing with moving to doing both an exercise and work on a longer piece today. The exercise still took a bit long to be a reall parallel workflow but I think I can improve it still.

Keeping on the exercises for my daily music. In parallel I'm working on some game score...I'll show that later when it's more developed. For now I need to keep trying to get this parallel composing timing down. I'm getting more fluent at the exercises but still needs to be faster.

Pretty happy with today's exercise...the intervals and position change have a sound I like, plus I managed to do more in a shorter time...and also made progress on other compositions.

It's been a really good day music wise, with progress on lots of projects...starting to get some rhythm and momentum again. So for today's everyday I was able to do something a bit different, exploring some more classic cinematic style.

Fastest exercise yet and I'm pretty pleased with the result. It's short but a nice sketch that could be reusable as part of a bigger composition.

Not much time today...another quick exercise helped! I like the sketch fragment again too, there's some usable elements there.
