this is dedicated to the Kauaʻi ʻōʻō, a honeyeater indigenous to Hawai'i. it went extinct due to mosquitoes and hurricanes destroying its native forests. the last Kauaʻi ʻōʻō was recorded on video in 1987, singing a mating call to a mate that would never come. i wanted to try singing back.
