Dublin rising star @sputnik_one lands on @facta and @k-lone93’s @wisdomteeth-uk with his most accomplished record yet: a flawless four-tracker of mutant dancefloor gear that draws on broken UK techno, psychedelic tribal, footwork and ravey post-hardcore. 

There are echoes of Shackleton and Olof Dreijer in ‘Love From Above’ and ‘Michael Cera’, whilst ‘Microbead’ and ‘Powder’ offer refreshed and refined takes on modern post-dubstep / post-hardcore club styles. 

Across the record the tempo creeps from 130 to 150, keeping all bases covered as late summer ravers migrate towards darker autumn dancefloors.

‘CLUB POTIONS VOL. 1’ features 5 bass-influenced tracks meant as potions for the modern dancefloor!

The compilation features 'Fortunate Outcome' by Innae, a sub-heavy banger that takes a fresh approach to a classic 2-step groove, and 'Copper Sword' by DJ Truesilver that blends elements of jungle, trap, and drill into a new aesthetic.

On the more experimental end, the compilation also features the intricately sound-designed 'Imperial Burnout' by ALVA ALVA, and the distorted breakbeat-centered tune 'ACURA RSX' by ELCA. Both aim for dystopian dancefloor madness.

Lastly, on the purely functional side, 'HOT PURSUIT' by SIGNS OF WEAKNESS delivers a high-energy car-chase feel, driven by a heavy bassline and persistent breakbeats.

Following up on a cracker split single last year, Overload Liverpool jumps into 2024 firing on all cylinders with a 5 shooter of freaked-out electro, warm house, deep dub cuts, and gorgeous ambient.

Firstly, Liverpool-based label boss Morrison highlights two of his distinct and dissociative styles. On the front end of the A-side, his The Motorist alias provides us with a freaked-out formant-filtered electro that’s bursting at the lips. On the back end, a deep yet bright house cut from his The Cyclist alias, with warm warbling synths layered over his Wurlitzer electric piano and suitably grooved and jaunty beats.

To kick off the deeper B-side of the 12”, Wax Tek, a founder of the Liverpool Soundsystem crew Polyone Audio, hits us right in the chest with his dubbed-out breakbeat wonder, Get Set, which diverges through Balearic, bass music, a delirious breakdown, and hard-hitting breakbeats.

Deeper still, the second B-side from Puncta, another Liverpool-based artist, who last year came to light with their release on Sputnik One’s N-Face, dives into the deep Arctic seas with Snow Crab, an exercise in dubbed-out electro-style bass music.

Finally, Belfast-based Aaron Thomas brings the 12” EP to a fitting closure with Concert², which, washing over the listener, dances like opulent drapes with its ethereal synths that crash to and fro.

B2 - Puncta - Snow Crab

Fetus, who has been gaining more attention with releases on Turing, the label he co-hosts with Oyubi, and on TREKKIE TRAX, will be released on 85acid.

The album begins with Wave Wave with its uplifting bass arpeggio, followed by Martian with its unique breaks and organic vibes. The title track, Flat W, showcases an even kick, and closes with Bug Bait, one of the most functional DJ tools on the album, with precise programming and sound design backed by Drum'n'Bass' experience. The ultimate club tool has been completed.
