Since its inception in 2010, much of Uncanny Valley's output has found its way into our proverbial (and literal) record bags here at Flux. As big fans of both Jacob Korn and Cuthead, we watched the label grow, accommodating releases from the likes of Massimilano Pagliara and Joel Alter. In its relatively short lifetime, Uncanny Valley has become an extremely well regarded label in European house music.

It's a privilege to be hosting an exclusive from the Dresden-based label, but for now we'll leave you with a quote from the press release that summarises the release far more accurately than we ever could...

The first album of Web Web is very uncut, raw, live and direct. „Oracle“ is the first output of a German Supergroup. Check the musician credits below and you’ll get the score. The initial idea was to record a spiritual- jazz type of album, with all its imperfection as far as intonation, sound, influences of tunes... just like from their big jazz-heroes in the 70ies (e.g. Strata East, Black Jazz).
Web Web’s idea was to record a jazz jam session while to found and proclaim being a fictive band, a formation, which did not exist, while telling people, it would be a secret jam session recording of the Seventies. The prompt problem they were facing: Oh, we never would be able to play concerts, doing interviews, or placing photos on sleeves or post likeness images online. So they decided to reveal their real identities:

Roberto Di Gioia (Piano, Synth, Percussion), Tony Lakatos (Tenor- and Sopranosaxophone), Christian von Kaphengst (Upright Bass) and Peter Gall (Drums).

Roberto Di Gioia (Mastermind of Web Web): „The four of us set up very close in a big room, so we could hear and feel each other the best way. The music became more intensive, improvisations became more dynamic and it was impulsive.“

The album „Oracle“ was recorded on one day, only first takes were used!

We want to keep the burning spirit and the loose vibe we had during the recording session. And we play concerts the wild and free way we recorded this album. Web Web will be on tour 2018, but playing a few concerts in 2017. Furthermore, one main decision to blab their real identities was: The second Web Web album is recorded in June (with guests like the famous and unique Gembri-player and multiinstrumentalist and singer Majid Bekkas from Morocco).
Both albums were engineered, recorded and mixed by Jan Krause (Beanfield, Poets Of Rhythm).

Roberto Di Gioia: „Tony was tuning his Soprano too high, and his (overdubbed) tenor way too flat!

My synthesizers were somewhere in between...HA! We exactly had the sound we had in our minds, we had it exactly there were we wanted it: a bit of Sun Ra here, a bit of Horace Tapscott there.
On some tunes Tony’s soprano just sounds like a trumpet, since due to his weird tuning the soprano develops different frequencies in relation to other instruments.“

What would happen if you lock up a bunch of producers and musicians from different backgrounds into a studio complex for several days and give them complete creative freedom to record whatever they like? 

This is the question that music label INI Movement asked themselves. They decided to set up an experiment in their own studio complex in Haarlem. They invited a varied group of artists consisting of several members of brass band Gallowstreet, Rilan & The Bombardiers, Umoja & Pitch Controller Mitch. 

Guests that stopped by include Freshy Jazz and members of The Mauskovic Dance Band. The above mentioned contributors have helped each other with their personal projects but have never recorded in such a 'supergroup jam session type setting' where there was no directive style to the project. It could be seen as a collaboration in the style of supergroups like Soulquarians, Native Tongue or Odd Future. 

The result is a blend of different genres where the styles, tastes & speciality of each contributor meet. This is displayed in the tracks 'Berimbao' and 'Crappy Samba' where Umoja, best known for their tropical tracks and edits, is backed up with live recorded brass sections by members of Gallowstreet. Or Pitch Controller Mitch 
(formerly known as DJ for the group Pete Philly & Perquisite) not only contributing as producer, but also experimenting with his own vocals on 'Give It To Ya' & ‘A Star Is Born’. Also Rilan (lead singer of Rilan & The Bombardiers) can be heard on several songs including ‘Put Yo Feet Up Off The Wall’ where he complements the Disco & Funk drenched track with his raw vocal appearance. 

The young and talented multi-instrumentalist Lucas van Ee (Saxophonist in the group Gallowstreet) showcases himself as an established producer in many of the productions. 

The Collaboration 
Just like the collaboration between producers & musicians, collaborations have also taken place in the creation of the artwork (Photography by INDVDU edited in collages by visual artist Harm van Ee) and the creation of three music videos to be released along the way (one of which displays choreography by international dance phenomenon Roche Apinsa). The name Birdhouse is drawn from the nickname of INI's studio complex where this all went down. We dub this album 'Birdhouse Sessions Vol. 1' as an ode to this beautiful place that allows us to share our passion and experience complete creative freedom. One Love.

Theo’s SS Translation is an edit that keeps the groove flowing and thoroughly translates all the energy and impetus that made this track such a delight when it first saw release back in the day.    

LTJ Xperience (aka Luca Trevisi) re joins the FAR OUT ranks for a second outing after his stellar remix in the Far Out Monster Disco Orchestra series.
This time LTJ’s slo-mo disco revision of “Partido Alto’ takes the B-side of this release into a grove laden funkathon of nigh on epic proportions.  The slap bass line of the original sits deep in the back beat groove Trevisi crafted in this stomper of a remix and delivers a true homage to a band who knew how to get down with the best of them.
