Luminaries

Hypatia is the second single off MONOMONO/IIIOIIOIIIOIIO’s upcoming album ‘Daughter of Data’. The name and pulse on the track is inspired by the 3rd century philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician Hypatia of Alexandria. Known as a symbol of knowledge and independent thought, Hypatia was a figure whose presence challenged power.

Hypatia's name, deconstructed, becomes the very foundation of the track: fragmented syllables morph into rhythm and melody, forming a structure that feels both ancient and algorithmic. Her erasure feels eerily familiar in an age of digital overload and selective memory.

With this track, MONOMONO doesn’t just reference Hypatia - they use her as a carrier wave. Hypatia is a sonic inscription, driven by pulse and repetition, echoing her role as a gatekeeper of knowledge, a system disrupted too soon.

Hypatia

 String Theory is the third single from MONOMONO/IIIOIIOIIIOIIO’s upcoming album Daughter of Data.

Opening with lush synths and strings, String Theory feels like wandering through the dreamlike logic of a video game.  Layered harmonies of acoustic string instruments — violin, ancient Greek lyre, and harp — create a rich, organic foundation with emotional depth.                A push and pull between screechy strings and very delicate bow movements results in an inescapable melodic groove that pumps up the heartbeat of the listener throughout the track, eliciting a bodily reaction to an overwhelming universe.

Don't Bring Me Down

This track is inspired by our recent travels in Asia. Its played with a Lyra and Japanese Bass Bamboo flute with in the key of C in a hybrid scale of Kokin, Akebono and C Dorian with Kluwak and Kerwani seeds for the watery effect. This scale creates an Asian feel while evoking a yearning that is resolved with the major notes and the watery effect.
