The forthcoming LP from Delta9 Recordings presents everything the label has endeavoured to construct since they first began releasing music. Based between two of Europe’s most creative hubs, the label has stretched its roots from Berlin and Bergamo, in Italy, to draw out a host of inspirations. It’s dark, minimalistic and techstep sounds have filtered across subs within their biggest club spaces, helping to promote the drum & bass culture in Northern Italy and demonstrating its contribution to the worldwide scene. From its very beginning stooped in the culture of free parties and small venues, up until its fiftieth release, Delta9 Recordings have continued to push the boundaries since their inception in 2012. The natural evolution can be seen throughout their back catalogue of music as well as their live events, which have hosted several Italian and international artists from the harshest realms of drum & bass. And the LP which benchmarks a phenomenal number of releases channels the exact same ethos.

The album highlights both already renowned international artists on top of the artists which Delta9 will be working with in the future. As well as the already notoriously fierce music Delta9 releases, they also branch out into the liquid subgenre, which helps to diversify the music given a platform through the 50th benchmark. A host of talented newcomers and critically acclaimed artists stand out across the track listing.

Beginning the LP is ‘Neurotic’, which sees Flipz MC, Logics and Kodin take centre stage. Invadhertz brings LaMeduza on board for ‘Bullet’. SL8R offers up ‘Totum’ whilst Logics and Kodin return again, although this time for the remix of their track ‘Extrema Ratio Remix’ by Dabs. Disprove’s ‘Relative’, Akrom’s ‘Feelings’, Instinkt’s ‘Ultra’ and Ephyum’s ‘Numinous’ all deliver a harder edge. Freqax, Kaiza and Kryptomedic join forces on ‘Bolt’ and SD’s ‘Ice Cubes’ adds a cooler touch. Meanwhile, Synth Ethics’ ‘Flash Crash’, Neve, Frame & Skip’s ‘Say Now’, Stoner & Dottor Poison’s ‘Circus V’ and Underspawn’s ‘Gripped In’ only add to the multi-faceted subgenre styles. And Rafiki & Draize’s ‘Surface Tension’, D Flect’s ‘Sarasvati’, Sentic Cycle’s ‘Juno’, Jazzatron’s ‘Cheap Chip’ and Echonic & Nova D9’s ‘Stack’ further solidify just how far ranging Delta9 Recordings scope really is. All in all, it’s one almighty package. And Delta9 Recordings wanted to deliver exactly this for their 50th release.

Dub Head - Meltdown

This month at Lifestyle we are very excited to bring you something ultra-fresh. Introducing two new artists on our label, get ready for the funked-up sound of P&K. These two sassy Spaniards have been putting in their dues around the scene for a bit now, honing a lively, tight neuro sound. With their refreshing take on high-energy drum & bass, these boys are set on a steep trajectory, one that’s sure to see their tracks landing right on target, and demolishing dancefloors the world over. We’re real pleased to bring them into the familia, and with these two cracking tunes, we’re certain you’ll be glad we did as well! 

‘Dancing Swing’ does right what it says on the tin, flaunting their original style for all to hear. A live, jazzy intro (complete with horns, keys, crazy drum rolls, and vocal stabs) builds the tension with a tight, driving break underneath, before the tension breaks and out comes the horrible reeses. From the drop onwards it’s a straight-up dut affair, with big, warpy bass riffs that force movement out of your body, and stuttering, techy bass sections reminiscent of early 00’s neuro. A tune that not only brings the heat with the crazy basses, but remains distinctive and stylish, instead of drowning all it’s individuality in a sea of reese design. Absolutely essential track for anyone mixing aggressive drum & bass styles. 

‘The Mirror,’ a much darker track, but just as beautifully crafted. A tasty drum funk forms the intro, with a bunch of echoic, spacey synths and textures, added to this is a incredibly creepy piano and a bunch of swirling bass design, before the track drops, opening up into a fat reese riff, weighted by an ultra-funked drum break. Simple, but heavily effective, this track is another specifically crafted for a rowdy club; the breakdown will have people looking over their shoulder for ghosts, but then exorcising themselves as soon as those basses kick back in. A super-strong first release for Lifestyle from Picota & Kumbh, hopefully the first of many we’ll be supplying from these Iberian brothers.

P&K - The Mirror

Cities like Bergamo and Berlin are well known for their part in building the foundations of Europe’s creative scene, priding themselves on the drum & bass explosion which took homage throughout its renowned dance music spaces. And they have a great understanding of what records command these dancefloors. After promoting drum & bass events for over a decade, Delta9 Recordings was a logical progression from their events imprint, centralising their sounds on the darker, more minimalistic styles which pay homage to the label’s roots. With Delta9 Recordings having its foundations in both cities, they encompass this ethos throughout their new EP from MISSIN, who delivers five brand new tracks that open a door to the mysterious new addition to their roster.

From the depths of Serbia, Djordje Jeremic has homed in on his deep, nominal sonics for this next EP on Delta9 Recordings. ‘Directions’ takes you through the motions which have made MISSIN such an imperative name amongst the underground main players, with his judiciously created sequences becoming staples across their sets. ‘Give Me a Feeling’ features foreboding stabs of bass which lead directly into manically fluctuating drum patterns. If this is the first time you’ve been introduced to MISSIN’s craft, it’ll be a baptism into fire, but one signposted by diligently manufactured music. Title-track ‘Directions’ is just as hectic, yet it’s orchestrated in its chaos, with each fluctuating design of beats taking you into the next. ‘People Do Things’ is a mid-tempo stomper, pulling you through each lumbering drop with the upmost precision. Then ‘Hold On’ is more sweeping in its undercurrent, delivering shifting blows as you’re taken along for a more subdued ride. The metallic brays of ‘Endlessly’ shifts through its gears between scuttling percussive and distorted synthesis, taking you bit by bit into MISSIN’s ever changing soundscape. From beginning to end, each track leaves you captivated, proving MISSIN’s artistry.

It’s another EP which is set to reaffirm why MISSIN is becoming a name that’s synonymous with high quality, yet brooding noise. He’s become a high-ranking member in both the roster of Delta9 Recordings, and more further afield within the Meth Lab hub – but his popularity is still continuing to grow.
