Birmingham-based DJ and producer, Danny Canaan aka Danny Kane is the master of linking the past to the future, and his debut album ‘We Come In Peace’ on Midnight Riot is destined to be the soundtrack of the summer and beyond. 

With 16 tracks including original compositions, remixes and collabs, it displays Kane’s depth as a highly-skilled studio don and multi-instrumentalist, primarily playing the bass and piano.

A bonafide funk guru, the album is a journey into Danny’s love for all things Funk, Disco and Boogie. The album is packed with shimmering Saturday night synth-fired treats and features some of the most talented artists and songwriters on the scene including Jack Tyson Charles, Jacqui George, Sophie Paul, Princess Freesia & Natasha Kitty Katt with remixes courtesy of JKriv, Qwestlife, Art Of Tones & Yam Who?

With a career spanning more than two decades, Danny Kane’s journey through music has seen him work with some of the biggest names in the industry including Massive Attack’s Sara Nelson, Brit Pop sensations All Saints, Reggae legend Bitty McLean & the uber-talented vocalist Robert Owens while he also co-produced UB40’s hit album ‘Labour of Love 3.’ 

Outside of touring and producing for bands, Danny has remixed huge names like Chaka Khan, Amp Fiddler, Kim English and has collaborated with Groove Armada’s Tom Findlay, Luke Solomon, Honey Dijon plus legendary UK disco boogie band Delegation.

To celebrate the release of ‘We Come In Peace’, Danny will be performing and showcasing his album with a special live PA alongside Sophie Paul Princess Freesia, as part of Midnight Riot’s 10th anniversary tour in London on 1st April at 93 Feet East.

STEPHEN ENCINAS
A long overdue inclusion in the Too Slow to Disco series, “Music in Me” by Stephen Encinas is the first song we’ve featured from a Trinidad artist. Encinas had local hits with “Rock-a-bye baby love” and “Music in me” while still in his early twenties. At the end of the 1970s, “Rock-a-bye baby love” gained lots of airplay and a further single followed, the now legendary “Disco Illusion”. The track gained an enthusiastic reissue when Brandon Hocura of Invisible City Editions found copies of it in a warehouse. Re-releasing a track is always a detective job. So, DJ Supermarkt was able to locate Stephen, and they agreed to finally re-release the super rare track. Of course the masters were long lost, and even Stephen lacked a good quality 7”. Cue a rare story of social media leading to a positive heart-warming outcome: Hamburgs Johnny Fliegenpilz, messaged us that he had a decent copy. Finally this killer track could be transferred from the vinyl to a new master by Marco from Analogcut Studio… What a trip!

The Berlin curator releases a killer 4th edition of the original compilation art form, “Too Slow to Disco”, featuring forgotten and overseen gems from the mid 70s to the early 80s from a global world of smooth, brilliant lost and overproduced tracks from Finland via London and L.A. to Trinidad and beyond.
The great ‘un-vanisher’ of lost lazy classics, DJ Supermarkt once again unearthed some incredible music that labels, publishers (in many cases also those, who actually own the rights to those tracks…) and streaming services have often long overlooked. You’re welcome, world!

Les Inferno applies the special retouch here, and straight away we’re treated to a gloriously produced trip through breakbeat inspired beats, deep, throaty horns and an outrageously soaring sax. After a swathe of fine releases popping up all over the shop on the likes of Slothboogie, Moiss, Tropical Disco and DOBRO records, I Gemin has made quite a name for himself with his signature shuffling beat laden funk and sample laden house music. Being a huge fan of his work for many years Hot Digits Music label boss Fingerman leapt at the chance to host this excellent producer onto his label with a superb 3 track EP of crisp edit/not edit tracks complete with I Gemin’s trademark bottom heavy b-lines and twisted disco samples. Fingerman also steps in for a chunky remix to seal the deal!
