Bio - Jenni Diamond is an Occupational Therapist and Certified Personal Trainer. She is the Director of Occupational Therapy Services at the Neurology Centre of Toronto. At the Neurology Centre, Jenni manages a team of therapists and provides treatment to patients who have sustained one or more concussions. Jenni is passionate about concussion prevention, education, and management.

Episode 124 - Returning To School Following Concussion

Welcome to Ask Concussion Doc. This week, we'll discuss: 

1) Can you explain neuro-fatigue? And, what exactly is happening in the brain when things get confusing or slowed way down in the brain? 

2) I saw that CCMI has a 10-day return to learn/work/play protocol. Right now, we use a 5-day return to sport protocol, but that's obviously only for our athletes. We have to abide by the MDs orders regardless, but after that we implement the protocol accordingly. Do you feel like a 5-day protocol is adequate for our situation considering we cannot make educational accommodations for patients? 

3) I have 2 elderly patients that all have dizziness and fatigue as their main symptom. Due to this population being super rigid into extension, how can I test for BPPV?

Ask Concussion Doc - Episode 5 | Mouth Guards & Vestibular Rehab

In this episode, we discussed how to determine whether or not concussion symptoms are caused by whiplash or concussion, and if "asymptomatic" means that an athlete is ready to return to play. We also reviewed the study of the week, which looked at the prevalence of concussion injuries caused by fighting in ice hockey.

Lastly, we were joined by The Futbol Physios to discuss a recent concussion injury that occurred during a FIFA World Cup game between Morocco and Iran, and the team's questionable decision to allow the player to play in the next match.
