My Favorite Robot storms into 2019 with a fantastic EP from new recruits Concret & Strapontin, with remixes from Zombies in Miami, Olsvanger, Mijo and Future Feelings.

Belgian producer, visual artist and performer Strapontin brings post punk, downtempo and dark disco vibes to his music. He has released on the likes of Optimo, Nein and I’m A Cliche and is also part of various collectives as well as being a busy soundtrack composer. His singular style is showcased here on two fantastic new tracks that find him link with Trafico label boss and rising production star, Concret.

The opener ‘Abnegazione’ is a tripped out bit of cosmic deep disco. Spacious and absorbing, it has broad, painterly pads up top and more tight and menacing drums and hits below. Brilliantly muscular from start to finish, it is charismatic body music of the highest order. 

Remixing are the Zombies in Miami duo from Mexico, whose dark and energetic sounds come on labels like the cult Comeme. They flip it into something more uplifting, with bright hits and twinkling keys up top as the bassline chugs away beneath it all.

Theus Mago es el alter ego del reconocido productor mexicano Mateo González, responsable de proyectos de música electronica como Bufi (Kitsuné / Discotexas), Sonido Fantasma (Turbo Recordings) y actualmente co-director del sello Duro.

Este nuevo lado de Mateo es una consecuencia de la necesidad de explorar y experimentar con un lado más oscuro, con ondas frías y influido por el techno.

En 2015, Theus Mago lanzó "Ritmo Extraterrestre" a través del sello francés / alemán Correspondant, ganándose el apoyo de grandes nombres como Solomun (Official), quien lo incluyó en varias de sus presentaciones de 2015.

Desde entonces, el proyecto paralelo de Bufi ha tenido una racha constante de lanzamientos sólidos en etiquetas reconocidas en todo el mundo, como Lumiere Noire, Turbo Recordings, La Dame Noire, Ombra Intl y próximamente en Optimo (2019).

Following on from the Moment in the Dark EP featuring remixes from Adam Port, Satori and Tibi Dabo, Damian Lazarus celebrates the tenth anniversary of his acclaimed debut album Smoke the Monster Out, with the release of a remastered and expanded edition on his own label Crosstown Rebels.

A decade ago I released my debut solo album on the label Get physical. It was the first time I’d let myself loose in the studio and what came out was a psychedelic collection of extremely strange and bizarre songs. I wanted to make an album full of my inspirations and influences, for exotic after parties, and with no consideration about necessarily getting played in the clubs. It divided opinion at the time and seemed to defy easy categorisation. My own sonic curveball. Here we are ten years on. I’m pleased to report that ‘Smoke The Monster Out’ is still as weird as it ever was. Still genre proof. Still an ‘album’ in an era of tracks and playlists. Now forthcoming on Crosstown Rebels, remastered and with three bonus tracks from the original studio sessions, it’s ready to confuse everyone all over again!

Smoke The Monster Out, originally released in 2009, was the first time Damian had written and produced his own music. Known across the globe for founding the Crosstown Rebels label, his captivating DJ sets and divergent Lazpod podcast series, his debut album is an emotional and humorous expression of his genre-defying imagination.

Following ongoing experimentation with lyric writing and production, Damian invited Arthur Jeffes (son of the Penguin Café Orchestra’s Simon Jeffes), Classic records head honcho Luke Solomon and Mark Ralph (then a member of Filthy Dukes and now a world renowned producer for the likes of Clean Bandit, Years & Years, and Jax Jones) into the studio with him. The result was a unique blend of music that represents Lazarus’ personality and vast experience of the dark and light moments that are captured on the dancefloor. The Guardian went as far as describing the album in 2009 as: “Less troubled and deep than Björk's Debut, it still captures the atmosphere of late-night clubland – the transcendent freedom, the fuzzy unreality, the implicit emptiness, the dysfunction – with a similar potent accuracy. That it does so by fusing Ricardo Villalobos and Robert Wyatt, and slipping in a Scott Walker cover, might explain why it is not being hailed as one of the crossover albums of the year. But it is."

Ten years on the album that draws on inspiration from: techno and house, rock and pop and drum and bass, still remains as challenging and exciting as it was upon its initial release and will capture the attention of both new and old fans alike. 

Everything about Smoke The Monster Out feels idiosyncratic, direct and carefully thought-out: both the artwork and the title (which references Alice in Wonderland) evoke Lazarus’s interest in the loss and the return of innocence, the imagery of fairytale fables, and the battle to control and satisfy the emotions without losing sight of humour. Lazarus has a vision, and isn’t afraid to realize it. He continues to live this vision through the music released on his label, the groundbreaking festival he curates Day Zero and the story that unfolds during his DJ sets to audiences around the world every week.

Compass Vrubell started his career in electronic music in 1993.
Member of Sergey Kuryohin' POP-MECHANICS band and composer of film soundtracks (ANTIKILLER, DEAD DAUGHTERS).
Resident Dj of legendary clubs LSDANCE and PTUCH. Released first russian house mixes (USILOK 1/2).
Producer of cult radio show 23rd HOUR WITH COMPASS VRUBELL on MEGAPOLIS FM 89.5 radio station.
During the last 20 years, Compass has been playing actively in clubs and festival across Russia,Ukraine and Baltic countries. He also played many times in the UK, Germany, Austria and other European cities.
Compass released his first 12" record on American label SCHMER records in 1997.
BUDU KAK BUDDHA was one of the tracks in the official WARP records compilation, which came out in Russia on RMG Records (Russia). Later, with support from Solar X (ART-TEK records), he released his cassette album MANZHEROK.
In 1999 the album PECHKI I POCHEN was released on Udmurt label IZHITSA records.
Rhodesia's remix of Compass track UNTITLED became part of ANTIKILLER film soundtrack. The same track was remixed by legendary British producer Muslimgauze.
His experimental audio/video project Egofriend was presented at MIGZ and TOUR DE TRANS festivals.
In December 2016 Nina Kravitz released her mix Fabric 91 on British label FABRIC, featuring track LIKE A BOOGIE by DJ RX-5, which is one of Alexey's side-projects from the 90's. Other artists presented on the compilation mix: Species Of Fishes, Bjarki, Panasonic, New Composers, Woody McBride, Claude Young и AFX.
In April 2017 new track by DJ RX-5 titled "My Shway" came out on American label Schmer records as part of vinyl techno compilation "Smoking is Still Bad for You - Volume 1". 
In December 2017 Schmer records released compilation of remixes on DJ RX-5 tracks "Like A Boogie" and "Railway Train", recorded in late 90's.
First edition of remix series on vinyl features techno versions from legendary artists of different generations: Steve Stoll, Tripmastaz, John Selway ака Pointsman and Jason BPMF Szostek.
In addition to that, second part of remixes on the track "My Shway" is being prepared now for digital release. Its a multi-genre compilation from Russian producers - Denny Kay, Kito Jempere, Mike Wunderblock and Darbinyan project from Yerevan. To be released in USA in the first half of 2018.
