Foremost international techno outlet Drumcode is delighted to announce the release of its next full-length album, ‘Satellite’, by enduring Italian techno talent Sam Paganini.

Though he has been active since the mid nineties, recent years have been hugely successful for Sam, with searing techno EPs coming on revered labels such as Riche Hawtin’s Plus8, Sven Vath’s Cocoon and of course, Adam Beyer’s Drumcode. In his time he has been responsible for underground hits like ‘Zoe’, ‘Polyester’ and ‘Fire In My Arms’, all of which demonstrate his dynamic understanding of sexy, dark and hypnotic techno grooves and at the same time have earned him plenty of great Beatport chart positions as well as respect from the best in the game.

Incredibly, ‘Satellite’ is Sam’s first full-length album. Informed by his DJ gigs at legendary places like Berghain in Berlin and Cielo in New York, the album starts with a dystopian bit of sonic scene setting, as if a space ship is charging up ready to take off.

From there it’s a case of getting straight down to business. ‘Another Chance’ is a spacey bit of cantering techno and ‘White’ is rooted in devastating kick drums and is riddled with serrated synth lines that build lots of great techno pressure. ‘Down’ is an undulating bit of funky techno complete with choice vocal flourishes and tracks like ‘Lotus’ are prime offerings from the deeper end of the scale.

No two tracks sound the same on Satellite: Sam is always teasing out a new bit of texture, nailing a slightly different vibe or exploring different amounts of light and dark throughout the course of this most excellent album. This is evidenced by diverse cuts like ‘Dusty’, ‘Toxic’ and ‘Rave’.

Despite ‘Satellite’ being Sam’s debut album, it showcases his seductive style in all its glory across 12 fantastic tracks that will leave you begging for more.

Following straight on from Alphahouse41, Butane doubles up on his Alphahouse imprint to deliver yet another pair of intricately programmed cuts.

2016 is proving to be a massively productive year in the studio after his move from New York to San Francisco last year. With this string of new releases, Rasse has truly demonstrated his vast aptitude as both an accomplished artist, but also in identifying emerging talent for his flourishing Alphahouse and Little Helpers imprints. Having touched down recently on Moan Recordings alongside his own labels already this year, and with music on the way on Jamie Jones’ Hottrax, Dubfire's SCI-TEC and the Fact Barcelona crew's Yakazi, the renowned producer is quite simply on a roll as we move steadily towards the New Year. Up next is an EP on his Alphahouse imprint, ‘Imperfections’; another two-track release brimming with quality.

The opening cut ‘Hey’ takes on a familiar aesthetic for which Rasse has become well known; employing a series of shuffling hi-hats, rich synth stabs and grooving drums which lock the listener into dancefloor hypnosis. Delicate instrumentation ensures that a certain suspense effortlessly unfolds despite its deceptively minimal makeup. "The simplest tracks are often the hardest ones to get right" he says. And here, get it right he does.

On the flip, title track ‘Imperfections’ raises the tempo and combines rolling, organic percussion patterns, tightly programmed rhythms, a distorted, manipulated synth and rumbling sub tones to produce an infectious, heady groove that drives the production through its impressive eight and a half minute duration.

After his massive tune ‘Blind Spot’ in 2016 on our SUM VA, it was only a matter of time before Glasgow’s young, rising star Frazier reappeared on Second State and this time he’s here with three mental warehouse weapons on his debut 'Modafinil' EP. Heaving low end, massive kick drums and hypnotic vocal commands appear on all three cuts yet each embrace a different intention. ‘Modafinil’ is an almost straight up old school rave homage with searing acid lines, whereas ‘Fabrication’ takes a subtle step into deeper spaces with eery pads and ‘Observation’ into headier territory where sonic blasts meet strobe lights. As if that wasn’t enough, DEAS returns after his hot new ‘Velocity’ EP and reworks ‘Modafinil’ into a psychedelic, late-night undertaking that is sure to cause a frenzy every single time.
