New private playlist

For the next installment of Manc institution El Diablo’s Social Club’s ‘To Rack & Ruin’ edits series comes from local Manc lads Out of the Basement who bring us two late summer bombs.
These tracks have both been kicking around for over a year now in slightly different forms but now we bring them to you fully refined and suitably mastered heavily for the dancefloor.

Out of the Basement are Steve Leggat and James Ellis. Both have been involved in Manchester's colourful music scene - amongst other things Steve has been running legendary Beat Club with The Stone Roses Mani and James is the founder of Manchester's now defunct deep house label ‘Drenched’.

Side A is a splendid edit of lost soul classic with beats and instruments added for full effect. Side B is a sleazy slo mo cut up of the Brothers Johnson version of the Shuggie Otis anthem 'Strawberry Letter 23'.

300 ltd handstamped vinyl available from all good record stores late September.

With wonderful remixes by Animal Trainer, KANT, Penner+Muder.

To those of you who are familiar with our Party Series Tony Casanova should ring a bell.
For many years now, he has been a frequent act and we are very pleased to officially
welcome him to our WellDone-Music family.

And just so we do not forget that, his first WellDone! Music release is a big one.
With to incredibly strong Originals, as well as three remixes by Animal Trainer,
KANT and Penner + Muder, which are of at least the same caliber,
anyone should have some fun with this release.

While Tony keeps it a bit more positively "poppy", KANT - who proved himself with his last WellDone! Music release
 that he knows how to craft a Club Banger - raises his game even more with his remix.
Penner + Muder who have been in Exile for quite some time, report back with a more laid back and playful version, 
where as Animal Trainer come through with a more dubby interpretation.

Juno review: It's hard to properly define a category for Goldboy's music, but what we can say is that he makes pretty solid house music with a mystical, delicate edge that sits very nicely alongside the whole nu disco spectrum. Being a Bristolian, he's all about the synths and the wavey pads, elements at the core of "Highway 606", both in its original format, and in the more stripped down version by Ourra. Again, "Cungajam" is a delightful journey through space and time thanks to its hypnotic sequence of melodies, and "We Are Serious" changes the pace by going for a more head-down, funked-out kinda vibe.

Disco is a genre of dance music and a subculture that emerged in the 1970s from the United States’ urban nightlife scene. Its sound is typified by four-on-the-floor beats, syncopated basslines, string sections, horns, electric piano, synthesizers, and electric rhythm guitars.

Well-known disco artists include Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, the Bee Gees, Chic, KC and the Sunshine Band, Thelma Houston, Sister Sledge, The Trammps, the Village People and Michael Jackson. While performers and singers garnered public attention, record producers working behind the scenes played an important role in developing the genre. Films such as Saturday Night Fever (1977) and Thank God It's Friday (1978) contributed to disco's mainstream popularity.

Disco started as a mixture of music from venues popular with African Americans, Hispanic and Latino Americans, Italian Americans, and LGBT people in Philadelphia and New York City during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Disco can be seen as a reaction by the 1960's counterculture to both the dominance of rock music and the stigmatization of dance music at the time. Several dance styles were developed during the period of disco's popularity in the United States, including “the Bump” and “the Hustle”.

By the late 1970s, most major U.S. cities had thriving disco club scenes, and DJs would mix dance records at clubs such as Studio 54 in New York City, a venue popular among celebrities. Discothèque-goers often wore expensive, extravagant and sexy fashions. There was also a thriving drug subculture in the disco scene, particularly for drugs that would enhance the experience of dancing to the loud music and the flashing lights, such as cocaine and Quaaludes, the latter being so common in disco subculture that they were nicknamed "disco biscuits". Disco clubs were also associated with promiscuity as a reflection of the sexual revolution of this era in popular history.

Disco was the last popular music movement driven by the baby boom generation. It declined as a major trend in popular music during the late 1970s. However, it was a key influence in the development of electronic dance music, house music, hip-hop, new wave and post-disco. While no new disco movement has dominated popular music since its decline, the style has had several revivals and the influence of disco remains strong across American and European pop music.

Covid summer

Jayl Funk is without a doubt one of the most well-known producers/DJs of the Nu-Funk and Funky-Breaks scene! Hailing from Nuremberg, Germany he first appeared in the scene back in 2008 and since then he never looked back. He managed to build a really strong profile with killer releases for labels like Timewarp Music, Breakbeat Paradise, Manmade, BIGM Productions, ReSoul, PunchOut, just to name a few.

Jayl Funk's DJ sets are filled with the hottest grooves of the Nu-Funk, Funky Breaks and Nu-Disco era, far away from the typical mainstream sounds. He started DJing in 1996 and his worldwide famous touch started in 2008. He released his first EP “Washed Car” on Bleenchic Records (Germany) and he earned big support from DJs and music producers worldwide. 

Jayl got huge attention and respect for his DJ-friendly Funk edits on Soundcloud. In this context, he managed to open his own digital label HONKEY PHONK. His tunes on the very successful Polish label Trufunk got a massive response from the crowd and he climbed fast to one of the well-known Nu-Funk and Funky Breaks producers worldwide.

In the past 10 Years, Jayl's reputation has been growing strong with numerous releases and remixes for several Artists like Skeewiff, All Good Funk Alliance, Minimatic, BadboE, DFunk, to name a few. His passion for Funk music and his huge passion to play live DJ sets let the grooves flow over your mind, your body and your soul and he always remains true to his style.
