"I Just Can't Live Without You" (Instrumental)

First of all, I would like to wish a happy springtime to all of my fantastic friends here on SoundCloud!  

Without further ado, here is the full instrumental version of a short demo song I made on September 5, 2024. Originally this tune came to me when thinking about the chords and progressions in my earlier song "Peace".

This song was made, played and recorded by me as MIDI and with e.g. the following instruments and sounds: Yamaha Montage 8 (TX816 Electric Piano), Spectrasonics Keyscape (Roland MKS-20 EP sound), Arturia Jup-8 V (Horns), Arturia Synthx V, UVI Ultramini & Arturia Mini-V (Minimoog bass sound), Arturia JUN-6V (the "55 Pop Corn" sound, cf. Juno-6 Synthesizer), Native Instruments Session Guitarist - Electric Mint; and other sounds from the UVI SonicPass VST library including UVI PX Memories (cf. Memorymoog mod), UV-XXX (from the UVI "OB Legacy", horns & the brass sound), UVX-10P (cf. Roland JX-10, the flute sound) and Marcato Strings (from UVI Emulation II). The drums come from Native Instruments Abbey Roads 1980s Drummer, layered with the fantastic Simmons SDS 5 style kick & snare drums from UVI Beatbox Anthology 2.  

Recorded, edited and mixed in Cubase Pro 14, with some significant help from iZotope Neutron. Mastered in Cubase Pro with Ozone 11.

This song is a personal one about the companionship I feel with my friends when I play music with them. Using the phoenix theme of death and rebirth in the fire. The inspirations for this song include the progressive songwriting of Yes, and the lyrical playing of Mei Semones. I guess you could say I'm blending an old style with a new one. I have been enjoying writing shorter songs recently. Something about the attention span of everyone these days demands quick playback. Hope you enjoy!

I had a thought many years ago about life being like a hurricane, just a never ending cycle. It crossed my mind again the other day, and after a little while behind the 88, this thing poured out. Its all about the right timing. I started writing this May 8th, a few lines in the evening, then after an unexpected late night the rest followed. This song explains a lot over the years. She'll always be my queen. I hope you enjoy this live recording I did late last night on the old trusty Baldwin. Sometimes all it takes is three little chords. This song began a few months ago as an idea Ken had to make the quintessential Gen X song. He structured the chords, beat to appeal to anyone of a certain age group, of which most of the folks in the band are a part. He even played wrote it on his acoustic guitar and came up with the vocal melody, which Gaz put a shine on for the final version. Once he had the form of the song down, he tapped the incredibly talented Joseph Shenton to write the lyrics. Gaz not only superbly sung four part harmonies for this, but the came up with the lyrics for the break parts, too. 
  When he first envisioned it, Ken thought it would be fun to invite as many musicians as we could onto it. However, for whatever reason, it stalled out and sat untouched for a couple months, with just Stephen's foundational guitar, Scotty's thrilling guitar intro, Terry's lush, low end synth, and Josh's bass to hold it down. Then, Ken had the great idea to invite Gaz to sing it for us. His awesome vocal track inspired us to heat up the kiln again, and put some real effort into bringing it to life. On that note, Josh redid his bass part to match Ken's rocking drums, as well as added the high, melodic synth you hear throughout. Tez came in last with the fiery guitar fills and solo, which you can hear throughout, as well. 
  Once it was all in the bag, we tapped Stephen to produce and mix it, which he did in his always pro manner. 
  This is the first collab Eclectic Collective has done with Gaz, but we all hope it won't be the last. He is one of the finest singers on the Cloud, and we're honored that he would sprinkle his magic on this song with us. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.

Well hello. Here’s some rustic Mountain Blues, played on extremely oxidized guitar strings, with me hollering from the mountain top. Hahahaha. The song hints at a personal authenticity, and the experience of possibly unraveling any prior conditioning (Pavlovian or otherwise) that may constrict our lives in some way. It’s also about the different personas we portray to the outside world. How we may act at work, or on a first date, or with our spouse, or kids, friends, enemies, those who hurt us, even our stage personas comes into play…. So this song is asking a lot of us. In other news, right now in June, the mountains are snow covered and it froze last night. That is late spring, early summer here. Gardenwise, this year, I am planting a lot more Brassicas: Kale, Cabbage and Broccoli, and they are growing well. I am going to try to fence off the carrot/beet beds, as the voles always eat more carrots and beets than I ever do. Onions, leeks and garlic have been growing since March. I transplanted 50 lettuce plants I grew from seed that I saved from last year’s lettuce. The berry bushes and fruit trees have really blossomed this year. There are squash, cukes, tomato and pepper plants inside by the window, to be transplanted outside next week, quite a mess… all of which keeps me busy…. Hahaha. Hey! I'm colter. Thanks for stopping by!:) All recordings done on my old Baldwin piano that my amazingly talented grandma gave me. I'd like to think it holds some magic. All original songs, recorded live. I took a few years of classical lessons when I was very young. Fond memories bicycling down E. Brown street to my lessons. Dearest Faye...sweetest teacher ever. 

Throughout the years I'd always tinker on my Mom's old 1900 Ludwig piano through passing, playing songs I had learned, like Fur Elise and The Spinning Song, but it wasn't till I was in college when I fell in love with those keys. There was an old upright in the student center that I'd sneak off to late at night, and ever since then the playing has never stopped, and it never will. I never knew I could even make up melodies, let alone write a song. What a therapy it has been over the years, expressing myself through experiences, and feelings of the hopeless romantic in me. God is good! I'm so thankful. I hope to connect with many and make new friends. Hope you enjoy the songs!:)
