High Tide Recordings co-founders Mongo deliver the labels second release in the form of two rumbling cuts this February.

Collective States is Dan Reid aka Sleeperhold and Gary Bennetton – two of the minds behind High Tide’s event series and newly launched imprint. ‘Carbon Freeze’ marks an exciting production debut for the Southampton based duo, however as DJs the pair have years of experience supporting many of the upper echelons of house and techno including Carl Cox, Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones, Sasha and Dubfire. 
Crashing hats and a sultry low-end form ‘Carbon Freeze’ as energetic stabs and atmospheric synths generate a compelling groove. ‘Santa Carla’ is more intricate in comparison using tight percussion and infectious melodies for a mesmerising aesthetic. Geared for the dancefloor, both productions have picked up early support from the likes of Hot Since 82, James Zabiela, Cristoph and Alan Fitzpatrick.

Collective States (Formerly Mongo) - Electric Sheep - Played On John Digweed's Transitions Show

As you may or may not know, Collective States (formerly Mongo) are very avid sci-fi fans (so much so it drives us f#*king mad to be honest)! So it’s our great pleasure (or pain depending on which side of the fence you sit on) to attach a cheeky nod to the forthcoming Blade Runner sequel. Taking influence from the 1982 original soundtrack, this track has been pricking up the ears of some of the early recipients including John Digweed (who has featured it on his Transitions show several times recently), Sasha, Kolsch and big High Tide Recordings label supporter, James Zabiela.  

It’s been a great summer for Collective States with both their “Krypton and “Planet Mongo” releases charting highly in Beatport whilst picking up support across the spectrum of dance music from the likes of Carl Cox, Hot Since 82, Joris Voorn, Deadmau5, Jamie Jones, Dubfire, Eats Everything, Sasha, John Digweed, Alan Fitzpatrick, Kaiserdisco and James Zabiela to name but a few.  So sit back, crank up your sound system and enjoy this on us while you can……

Collective States -  The Battle For Planet Mongo

The High Tide label is back with a new EP from Collective States. Featuring two killer cuts and a fine remix from UK techno champ Alan Fitzpatrick, it is the fourth release from the label and is sure to cause a storm.

Planet Mongo is the first original and it is a spritely techno track with nice airy hi hats. A nice chord sequence slowly steps down the scales and brings a subtle sense of joy as sweeping synths all round add to the drama. It has already been getting great support play from Carl Cox,Eats Everything and James Zabiela amongst others, and is sure to be a massive summer track! 

The remix from the Drumcode man and modern techno heavyweight Alan Fitzpatrick is a slow burner that builds up a fine head of steam. The drums are rock solid, there is tension and menace in the grooves and some female vocals really add an element of fire. John Digweed has been heavily supporting this mix.

Otherside is the other original and is a gurgling deep techno track with supple and subtle synth lines wriggling away over tech drums. It is a heads down number filled with style and closes out a top EP.

This is not the first time Collective States (formerly Mongo) has been on the label after Otherside back in summer, and once again it’s an essential affair.

Spacewalker goes first and is a deep and supple number with airy hi hats. The groove is well rooted and a frazzled synth line adds drama. It’s one that will take dancers to the edges of the galaxy and do so in style with a great sense of atmosphere. The remix from Athea is a darker affair with wiggling synth stabs and long-tailed chords that add suspense and intrigue throughout.

Last of all, Bend the Knee is a more melodic track with well craft synths rippling over the uninterrupted drums. Some mysterious vocals add to the spaceyness of it all and the twinkling keys are a nice touch to add some colour. As such, this is a varied three tracker that is truly cinematic.

Collective States - Hive Garden Party - Recorded Live - 29/08/20

Collective States (individually known to those in the know as Dan Reid & Gary Bennetton) are Southampton based melodic techno producers and label managers. 

After their debut single “Krypton” went top 20 on Beatport in early 2017, Collective States began a residency at UK club “Switch,” and had within a few short months, supported the likes of Carl Cox, Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones, Sasha, John Digweed, Joris Voorn, Hot Since 82, Annie Mac, Kolsch and Pete Tong. 
By their second release, Collective States immersive sound had started to turn heads, with “Planet Mongo” being picked up by Carl Cox & Monki for BBC Radio 1, as well as being supported widely by the likes of John Digweed, Groove Armada, Hot Since 82, James Zabiela, Eats Everything and Alan Fitzpatrick. 

With a hard drive full of unreleased material, Collective States have already penned tracks for future release on Hot Since 82’s & Alan Fitzpatrick’s label in 2018. As a popular golden figure once said “the possibility of successfully navigating an asteroid field is approximately 3,720 to 1” but the journey is just beginning for the duo from the South Coast.
