note: I recently found this old journal and this riff was played live on my phone upon my front porch during a rain storm this evening. This particular entry was from June 18, 2014.

I was stagnant at work this evening and ventured outside to catch some air and to stretch my legs. The air was thick and stuck to my skin, leaving a glassy resemblance, caught by mine eye, while vainly glimpsing at my reflection in the moonlit window of a fellow employee's sedan. With literally hours until my next deadline, I opted to put some kilometers behind me, and make my way, by foot, towards the local University. 
While venturing through the streets inhibited by, both, students, and families, I found myself drawn to a well kempt bungalow, lit dimly by lamplight, with the sound of classical piano fluttering imperfectly through the screened windows, out into the quiet, darkened street.
Stopping dead in my tracks, I stood, admiringly, for what seemed like several moments, staring dumbfoundedly at the house, only picturing, within my head, the scenes that may be taking place within.
Something about the modesty of practiced, yet, un-perfected art struck me as beautiful and elegant. Perhaps it is because it is something I, myself, can relate to in my endeavors, whether it be sport, music, painting, writing, or anything else I've indulged in within my life.
Nonetheless, something about this moment inspired something within me, and, as I pulled myself away from the scene and continued my evening walk, my inner dialogue began dancing frivolously in my brain. So often these thoughts want to be blurted out by voice, finger picked on guitar, or bled out of a pen, but my anxiety, and utter refusal to let loose my inner creativity, my personal experiences, my soul, has previously crushed my desire to even remotely achieve some sort of self-satisfaction. 
Although words have been written, melodies have been played, and songs have been sung, from now on, there will be no filter. Journals will be kept, rather than torn out and thrown away, edited or deleted. Keep Everything. Every thought. Though, initially, they seem irrelevant, irrational, erratic...anything...they still are the soil from which an idea may grow from, flourish, even. So, even now as I carry on aimlessly, rambling, carrying on...I must say thank you to the pianist for airing my embers with their beautifully imperfect notes.

This song began its life as a skeleton of beats and synth created by Terry, who also added some crunchy electric guitar hits to it, too. Terry is a very skilled electronic music producer, and frequent collaborator with Stephen for a project they call Texas Tea. It's worth going to check out their other collabs, as well as Terry's solo projects on his and Stephen's page. 
  Even though Terry and Stephen work together frequently, Terry approached Josh with a couple of ideas, and Josh picked this one, so Terry started the project and invited the rest of the band to join in.
 
Stephen was the lead off hitter for this one, though, adding his magical and heavily processed acoustic guitar to the bridge in the middle, as well as textural guitar in the entire first half. He also added a couple of cool lines with his e-bow, which he used on his guitar. Ken was next up to bat, adding his always thrilling drums to compliment Terry's beats. Josh went to work next, now that he had a solid beat to work with, added his low-frequency five string fretless bass to it. Tez batted clean up, adding his thrillling Gilmore-esque guitar solo to the end of it. 

  Then, once the music was all finished, we turned it over to Chris so he could add his amazing, psychedelic vocals delivering his original lyrics throughout.
  Once we had everything recorded, we turned it over to Terry to mix, as it was his song to begin with. Terry is an excellent producer with a great ear. Stephen, who is our trained mixer gave him some key advice along the way, too, though.
  This is Eclectic Collective's third song with Terry, and we're always thrilled when he has something to offer us. He's a wonderful collaborator with tons of great songs on his page, that are all worth checking out. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.
  Oh, and it's worth mentioning that three of us on this have birthdays this week, too. Chris' was first, on Wednesday, Terry's was Thursday, and Josh's is Friday (today). So, this is an extra special celebratory song for all three of us. We're all so very grateful for our SoundCloud community, friends, and musical family. We appreciate all of you!

Koala Tea

Lately I've been working on a piano version to this song, I love it on guitar but had to give it the feelings from those eighty eight keys. It's similar to the other version but has some different flares and melody from the keys, which I liked. Also, I sang it a bit different too, it's just what the keys do.  I did this live recording way late last night close to 3am. I thank a beauty that wishes to remain unknown, for the really incredible heartfelt lyrics.  Gave it my all, and gave it the best melody I could, cause where the lyrics came from just means the world to me...Her sweet heart, and this song will forever be incredibly special to me. Thanks to all who listens!:)

My Escape (Original Song Live - Piano Version)

Hey! I'm colter. I'm happy you're here! All recordings done on my old Baldwin piano that my amazingly talented grandmother gave me.  I'd like to think it holds some magic. All original songs, recorded live, using a the condenser mics from my Tascam Portacapture X8 behind my piano, and running my Rode NT1 into it for vocals. I took a few years of classical lessons when I was very young. Fond memories bicycling down E. Brown street to my lessons. Dearest Faye...sweetest teacher ever. She had the best snacks! Eventually I'd just end up watcing her hands play the piece and I'd mimic, at recitals I'd have the music up but never looked at it cause I memorized it.  

Throughout the years I'd always tinker on my Mom's old 1900 Ludwig piano through passing, playing songs I had learned, like Fur Elise and The Spinning Song, but it wasn't till I was in college when I fell in love with those keys. There was an old upright in the student center that I'd sneak off to late at night, and ever since then the playing has never stopped, and I never will. I never knew I could make up melodies, but they just kept coming, then the lyrics poured. What a therapy it has been over the years, expressing myself through experiences, and feelings of the hopeless romantic in me. God is good! I'm so thankful. I hope to connect with many and make new friends. Hope you enjoy the songs!:) 

No Ai whatsoever, just my voice and piano, playing and singing simutaneously. Also all my piano music is all memorized. I look at my lyrics and my fingers know what to do.  Fingers don't forget.
