The holiday season has descended upon us and Markus Schulz's Coldharbour Recordings presents a special end of year reflection package, comprising of the label's biggest fan favorite compositions of the previous 12 months.

A year in which the label passed the milestone of 250 releases, Markus Schulz's celebrative piece Sestertius opens the pile; and exemplified the qualities of modern day melodic trance. His annual contribution to Transmission in the form of anthem The Lost Oracle also finds a place.

2016 has seen Coldharbour's established talent excel further, with Dutch duo Fisherman & Hawkins bearing the fruits of admired vocal and instrumental work, through Never the Same and Oblivion respectively. Nifra lives up to her queen of trance moniker with the bombastic Rebel, Arkham Knights provide a tech-filled soaring dose with Legacy, and Solid Stone cements his excellent year with album-highlight touch Heart Call.

And there are highlights throughout the 25-track long pack. From the touching Love is Divine by Artisan, to Mike EFEX's dark-layered Blackstone, and new names such as Anske and Novaspace to collaborative pieces from Dan Thompson and Solis & Sean Truby, there is plenty on offer to enjoy.

A long-time favorite of Coldharbour followers, Irishman Danny Cullen has had an impactful twelve-month period on the label under his blissening Artisan moniker. He serves up a treat for us with his first vocal release on Coldharbour, teaming up with Anki for Love is Divine.

Already demonstrating his admired abilities in instrumental form through the likes of Rampage (with Nifra) and Trance Nation- featured Worlds Apart, Artisan's harmonic tendencies provide a welcoming setting for Anki's touching lyrics to shine; a familiar voice in 2016 thanks to work with Ashley Wallbridge and Alex Leavon. Starting with dark layers but eventually unwrapping to an uplifting feel.

With early support from Markus Schulz through his Watch the World tour, Love is Divine will rank highly among the community who like their vocal trance.

What an incredible 2016 it is turning out to be for Fisherman & Hawkins. Following a successful primary foray into vocal trance with the Sir Adrian anthem Never the Same, they follow up in grand fashion with Oblivion.

An instrumental trancer with anthem attributes bursting at the seams; every Markus Schulz follower was intrigued by this particular unknown ID, through his open to close solo set at SaSaZu in Prague and the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas among others. After its recent reveal on Global DJ Broadcast, it has immediately shot to the wishlist of many for the summer season.

Powerful yet in a melancholic nature, Oblivion could well be regarded as one of the most impressive pieces in the Dutch duo's track catalogue. It's sure to be a fixture in their own busy summer schedule, along with plenty of others.

There are many accomplishments within Markus Schulz's career which have cemented his legacy in the electronic world. Legendary DJ sets, a legion of followers to his Global DJ Broadcast radio show, and another he holds dear to his heart - his Coldharbour Recordings label - not only showcasing his own work, but discovering and nurturing talents towards an ascension in the DJ circuit.

 

Coldharbour Recordings is immensely proud to have reached a special milestone - the 250th release - and in continuing the tradition with previous significant label numbers, the Miami native takes responsibility to mark the occasion, with the aptly titled Sestertius - the Latin term for "two and one half".

 

Following the release of his acclaimed songwriting-based Watch the World album, Markus turned his talent to instrumental work, and his ability to yield an unforgettable soul touching melody is paramount again with Sestertius. As Solid Stone proudly became the first artist responsible for a full album on Coldharbour Recordings through the release of Introspection, one track in particular captured the immediate and long-lasting attention of fans worldwide - the dark yet touching Heart Call. 

A familiar collaborative voice on previous Solid Stone compositions, his good friend Jennifer Rene shines through the emotions behind the words, with many citing the piece as a contender for track of 2016. Already receiving extensive support from Markus Schulz, Above & Beyond, Ferry Corsten, Giuseppe Ottaviani and many others, the original will find a proud place on radio and in the clubs. 

The remixes are no less outstanding, with progressive master Jerome Isma-Ae, having a stellar year in his own right, adding a dark, driving and somewhat sinister approach.
