Located on the Tanneron Ridges, the Forêt Du Grand Duc covers 90 hectares and offers beautiful views over the Mediterranean Sea, the Bay of Cannes and the Lérins Islands. 

This recording was made at 6am, about 45 minutes before sunrise. We hear nightingales, robins, blue tits, blackbirds and other common woodland birds.

Early morning by little Rengaskari Reef, less than a mile from our shore. This is an excerpt from an over night recording. Had to do a low cut as there's been some low rumble from an unknown source that has affected all nightly recordings of this spring from the sea side. (and is still audible)

It was a very windy day. Summer breaking point. The hot and dry summer started to get rainy and cold. The strong wind that day was a sign of that change. The grass in the meadow was dense and high, and deep inside, there was a grasshopper. I carefully moved the microphones under the grass near the grasshopper. The grass worked very well as "dead cat" or natural "wind muff" and the wind roared in the nearby trees and meadow. After recording, I sank the camera where I heard the grasshopper to look at the place from the grasshopper's perspective.

This nice, long chamber was further up the beach from the previous chambers. As such, it had a nice long surge and drain without ever staying full.

It was great to hear the bats had returned to our garden this spring.  I think they are Common Pipistrelles - but I'm happy to be corrected.

A pair of MKH8020 mics 30cm spaced AB.  The left one inside a Rycote 'Super Softie' windjammer, the right one 'naked'.  To SoundDevices 702 recorder set at 192kHz, 24 bit recording.

The uploaded track is a mix of the track as recorded mixed with a 'hetrodyne' copy of that track.  The hetrodyne track was high pass filtered at 20kHz to remove all the human audible sound and then passed through the Reaper ReaPitch plugin and pitch-shifted down 3 and a half octaves.  What you hear a mix of the human audible sounds mixed with the 'bat sounds' pitched down by 3 and a half octaves.  Simples!

I notice that the Rycote 'Super Softie' greatly attenuates the bats ultrasonic sounds as the pitched-down mix is much quieter in the left channel than in the right channel - which was recorded with an identical microphone but without any windjammer.

It's all recorded in my back garden - with plenty of passing traffic, birdsong etc.

We are fortunate to have a small pond in the woods near our house.  At times the frogs have a party - this is a field recording of that event.

For this challenge:
Disquiet Junto Project 0462: Vade in Pace
Step 1: Consider the way pace (tempo, speed) is experienced, represented, and accomplished in music.
Step 2: Consider the way stasis is experienced, represented, and accomplished in music.
Step 3: Write a short piece of music that gets slower and slower as it proceeds. If possible, have it end with a sense of outright stasis. Fading out is fine, too, certainly.

This was one of the most inspiring juntos and I’m happier than usual with my track (perhaps because I am sort of unemployed lately and I’m taking my time for this endeavours, more than I usually can)
I had this little melody I wrote last week, it was a slow 30 seconds little thing for classical piano I kept aside to develop someday.
As for the challenge prompt I tried to make it fast and then slow down to the initial slow tempo and beyond, almost to zero (stasis)
But as much as I liked the slowing down I didn’t feel the fast start suited the music so I went for a symmetrical structure slow-accelerando-fast-rallentando-slow-stasis(coda)
I performed two piano parts, an upright bass and a muted piano basses. Added some granulated soundscapes from the different tracks treated thought several plugins and experimented with that to create textures.
The rest is just reverbs and playing around with tempo, something I really cherish.
