The Carpenters are the Favourite band of all my celebrities.

Their songs have been a part of my childhood, my teenage years and even
now. Especially Karen's voice.
She had a fairly deep, medium-range voice, warm and colorful,
with an exceptional tone.
She was not only a singer, but also a very talented drummer.
Her brother Richard also has an extraordinary voice and does a lot of
backing vocals.

Their two voices alone amply cover the harmony of their tracks.
They're Unique.

I love this song; it's well-paced, as well as the bass and especially the drums.
For me, this song is very hard to sing, 
because the key starts off very low and rises quite high,
and the tempo also increases.

Honestly, I struggled to keep up with the rhythm in both choruses.
As I was saying, my voice isn't what it was 20-30 years ago. 🙂

This song began its life in Poland, where our resident surf rock specialist, Artur, composed it on his giutar. He is a brilliant composer and expert player, so we're always glad to receive music from him. 
  Artur gave it to JJ to start the project, so JJ was first to the trough here, adding his breathy, moving organ throughout, as well as some slick envelope synth. Ken came along shorly after to give the song its heartbeat, adding his triumphant drums. As soon as he had a beat to play to, Josh added his four string fretless bass to the mix, completing the rhythm section. 
  Now it was the other guitarists turn to take a whack at it. Tez was first up, adding the magical the first and third solos, in the verse sections. He also lit up the intro and outro sections with some dynamic guitar solos, as well. Stephen went last, filling in the second and fourth solo sections in the choruses, as well as a textural guitar that you hear throught most of the song. He also added the exotic sitar you hear in about the middle. After all the music was laid down, Artur had the idea to add the vocal chorus towards the end, which Josh and JJ sung in four part harmony.
 Once we had it in the bag, we asked Stephen to produce it for us, which he did in his always trained, professional manner. 
  This is the eighth song we've done with Artur over the past about year and a half. We adore his music and him as a person, too. If you dig this song, you should hop over to his page and have a listen in case you're not already familiar. He loves surf music, and wanted to note the passing of surf rock legend, Brian Wilson this week. Wilson was more than just Pet Sounds, although that album is top class. He was a surf rock pioneer, who influenced a whole genre of music; a genre that's near and dear to Artur's heart. 
  We hope you enjoy listening to this song as much as we enjoyed creating it.

A little song called Glow I wrote around 2018 timeframe. It's one of those that came together over time, especially the chorus, it was one of those back burner unfinished songs, but certainly never forgotten. I've always enjoyed playing this melody.  I made a few minor changes not long ago, with the arrangement and a few lyrics, and it really feels complete...finally. Ever meet someone where they put something in you that you feel like you can do anything?  I hope you enjoy this live take I did the other night on my old Baldwin. Well hello… A new song, with a new instrument. A pawnshop Ukulele. Ha. What a fun instrument to play. Just had to. A few simple Uke chords, some acoustic guitar soloing, and a tale of sailing the ocean as a metaphor for life. And yes, lyrically I was talking with a seagull. And just so you know I have gotten really good at ‘talking’ with birds. I can click talk like a grackle, whisper whistle like a robin, whistle talk a curious melody like a chickadee, among others. Still working on my duck call. Ha… Years ago, I remember annoying some people at a party with this wooden duck call my buddy had. So maybe a future song about birds? And right outside my door there are some interesting avian dynamics between the grackles and robins nesting in the spruce trees. They argue every day, about territory and invasion of their personal space, but when danger appears, like a hawk or cat, they come together in unison to fend off the threat. In the natural biology of things, humans haven’t fallen too far from that spruce tree. Anyway, robins do not like the dark. They anxiously chatter with loud worry chirping amongst themselves at dusk, and create a chorus melody of happy song at dawn. With me being a late sleeper, their morning serenades can be quite bothersome at 4:30AM. A lesson for me though, as at times I am not so welcoming as I wakeup to another frenetic global morning. Anyway, birds and their enthusiastic singing far outpaces my own. Ha. There are many other birds here, but I will save that for another time. Hope you are well. Thanks for dropping by, Mark

ANARS ! Pourquoi

This is actually the third version of the song. I felt the original idea I’d roughed out with the keyboard and computer could be more interesting. So I reworked the whole track again (twice) adding several ‘hooks’. These were some vocal ‘stabs’, some keyboard/synth riffs as well as writing ( what I hope ) is a more interesting bass line. I beefed up the drum section too. I hope the fun I had creating it is reflected in the overall vibe of the track. Having said all this, the question is: did it actually work? 


Get Up

I had the very good fortune to connect with Andy H aka “Noobly” a few months ago over music that we mutually admired and we agreed to find a future opportunity to collaborate. This is the result. Noobly’s beautifully rich track, propelled by his soaring guitar work, felt like a kind of call to prayer to my ear. I tried to echo this somewhat in singing the bridge. Lyrically, just for kicks I used the Socratic Method to construct the verses (persuasion through Q&A) so that this song’s meaning becomes self-evident and hopefully more of a personal experience for each listener. Thanks for checking it out!

This track inspired by a Hike with friends of time to the the summit of Rondetslottet in Rondane Nationalpark in Norway. It was October 2022 and we were surprised by snowfall. No losses on the way up and down fortunately. Why post a winter song in the summer? Don't ask me, I am nuts... ;-)

Hey! Thanks for stopping by!:) All recordings done on my old Baldwin piano that my amazingly talented grandma gave me. I'd like to think it holds some magic. All original songs, recorded live. I took a few years of classical lessons when I was very young. Fond memories bicycling down E. Brown street to my lessons. Dearest Faye...sweetest teacher ever. 

Throughout the years I'd always tinker on my Mom's old 1900 Ludwig piano through passing, playing songs I had learned, like Fur Elise and The Spinning Song, but it wasn't till I was in college when I fell in love with those keys. There was an old upright in the student center that I'd sneak off to late at night, and ever since then the playing has never stopped, and it never will. I never knew I could even make up melodies, let alone write a song. What a therapy it has been over the years, expressing myself through experiences, and feelings of the hopeless romantic in me. God is good! I'm so thankful. I hope to connect with many and make new friends. Hope you enjoy the songs!:)
