Following the highly acclaimed release of Hugo Gerani's EP (featured in our Top 100 tracks 2015) comes the second instalment of "Good Company Records" from North Perth riddim doctor Phil Stroud. Two extended instrumentals offered generously across two sides of the same 12" black plastic disk, equally suited to solo meditation or dance floor evocation! Here is the drum workout title track "The Forest", sounding in the mix or on the breeze not unlike a mid-summer, mid-nineties Villalobos set, echoing through a European wood. Completing a triptych of fantastic LPs for 2016, Will Saul’s Aus Music is delighted to announce the debut full length fromYouandewan. The Berlin based Brit’s ten track ‘There Is No Right Time’ lands in October 2016 and shows a distinct development of his musical style.

Youandewan is Ewan Smith, a DJ and producer who has quietly but consistently gone about forging his own tender brand of deep house. He has been doing so since 2009 and most recently settled on this label with tracks that are shy but seductive, and full of both motive and emotive forces. This album stays true to that narrative, but sees Ewan finding his feet with his mostaccomplished and elegant work to date.

Much of the music was sketched out during a wintery Berlin three years ago. Having left London, hungover from a breakup,Smith found himself broke and secluded in an apartment for four months. All this lent the music he wrote a melancholic vibe;one that nods to the lonely nature of the job and to the darker side of constant partying and all that comes with it.

A swelling, expansive piece of melodic atmospherics starts things off, then the soft hues of analog chords bring a neon glow to

the weightless whirl of ‘Be Good To Me, Poly.’ Soaring synths marry with a raw drum and bass combo on “Waiting for L,’ then ’Time To Leave (Can’t Mix)’ resets to a piano laced beatdown vibe that is wilfully wallowing. ‘10405 (Alice)’ is a shimmering, crescendoing piece, and from there the second half of the album begins to take an upward and optimistic swing through the floating, graceful harmonies of ’Our Odyssey.’

‘Something Keeps Me Real Quiet’ is a concession to the ‘floor with its rusted electro slither, ‘Left On Lucy’ calls upon friend Huerta for a hi-tech soulful house cut Derrick May would be proud of, and 'Earnest Kelly' nods to the ‘80s with its stomping retrosynthesis. Finally, ‘4D Anxiety’ allows all the pent up emotion and energy to dissipate with a playful hip-hop jam effortlessly tapped out on an MPC.

‘There Is No Right Time’ is a listening album which proves that deep house done well needn’t be reserved for the club. It’s a vulnerable and musical work that stays with the listener long after the final chords have dissipated.

For those fresh to the beatless grime game, Mumdance and Logos are the figureheads behind the forward-facing Different Circles label. Along with the likes of Mr Mitch and the rest of the Boxed movement, they’re the folk responsible for giving grime a new face during the genre’s rebirth a couple of years ago.

The next release from the pair is a self-entitled, 21 track long continuous DJ mix of unreleased, instrumental goodness. With “Cafe Del Mar”, the duo explore those same grounds made infamous on ‘Weightless Volume One’: ambient, sometimes discordant noise punctuated by stabs of classic grimey bass.

It comes as preparation for tonight’s Different Circles Music session. If you haven’t secured an RSVP, you can still catch the madness by tuning in from 19:00 GMT. Be sure to cop the mixtape in full here.

Narrowing down the group's style into a genre is almost impossible, as they bond over the desire to push musical boundaries. No strangers to the Melbourne band scene, the four old friends have been drawing crowds through an epic journey at intimate venues and festivals for the best part of the past 4 years. Developing a tight live show bolstered by wild improvisation, the group have left punters itching for their first full length studio album that mines jazz, psych and disco for its irresistible groove.

"The Magnificent Moon" a 9 minute psychedelic disco journey is the opening track taken from Mildlife’s debut LP "Phase" due for release early 2018. Capturing the spirit of the band, this kaleidoscope jam is the interplanetary path between jazz, funk and disco with the perfect amalgamation of cosmic electronics and soulful acoustic instrumentation. 

Tom Shanahan explains its entrancing grip, “The Magnificent Moon feels like the veteran journeyman to the rest of the album. I’m not sure if that’s because it was written first or because it seems to know what it wants and has a more considered direction. It never really second guesses itself except for maybe just before the outro when he realises he may have journeyed too far and his space suit has a hole in it. But then he just jams some gum in the hole and gets on with it anyway.”

On this set Nicklas digs deep into his love for vintage new age music, Brazilian bossa nova and the electronic side of kosmische, while still paying homage to the guitar heroes that has shaped his playing throughout the years, such as Vini Reilly, Manuel Göttsching and Michael Rother. 

Produced in collaboration with Causa Sui- and El Paraiso in-house maestro Jonas Munk in his Odense studio, the pair have conjured a set of tracks that are blistering and euphoric, yet relaxed and solemn. Sørensen's unique guitar sound, in combination with warm blankets of analog synths, vibrating filters and the occasional drum machine, paints colourful soundscapes that mediates the soul with both the ethos of new age and hints of classical minimalism and modern composition. Experimentation is at the heart of Sørensen's modus operandi, but he never forgets to keep his melodic guitar leads central to the proceedings.

One of Italy’s finest purveyors of jazzy and soulful house beats, Academy alumnus Broke One, returns this February with a new EP. ‘This Thing Called Reality’ collects four tasteful takes on Big Bait Records’ random color series with 555 individually colored records. “Don’t Fight the Feeling,” the second groove on the record’s A-side, is built around Herbie Hancock’s musings on what he learned about mistakes from Miles Davis. The tune itself bears strong traces of a jazz signature and will slide nicely into your crates next to the likes of Max Graef and Theo Parrish.

Having pinned to perfection the sonics of the Adriatic, Croatia’s Love International Festival bottles up their blissed out rhythms and sunrise sessions for the inauguration of Love International Recordings, fittingly, with a first release from UK producer Begin.  Bringing the Love International feel to wax and digital, the label will encapsulate the range of music the festival’s secluded party paradise has become renowned for. All the way from the balearic tinges of this first release, to the meatier house, techno and electro selections on show at Barbarellas.  Begin aka James Holroyd has a long history with Love International. Dating back to the early 2000s, Holroyd was one of the first guest DJs at the old Garden festival on the former festival site in Petrčane. Long serving Chemical Brothers tour DJ, Back to Basics resident since the 90's and Bugged Out co founder, Begin has long paid his paid his dues to the scene. In the words of Dave Harvey: “he’s been an absolute workhorse in dance music for time”.  Love International 001's tracks seemingly fit the festivals own daily lifecycle. From the docile guitar picking of meditative EP opener ‘Wood Trees’ to the slow daybreak funk of ‘Daypulse’ where synths pierce through the track like sun rays through the Adriatic dusk, the EP is a holistic reflection of what one might hear at one of the festival’s fabled sunrise sessions. ‘Garden Interlude’ ushers in a fresh burst of energy, with the revitalizing sounds of piano house, paired with warming neo soul vocals. ‘Into The Fun’ is a self fulfilling prophecy, closing the EP on a quintessentially balearic note.

The digital album will be available October 19, and physical copies will be sold at the ten year event and direct from the label thereafter.

Eric Trosset, founder and owner of Comet Records, has released a stream of albums by many of the key players at the cutting edge of Afrobeat and electronic music. These include Tony Allen (Black Voices & Psycho on Da Bus), the sound activist Doctor L, Donso, Theo Parrish & Eska, Afro beat makers and the Disco Afro Series. 

Comet also develops, manages and represents projects and artists searching for new sounds and creating an avant-garde alternative to the staid world music approach. 

The label  has been collaborating with artists such as the highlife legends Ebo Taylor & Pat Thomas, on album projects  with  The Rocket Juice and The Moon, supergroup made up of Damon Albarn, Tony Allen and Flea,  exploring the afrotech sound  with Moritz Von Oswald and Tony Allen, dipping into the avant-garde scene in Sao Paolo, alongside the artist Meta Meta. 

Most recently Eric has been in Berlin working on a new album with the production duo Nu Guinea, due in Fall 2018, overseeing a ground-breaking collaboration between Tony Allen and the Detroit techno legend Jeff Mills, and worked as  excecutive producer of the international debut album of malian griot  superstar Babani Kone out  end of 2018.
