Trying Times for the Indirect

I tried a lot of new things during the production of In Motion 2 and when you try new things, there’s always the risk that your reach may exceed your grasp. I took a lot of risks during the mixing process. Some of which worked and some didn’t. But ultimately, that’s how we learn. By f**king up and trying again.

Which is exactly what I’ve been doing ever since; trying again.

Weighing up the pros and cons, appreciating the victories and learning from the mistakes. I had a lot of fun working on this one. It gave me a lift and reminded me why I started writing music all those years ago. Forget the promo, the perception, the labels, the numbers, the digits, the scheduling, the politics, the self doubt, the he said, she said. Focusing on potential backlash before a project even drops. 

I wrote a track, I made some terrible homemade cover art to go with it and I couldn't be happier! ✌️❤️

Verdict

Club-ready and razor-edged. The concept lands: Berlin-leaning warehouse grit, classic 909 punch, and a “speaking” 303 that actually says something. The metric slips are the hook—they create tension without derailing the floor. This is a DJ tool with personality.

What’s Working

Acid narrative: The TB-303 evolves—filters and accents feel intentional, not random.

Low-end architecture: Reese + SH-101 combo gives movement without mud when sidechained right.

Arrangement logic: Intro→slip→groove→fake drop→double slip→big return is smart and mix-friendly.

Sound design glue: Machine hum, vinyl hiss, and metallic hits sell the industrial space.

DJ Notes

Keys: Gm→Cm→Gm makes harmonic mixing trivial (relative/key pivot).

Energy slots: Works perfectly as a set’s “gear change” record—use the double slip to reset dancer attention, then slam the Gm drop.

Remake of a synthesizer track I created in year 2000 (Korg M1, Mini Moog, Roland JXP, Roland DX7), no more of interest in this times :-)...so I started to refurbish it a bit...here's result.

"Nzuku” emphasizes the feeling that something distinct has begun. Its strong atmosphere has the scent of narrative. Rotating on a hypnotic marimba pattern and an octave-driven bass reminiscent of Charlie Haden, it’s a loose-limbed meeting of sounds and approaches. It’s the sound of an ensemble working together in harmony, opening doors for one another. It makes you want to open a window and let in the fresh air. A sunbaked workout that suggests a 6/4 cycle, it’s a wild blend of dusted atmospherics, a low-slung hammock in a cosmic jazz disco style.
