PITCHSHIFTER 'Peel Sessions 1991-93' CD / LP / Ltd LP

We're extremely proud to announce the first ever release of PITCHSHIFTER's legendary BBC sessions for the late, great John Peel. 

These ultra heavy industrial metal tracks were recorded over two sessions at the iconic Maida Vale studios: 28th April 1991 and 30th March 1993 and were sourced directly from the BBC Archives (with thanks), with careful remastering for CD and vinyl.

The 1991 session was recorded during the same period as "Industrial" (Deaf Records / Peaceville), with the 1993 session recorded around the time of "Desensitized" (Earache).

"If you look on your PITCHSHIFTER albums you will see that we always credit John Peel. He was instrumental in getting the band out there and often played our music on the radio when no one else dared. The 'Peel Sessions' we did were a great honour and every time I met John he was always such a great guy... a legend" (JS).

Founded in Nottingham in 1989, PITCHSHIFTER's early style was heavy industrial metal, being cited as one of the originators of the genre along with Godflesh - a style which they termed "Death Industrial". These sessions and albums mark the end of that classic period, before a shift towards the more commercial, beat-driven Industrial style from the mid-90's onward that they are still known for.

Diving into the Berlin underground club scene, the two were captivated by the intense, apocalyptic undertones of the night-time hours, thunderous pulsing of 808s, and steady whirring of the synths. The mix serves as a synesthetic embodiment of Berlin - an ode to a city that comes alive at midnight and echoes unapologetically until the dawn.

Barba hits its 12th edition with one of the coolest records in its catalogue. Having said that, if you have an expectation on how a Barba record should sound - this one might throw you a curveball. Russian producer Information Ghetto (aka Clapan aka Dennis Korsunski) is no stranger to Burek/Barba/Pomalo family and on this 12" he's pulling all the right moves. Both of the originals, "General Trip" and "Unused OrtoDox", are seriously trippy slow-burning 303 affairs executed flawlessly in a sort-of-a breakbeat manner. However, the surprise comes on the flip. "General Trip" got a treatment from non other than Luke Vibert, British electronic music legend responsible for some of the most loved albums of the 90s and later. Track's signature acid line is here, and breakbeat moment is sounding as fresh as back in the day. Add an irresistible 90s reminiscent piano hook and it doesn't take a genius to realise you've got on your hands a monster tune which will send any party into overdrive. Big. All that, pressed onto a heavy duty 180 gram vinyl and beautifully packaged in an original artwork traditionally featuring local artists

A gathering of majestic, heavy, dark ambient, ritual, drone and noise music from Iran. Highly original and monolithic, with stunning production, Visions Of Darkness stands shoulder to shoulder with the giants of the Dark Ambient scene.

In a country where youth culture has been heavily restricted for so long, it’s significant when a cultural form such as this has an opportunity to reach a wider audience – aided by the abstract nature of dark ambient, drone and noise. In comparison, the dance music scene has a harder time taking root in Iran due to the illegality of men and women dancing in public together. However, the growth of the experimental electronic scene is going to be about more than a mere novelty reaction to a political paradigm shift. The darkness here is a consequence of the mood of the artists – darker after the country was put on a black list and more restrictions were applied to many things, including monetary transactions to and from Iran. As a consequence, Iranian artists have a great difficulty getting the resources to better develop their projects. Despite this, the enthusiasm and will for Iranian musicians to promote their music shines through.

Cold Spring are proud to announce "Kondole / Dead Cat" - a double CD and DVD collection, presented in a lavish 8-panel matt digipak with booklet.

DVD: The film 'Dead Cat' was released in 1989, and shown only at a handful of cinemas that year, including once at the infamous Scala Cinema in London. It was never issued on general release and has only recently been uncovered by David Lewis (writer & director). We present the full film, re-authored from the original source. The film itself features unique starring roles from cult film director DEREK JARMAN, ANDREW TIERNAN ('The Pianist', '300', 'The Bunker', Derek Jarman's 'Edward II') and GENESIS P-ORRIDGE (Psychic TV, Throbbing Gristle). The film features the music of Psychic TV, included here on CD1, in its complete form.

CD1: features the complete, long version of 'Dead Cat'.

Eerie drones, oscillations from the ether, distorted dark matter, signals from other dimensions... The music of Sonologyst fluctuates between scientific sonic documentaries and psychedelic abstraction, illuminated by early experimentation of the 50's and 60's, as well as future possibilities of the electronic and electro-acoustic.

"Silencers (The Conspiracy Theory Dossiers)" is inspired by the testimonies of those who have had contact with the so-called "Silencers" or "Men in Black". Federal agents? Aliens? International conspirators?

Sonologyst makes a documentary in music, including spy tech, declassified documents, official recordings, control techs, secreted scientific information, CIA Deep Black Programs, NASA classified tapes, Secret societies and breakaway civilization hypotheses.

MAYUKO HINO 'Lunisolar' CD (CSR245CD)

‘Lunisolar’ is the second solo album from the ‘Queen Of Japanese Noise’, Mayuko Hino. ‘Faintainhead’ unleashes swathes of densely layered noise, undulating in intensity and ferociousness. Although claustrophobic throughout, there are moments of gentle metallic percussion, punctuating the raging vibrations beneath. ‘Astral Travelling’ offers no such relief, featuring unrelenting, piercing electronics throughout until the final few minutes of psychedelic comedown. In addition to self-made instruments, Hino plays noise with her six-theremin oscillators (in bright pink) –  the one and only in the world, specially made by Ryo Araishi (a.k.a. ichion).

Prolific as a live performer, Hino is most well-known for forming C.C.C.C. (Cosmic Coincidence Control Center) in 1990, together with Hiroshi Hasegawa, Fumio Kosakai and Ryuichi Nagakubo. In its early phase, the band grabbed attention by combining noise music with Hino’s sadomasochism performance using bondage ropes and dripping candle wax.  She has since been a member of Mne-Mic, DFH-M3, and Transparentz.
