Sequentia - Flashback

This song is one of my favorites from the new album "A Song Across Wires". I wrote this track on acoustic instruments (guitar, a six string fretted cello I had built that's like a bass or baritone equivalent of the viola de gamba, glockenspiel and others). Tydi and I worked together on the track (beats and bass) over email and eventually in person. We had a blast in the studio on this and eventually the culmination of these efforts was sent in a rough state to the country artist Plumb.

She wrote a wonderfully simple and catchy vocal. We worked with this vocal for a while and it became apparent after some time that her management and representatives had a different idea about what this song should be and what it should be for so we began looking for new singers (still bummed about this, Plumb is a great artist).

Enter Tanya Zygar. She is friends with Tydi and we sent her the track and she wrote a beautiful verse melody. I sang a multi-track chorus top line and sent it back to her. We went back and forth with iterations of lyrics and eventually settled on a nautical theme (which I love). Stem the Tide is an expression originally used to mean that a ship was sailing against the tide fast enough to make headway over the ground or to move faster than the tide in the opposite direction. 

I spend about a week after all this doing vocal editing, glitching and comping and eventually laid the vocal into the final mix.

All said and done, this song probably took in work hours the better part of 2 months. I worked on in in Logic 6.43 on a 24bit PT rig (OS9), OS X Logic 7 and 9, Live 8 and 9 and was stem printed from Logic 9. 

My favorite thing about it is the acoustic instruments playing in tandem to the analog synths, plugins and glitch elements. Very proud to share this one with you.

Any long running trance fan will know Orkidea, whose music has been gracing clubs for nearly 20 years. His Tribute Mix adds a strong, punchy, groove orientated version to the package. 

Last but not least is Paul Webster who harks back to his original tech orientated sound and gives up a deep, driving and moody feel that polishes off the collection perfectly.

A perfect compliment to the mixes from Moe Aly, Cold Blue and Paul Thomas earlier this year.

'Learning To Live' is a track about all the colorful feelings in life.
It's about the journey of getting to know oneself.
It's about the all the different emotions, which often get surpressed by our tendency to overthink things.

In recent times I have constantly been trying to become more aware of the emotions, which I feel in every single moment.
I have been trying to embrace them as they come, the positive and the negative, the ups and the downs.
Embrace the moments of joy and happiness, moments of gratitude and proud, moments of relief and relaxation, but also embrace the moments of sadness, sorrow or fear.

Instead of analyzing situations and worrying about solutions, the seemingly simple process of 'realising and embracing how I feel' helped me to decide about the 'next step' very often and things became clear much quicker in so many cases.
Suddenly important decisions become obvious and I don't need to overthink them anymore, because intuition shows me the way to go.

This new and exciting awareness literally helps me every day now, in all parts of my life. (Music, Health, Social Relationships,...)
It helps me to feel more alive than ever before and I'm very excited to continue this journey, the process of Learning To Live. :-)

Kayosa & Tolland - Look Around (Original Mix)

Russell Ogden better known as Akira Kayosa, has been working with Glasgow based producer and close friend Hugh Tolland since 2006, releasing material of all forms on a host of respected labels. Both being well known within trance circles for the more uplifting end of the spectrum when working together, this time the guys show their hand down the more progressive route with a slow burning emotive record which fits the bill for their debut together on the ITWT label. 

‘Small Something’ pulls down the tempo and strips back the complexities of normal trance leaving behind the raw emotion, gritty synth work with weaving arpeggiated  lead lines that makes this track tick. Pizz@dox is on hand to deliver a superbly crafted more up tempo reworking of  the original to round off this release in style.

Infrasonic's stalwarts Solis & Sean Truby are back on Interstate for their next vocal masterpiece, teaming up with Alana Aldea with 'I Need You'.

The guys of course no strangers when it comes to creating pure club anthems and this is another exquisite outing from the guys. Emotive chords, silky vocals and big room energy are the order of the day.
