PAPA - I Am The Lion King (St. Lucia Remix)

Hailing from America’s center, Omaha-based Icky Blossoms formed in the blizzard of 2011 through friendship, trials and a mutual desire to make art and new music. Guitarist and vocalist Derek Pressnall (Tilly and the Wall) met Icky Blossoms vocalist Sarah Bohling and lead guitarist Nik Fackler in the vibrant Omaha art scene and invited them to play in his band Flowers Forever. Enchanted by endless nights in clubs and inspired with a desire to program dance music with instantaneous grooves and depth, they formed a band not only wholly unexpected, but greater than the sum of its parts.

Icky Blossoms combine bass-heavy electronic grooves, pop structure, and a rock & roll swagger to pioneer a sound on the audio vanguard: music that is simultaneously avant garde, catchy and danceable. By brazenly denying to be subservient to a single genre or medium, Icky Blossoms is set to garner the attention of a truly diverse audience and make a lasting impact on music to come.

The self-titled debut album, produced by Dave Sitek from TV On The Radio, features the hypnotic synths of "Heat Lightning," "Babes," which was lauded by Rolling Stone as a "girl-power dance anthem," and the experimental, aptly titled album closer "Perfect Vision."

One of the fastest rising underground stars of our generation, disco-house sensation Miguel Campbell makes a momentous come back on the Hot Creations imprint with two original tracks from his highly anticipated album with impressive remixes from Shadow Child and MAM.

Now one of the most sought after DJs and producers in the industry, it was Jamie

Jones and Lee Foss who first spotted the Leeds based Miguel Campbell and snapped him up with ‘Baby I Got It,’ which was released on the label in 2011. The release featured the astronomic ‘Something Special’, which became the biggest selling track on Beatport that year, now clocking over 4 million views on Youtube! Since then, Miguel has won a DJ Mag Best of British Award and has been releasing and remixing on other labels such as Wolf + Lamb and Outcross.

First up for this release, title track ‘Rockin’ Beats’ featuring Naroe on vocals is a funk fuelled odyssey , filled with spacey electronic madness and showcasing Campbell’s dexterous use of vocals adding extra dimensions as the vocoder Daft Punk style rapping rolls through the zappy synths and warm beats. Dirtybird favourite Shadow Dancer makes his first appearance on the imprint with his remix of ‘Rockin’ Beats’– bass-led and groovy with shuffling percussions, the track soon progresses into a perfect dose of nu-school house on a garage tip. The melodic keys and bouncing percussions are highly intoxicating and prove why the skillful producer has become a favourite amongst heavyweights including Eats Everything and Claude Von Stroke.

On the flip ‘Not That Kind Of Girl’ featuring Becks Lott on vocals, is reminiscent of the monumental ‘Something Special’, with a warm feminine touch, oozing with heaps of funk and groove and boasting crossover pop appeal. For the remix, Miguel teams up with Matt Hughes under their MAM moniker, taking it deeper and utilizing the grumbling undertones, with less focus on the vocal and more on the music.

If these are anything to go by Miguel’s forthcoming album ‘Back In Flight School’ is going to be a something to relish!!
