The Eden Project - Circles

Luigi Madonna returns to Drumcode a year after his superb single ‘Primo’ using familiar hooks, huge stabs and monstrous drums that storm across the dance floor which, are common with Mr Madonna. The hard hitting raw vibe of this EP gives Luigi an edge, with fluttering high’s and saturated lows, Luigi’s tracks are a mainstay in all DJ sets. Hello again, for the final time this year.

Presenting the first of two holiday treats for you (the second will be the GDJB Classic Showcase next week) - a special three hour journey for Afterhours.fm's End of Year Countdown celebrations.

Having a three hour timeframe allowed me the opportunity to really express the journey aspect of a set, being able to build things up slowly from the beginning. It's difficult to create one of these sets in a short period, and I'm grateful to have the opporunity to go beyond a normal length studio set to do so.

After about a month of digging, finding, compiling and editing, I managed to get the set completed during Christmas week; in between preparations for the open to close solo sets in New York and Miami.

It is a mix I hope that you will enjoy and appreciate for some time to come, and for those of you not attending a gig on New Year's Eve, it can maybe be your audio of choice to welcome 2015.

Big thanks as always to the AH.fm crew for allowing me to contribute to this yearly event. I think it's the ninth year in a row now that I've been involved. And as always, a huge appreciation to all of you for the love and support throughout the year.

Let's hope we have an incredible 2015 together.

Alex Stein is a true Brazilian (São Paulo) homegrown artist that has his roots all the way from the old continent, his German background -he even has the German citizenship- compelled him day by day to work harder & harder to achieve his unique electronic sound, from an early age he knew this was the way to go. The ‘Bavarian-Brazilian’ has made his own way thru vast musical studies (including Audio Engineering, studied at the SAE Institute in Frankfurt), and much trial & error he got to where he is now. One of the most well-known and revered artists of the new Brazilian techno / techno-house scene. Also worldwide. Whether as a DJ or producer.

His greatest commitment and passion has always been electronic music. Quite clear now. That he represents with all honors the new generation of Brazilian artists, too. Alex Stein begins to be in everyone’s ear beyond his South American borders, not in vain he just released “Aurora” on Suara (highly respected label where Coyu is the head-honcho) as well as “The Challenger & Escape” on the Ukrainian imprint Dear Deer (alongside K.A.L.I.L.) and “Tribute / Cruise Control” with Spuri) via Sincopat… previously in Bunny Tiger, Great Stuff Recordings, ​Herzblut, Tronic, etc. In all those cases he has surpassed all expectations in critical and sales.

It seems he will follow the same footsteps of his friend, fellow of profession and countryman Victor Ruiz. Who is unstoppable publishing on labels such as Senso Sounds, Octopus, Terminal M and of course, Suara. At the same time, he has accumulated an incredible legion of followers, not only in his home nation Brazil, but throughout the world thanks to performances in Canada, South Africa, Australia, and of course the main European capitals. By the way, like Victor, Alex usually spend some time throughout the year in Berlin, the ever-glowing German capital, a perfect place to continue evolving on his greatest passion: techno.

Soma Records is inarguably one of Techno's major forces in 2017 and since it’s inception on the streets of Glasgow, Soma Records has stood for uncompromising quality of the highest level in every area it operates.
Label figureheads Slam formed the label in 1991 together with friends Glenn Gibbons & Dave Clarke and subsequently forged one of electronic music’s most widely known and well-respected labels. Soma quickly began to develop its own sound with classics such as Slam's timeless ‘Positive Education’ and helped launch the careers of many great artists like Surgeon, Envoy, Funk D’Void, Silicone Soul and Alex Smoke as well as the discovery of French duo Daft Punk who released their first rudimentary, raw outings on the label back in 1994.

These, coupled with many of today's new, up and coming names in the techno genre like Kobosil, VRIL & Jonas Kopp choosing their favourite tracks from the Soma back catalogue to remix sees Soma’s futuristic vision remaining strong with the celebration of 25 years being one of a forward thinking nature rather than one of nostalgia.

Ostgut’s Kobosil brings Slam’s ‘Visions’ into the prevailing drone-ebbed world, the veiled VRIL douses the timeless X Track by Percy X in his dubbed out demeanour and Jonas Kopp’s EBM workout of another Slam classic, ‘Stepback’ creates the standpoint for the project: “Always forward, never back”. Jeff Mills’ provides otherworldly connections with ‘A Tale From The Parallel Universe’, Weatherall delivers future/retro acid and Josh Wink unleashes a 9min epic dance floor burner. Robert Hood provides a straight up, fast paced dance floor workout; all coming together to form the collective consciousness of the Soma attitude.
