This is a demo of a song I co-wrote with Clint Lowery of Sevendust back in February 2014. Until now I have kept it private and unreleased.  However, in light of Chester Bennington's tragic suicide, I feel compelled to share this for the first time.

This song describes the inner war we wage with ourselves.  We all face dark times and are pulled down by something.  Sometimes we become so depressed and feel so defeated that we are rendered helpless in our own minds.  It is easy to let an overwhelming sense of despair become a suffocating blanket we feel we can never escape. However, we ALWAYS have the choice to fight.  Whether we feel strong enough to do it or not, we always have the choice.

For me personally, this song was about recognizing that I was in a dark place and had destructive behaviors, and that I needed to decide how I wanted to live my life from that moment forward.  I wanted to be a fighter, and I was willing to face my demons head on and go to war and thus partake in the "firefight" for which this song was named.

One day I plan on polishing this up, laying down official vocal tracks and getting a great mix out of it to officially release it.  For now though, I felt it was more important to share the message in hopes of reaching somebody that may need to hear those words, and to know that they have a fighting chance.
