The illustrious Abu Ama lets loose on Accidental Meetings with a 9 track LP, manifesting his trademark distorted dubwise style, with traditional folk song throughout.

Following wzrdyAV's sublime 'Midnight Visions' we're so, so excited to welcome Abu to the label for AM002. An unbelievable artist and person, we're honoured to have him on AM.
Abu who lives in West Germany showcases his whole repertoire throughout the 9 tracks with a selection of new and old, past and present.

His field recordings are scattered over the album and his rumbling bass is ever present, traditional folk songs dip in and out of the album all brought together in Abu's signature dub-wise style.

The taste of fall is a meditation on decay, a palpable reminder of the patterns of nature and the eternal march of time. Our next guest, LAG, has interpreted this perfectly in his UNRUSH contribution. His selections are mindful of our current collective experience, with a range of electronic and acoustic music that takes us through a series of sonic scenes, eventually heaving us out of our melancholy to see the infinite elegance of the everyday. Typically known for his releases on harder techno imprints such as Mord and THEM, here he portrays a different musical disposition that showcases his diverse influences and output as an artist. We couldn't be more pleased with the result.

Earthen Sea is the experimental ambient/techno solo project of Jacob Long.  He began releasing Earthen Sea material during the early 2000s. Released on limited-edition cassettes and CD-Rs, some of his earliest material utilized violin, tape decks, and keyboards to create eerie soundscapes.
In 2014, taking a more beat oriented approach, the "Mirage" EP was released on the Lovers Rock imprint.  This release was followed by the project's first full-length "Ink"which appeared on Lovers Rock in 2015. A digital EP titled "The Sun Will Rise" was released by Nicolas Jaar's Other People in 2016. Following a move to Brooklyn, Long released "An Act of Love," his debut on Kranky, in 2017. Two years later, the same label released his third album, "Grass and Trees," which presented a stripped-down, skeletonized version of dub techno.  The soon to be released album "Ghost Poems" will be his third release for Kranky.

This week's project is one of my all-time favorites.  Given over 100 short audio files containing vocalizations of various vowels, syllables, and occasional other things, from dozens of different voices, we were given the task to weave these into a composition.

With the exception of some transposition towards the end of the piece, I chose not to modify the character original material in any way.  What I did do was write a set of scripts which chose randomly from those files and figured out how to generate randomly-varying loops within the files in order to allow any one of them (I did have to skip anything shorter than one second) to be extended to an arbitrary length.  Then from that script, I built big, chordal sections where all the voices begin as the same moment (up to 42 parts at one point!), and other sections where the parts overlap and weave in and out over time.

The increasing transposition (up and down) of the sounds gradually distorts them in some disturbing ways.  Pretty early on, I thought of this as a vocal requiem, and structured it to reflect the austere, ceremonial nature of such a work.

All sounds were processed, mixed, and virtually placed in a 3-d sound environment using the RTcmix software toolkit.

This all came about as a result of something Alan Bland mentioned on the Junto Slack. He pointed out that my having misspelled Disquiet as “Disquier” in the December 19, 2019, project title made him think of “Dischoir,” a possible Junto project. Thanks to Alan and to Jason Wehmhoener for helping me think this project through, and to everyone (over 50 contributors) who sent in samples.
