For this selection, our label mate Eddy Ramich (Eddy Meets Yannah) dug in the Compost archive for the finest Broken Beat and NuJazz gems from almost forgotten times. Rafael Da Cruz’ debut 12“ finally hits the streets, dipping into deeper, gloomier spheres of house. Soaring synths cleverly trim the bed of fat broad baselines. The Black 80s give the original a wicked analogue touch, with a splendid soulful vocal version as bonus track. With a name like that, you should become a leading actor in an Coen-Brothers-Movie, professional soccer player at Benfica Lisbon or head of government with a dictatorial claim for leadership. Eduardo Rafael Da Cruz Ferreira - editor of the magazine FAZEmag - early devoted himself to electronic music. His graceful and melancholic interpretation of deep house he quickly made a name for himself in numerous clubs from Cologne, over Hamburg to Berlin and at festivals like PollerWiesen, RaveOnSnow, Utopia Island and Nature One. With "Right To Love" he started running his own night in Cologne's most famous Club called Gewölbe, where he presents acts like Maceo Plex, Mario Basanov, Ten Walls, Deniz Kurtel, Miguel Campbell, H.O.S.H. or PillowTalk in a very exclusive atmosphere.

We're delighted to welcome back Amount, aka Nayan Soukie, to Darkroom Dubs as he returns with four subterranean throbbers that effervesce with trance-inducing lawlessness. 

A Darkroom Dubs favourite who first debuted in 2013 as one-half of house-combo Soukie & Windish. Since then, he's flourished as a renowned producer, DJ, and seasoned live performer, developing a penchant for sleazy burners primed for the darkest of rooms and those hazy, sunrise-lit, after-hours moments. 

This latest offering from the Berlin native, entitled Zeroton, is an essential addition to an already impressive back catalogue, with appearances on imprints such as Feines Tier, Running Back, Frank Music and his own URSL label.

Since the early days of Compost Records, latin, especially brazilian influenced music played a major role. In the mid 90s the label started to release the renowned „Glücklich“ compilation series (Vol. I - IV – compiled by Rainer Trüby), which would collect a variety of uplifting brazilian fusion grooves and have a significant impact on new genres like NuJazz, Lounge or Chill Out. 
With this selection, we present some listening pearls from that era influenced related to latin and brazilian roots. Starting with A Forest Mighty Black`s „Everything“ (1996), a lot of Compost key players like Kyoto Jazz Massive, Trüby Trio, Minus 8, Joseph Malik, Eddy Meets Yannah, Fauna Flash or Victor Davis are represented. 
This selection spans the entire musical range from traditional sounding pieces e.g. Intuit´s „Criança Das Ondas“ to more modern uplifiting adaptions like Seiji´s rework on Steppah Huntah´s „Walk This Step“ or the Swell Session Remix for Ennio Morricone´s classic „The Good, The Bad And The Ugly“. The perfects moods to enjoy a Caipirinha at the beach bar and start to dance in the sands.

About Tom Burclay:
Munich resident Tom Burclay started spinning records in 1996, but he’s devoted to music since his childhood. He played trumpet in a big band performing classics like Weather Report`s "Birdland" or Herbie Hancock`s "Chameleon". Thus his musical roots are based on jazz, funk, soul, also latin, respectively brasilian music like bossa nova or samba rock. „It´s all about a good vibe“ – that principle he followed over the years, the complex rhythms and delightful harmonies of brazilian and latin music are just essential elements to reflect that vibe. In his sets, those elements are distinctive, if it´s handmade or electronic like deep house, drum`n`base or something you maybe would call fusion breaks, always having in mind brazilian legends like Jorge Ben Jor, João Gilberto, Marcos Valle, Gilberto Gil or Edu Lobo (just to name a few...).

A sophisticated little bastard of a DJ-mix

It’s about time for the fifth instalment of the Compost Black Label Series – unveiling some of the finest cuts in the label’s recent history in a versatile DJ mix crafted by Compost family member Thomas Herb, who built a strong reputation as a DJ when it’s about merging soul-injected house, techno and disco into a musical journey. Featuring winner tunes and remixes by Phreek Plus One, Osunlade, Woolfy, DJ T. or Rainer Trueby, Herb is also highlighting the work of new breed like Emil Seidel, Philipp Stoya and Emilie Nana, who all contributed high-quality tunes on the Black Label within the last year. Playing on top of the game since about one and a half decades, the Bob Beaman resident DJ, holding a steadily growing national and international schedule, is kicking things off with some proper nu-school vibes until he smoothly blends to balearic and disco influenced territories – then somehow he’s already in the middle of Holland Tunnel, the New Jersey styled tune by Muallem, opening our minds eye for the glittering skyline of Manhattan and our ears for this music called house - unfolding its purest grooves and energy within the mix. Keeping up the level, Thomas Herb subsequently heading the ship towards a middle west inspired direction, throwing in some decent rave signals without loosing his fluent, elegant style he carefully morphs into a old school Chicago vibe! The set is closing with Lukas Bohlender’s beautiful stringloaden emo-houser Club Chateâu. Apart from storytelling, quality and programming the tunes itself, Thomas Herb unmistakably put some extra focus on adding this kind of warm, handcrafted, dynamic live-vibe – and he succeeds big time with this sophisticated little bastard of a DJ-mix.

With Compost Records head honcho Michael Reinboth, Thomas Herb co-hosted the Compost Black Label Sessions clubnights held at Harry Klein and later at Bob Beaman for the last four years – sharing the decks with the likes of Jerome Sydenham, Deetron, Jay Shepheard, Osunlade, Agnés, John Talabot, Willie Graff, Kalabrese, Karizma, Heidi, Permanent Vacation, Move D & Thomas Meinecke, DJ T., Nuno Dos Santos and many more. With SHOW-B he’s teaming up for some well recieved productions and remixes from time to time – these smart guys also hosting the weekly radioshow Compost Black Label Sessions, which has been set up in order to spread the vibe of the label and correspondent clubnight to a wider audience.
