Soma welcome back London based producer & label owner John Barber for another 3-track slab of finely crafted Deep House in the follow up to his debut release on Soma last year. John shows off slick production skills and a fine modern take on the Deep House genre on the Fractal EP.

Title track ‘Fractal’ starts off on an almost Detroit tip as smooth pads and organ like stabs line the back of a solid, wall-shaking groove. Crisp and cutting percussion give this track a sense or urgency keeping it firmly rooted in the dance floor.

‘Love In Life’ is up next and starts with a contemplative beat giving rise to delicate, subtle stabs that are dubbed out to perfection. More smooth pads fill out the expanse as soulful vocal cuts spill in over choppy percussion. The break beat style of the track gives it a real stand out quality and John fits every piece together with ease.  

‘Shine’ closes off the EP in a more muted style. That ever-reliant House beat comes into play in the opening segment allowing the track to open smoothly with a perfectly infectious groove. John really works the percussion on this and makes it a real workout. Subtle synth hits works their way in help to keep the groove on track.

John delivers a solid follow up to last summers Days Without Freedom and embodies it with his own unique style.

Roberto Clementi is back and the in form Italian producer is ready to rock dancefloors once again with his unique blend of Techno, Dub & Electronics in the Marble EP. Roberto’s debut album N Lights is just on the horizon and this single leads perfectly into it after Januarys epic When You [inc Par Grindvik remix]. 

Marble is the perfect opener to this EP. A kick heavy, grooved out number cut open with crisp hi hats and taken to another level with stunningly executed stabs. Roberto layer the track with just a hit of ethereal pads, hinting at distant plains. This is one of Roberto’s more full on tracks and he really makes it work with ease whilst retaining his style.

BYP drops things down a notch as sub heavy beats roll in to start what is another fine addition to Roberto’s repertoire. His signature grooving beats are packed by subtle changes in percussive patterns and sudden flourishes of reverb flooded synths with chopping hi hats picking the pace up toward the end. Roberto has a knack for making real end of the night Techno and this fits that bracket perfectly.

Rounding things off is the electronica driven Kermesse. Roberto delves in at the deep end again and really shows of his skills as a producer as oddly engrossing bass line and funked up beat sit atop electrified pad lines. This track steps outside the box for the Italian but shows nothing but his will and want to mix things up. 
Roberto has come a long way since his debut on Soma 2 years ago and with his debut album on the way this May, he is shaping up to be one of the best Soma has to offer.

Mannequin Records proudly presents the rare dark italo 12'' “Robespierre” by the italo wave trio Effetto Joule.

Originally released in 1989 on Top Sound Records, the reissue comes with extra demo tape material from their “Ultraviolet” tapes and with a killer Flemming Dalum remix of the title track. 

Effetto Joule formed in Modena during the second part of the 80’s. The pulsating heart of the band were the brothers Flavio and Valerio Biagi with the collaboration of Valerio Tassinari. Deeply influenced by the British synth pop heroes like Tubeway Army and Depeche Mode, the Biagi brothers were able to merge that kind of epic sounds with the more romantic Italian vision of the electronic dark wave.

Some things just make sense and we’re pleased present the first collaboration of 2 of our favourite artists : RED AXES & C.A.R. 
This release has been a long time coming. Tracks were first exchanged back in 2014 and it’s been an organic, intuitive process. Like-minded musically & likeminded lyrically - Red Axes & C.A.R. seem to work the same way. Recordings happen fast. One or two takes. It’s punk and it’s effortless. 
1960’s, psychedelic 2040 arrived on queue. A sweaty, London-summer evening, after spending the day writing alone out Hackney Marshes, Chloé demo’d the vox. - languid, nostalgic, at arm’s reach from the city - the track depicted the moment perfectly. A paper thin Victorian wall separating her from the chatting neighbours, she shut her eyes and got as close to the mic as possible. 
A few weeks Red Axes & C.A.R. were together in Tel Aviv. Ten times sweatier than London. To say the studio was dripping hot is an understatement. There was a party heaving in the square below, a van parked in the middle, broadcasting out on the radio waves. Dori was determined to use the intimate London vocals for 2040 and so they cracked on with Incognito, a club track that isn't one but works in its own way: rockabilly reverbs, an almost hip-house delivery, the strange alchemy of 808 fumes. Already inebriated from the city, Chloé had written her words off-cuff in the hotel room, just hours before.
Fastforward a year. Summer 2015. Niv had sent Space Cream a few months earlier - an electronic 4/4 ballad which already featured looped samples of some of the stuff they’d recorded in Israel. Heady and sticky, Chloé had to wait for longer days before she could get anything down.
Finally XMan, descends further down into psychedelia… Perfect for the London winter closing in. Heads filled with Cookie Mueller & memories of losing oneself in dark, basement parties - the words rolled off the tongue. 
Last autumn Red Axes invited C.A.R. down to London’s Pickle Factory to perform Incognito live. During soundcheck she penned some words for a new track they were debuting, which they also ended up doing. It’s an experience synonymous for this collaboration. What comes easy, makes sense.

After making a splash last year with their debut EP on Midland's Graded label, Montreal duo Solitary Dancer has now teamed up with San Francisco outpost Dark Entries for their sophomore outing, Dualism, which is set to drop on April 10. In the meantime, the spooky, pop-tinged electro of "Emails 2 Myself" – a collaboration with fellow Montreal talent and RBMA alum Marie Davidson - debuted on Red Bull Radio's First Floor, our weekly look at what's new in electronic music.
