The new Intec release is from Frank Mitchell aka Frankie Bones who is an American based DJ and producer whose played a large role in New Yorks Techno scene. Having been involved in music since the mid 80s, Frankie Bones was one of the first DJs from New Yorks Brooklyn region to gain global success. By the late 80s Frankie Bones was getting regular European bookings following the success of his Bonesbreaks EP series, which released on Underworld Records received global recognition and critical acclaim. During his three decade spanning career Frankie Bones has even released an EP on the iconic Trax Records, which released many of the early records that defined the House and Techno genre. One of his most popular releases was his 1989 release titled Call It Techno which originally came out on Breaking Bones Records, and a firm Carl Cox favourite has now been remastered and rereleased for this special Intec package, which also features one of his new and previously unreleased tracks. Also featuring on the release are two new remix versions provided by Carlo Lio and Raito who each put their individual stamp on things. Carlo Lio is an artist who in between global DJ bookings, has released music on labels including Octopus, SCI+TEC, Turbo, Mood, and Saved Records. French artist Raito is fast rising through the ranks following regular releases Boysnoize Records, along with having also featured on Mako, Origami Sound, Main Course and BNR TRAX. "Call It Techno" has a timeless bass line taken straight from the glory days of Acid House. Filled with retro charm and warehouse party vibes, the vocal tells the story of Technos history, and the pads plus melody are rich in analogue joy. Carlo Lio's remix of "Call It Techno" uses choice snippets of the originals vocal to refine the story it into a powerful chant. This remix is fast and furious with added tension and suspense. Carlo adds his own toughened backing track thats filled with dark atmosphere plus an explosive drop after the main break. Raito's remix of has a bumping groove and stomping kick drum. Thick and chunky, it takes no prisoners with its hard hitting percussion and stabbing sounds. Jacking in every sense of the word, it's summed up nicely by the vocal lyrics "hits you in the face like a hammer! Second of the two original track is "Light It Up" which takes its title from the lyrics of the vocal sample. With spin backs and filter sweeps, the tracks forward momentum is accentuated by a series of bass drops. Lead by the building intensity of a bubbling acid line, the tracks rolling groove is a sure fire party starter. The fifth and final track is a dub mix of Light it up, which with the main vocal removed, focuses on the music only.

This latest Intec release is one such example of Carl Cox discovering a fresh new artist that he wants to showcase and present to the world. With two original tracks this new release is from Scottish producer Luca De-Santo who joins the Intec family following previous releases on labels including Krannit, 18-09 and Black Square Recordings. Luca De-Santo based in Glasgow, is also a DJ who plays regularly at numerous nights in his home city. Alongside local gigs, he also boasts international booking at events such as Portugals BPM Festival. Track one Reach Me is lead by a pounding kick drum and starts with thundering percussion which packs a serious punch. Stabbing pads lift the mood and the female vocal phrases give it a warehouse feel, while subtle bursts of white-noise are used to build tension. Fast and furious, this relentless techno workout is full throttle from the first beat. Requiem is the deeper of the two tracks with warm textured pads that hold a gentle euphoria, which sit in stark contrast to the hard hitting backing drop on which they are layered. Fusing raw energy and poignant emotion with an outcome thats firmly focused at the dancefloor, this is masterfully crafted techno with a truly timeless sound.

The latest Intec release is from Mark Rogan, a Northern Irish artist whose dark and driving style of techno has been a feature of labels ranging from A.Pauls Naked Lunch to Rebekahs Decoy Records. Based in Belfast where he forms an integral part of the cities underground club scene, this is Mark Rogans first release on Intec, and with two solid tracks to show, we doubt it will be his last. Listing a diverse range of influences, Mark Rogan first discovered rock music before moving over to trance, and finally settling on his long-term love of techno, where he lists key influences such as The Advent, Speedy J, Ben Sims, Dave Clarke and Joey Beltram. 

First on the release is Phase 1 that starts with deep pad stabs layered over fast flowing percussion. Claps add energy to the groove whilst rushing ethereal pads add atmosphere and create tension. Timeless with a subtle tribal influence, this up-tempo slice of techno is reminiscent of early Intec releases from the likes of UMEK. 

The second track Phase 2 starts with the gritty sound of a raw percussion loop layered under piercing synths and vocal stabs. Classic in its structure this track going back to the roots of techno with its rough around the edges sampling techniques and sound design, but in the process delivers a wonderful sense of nostalgia with a distinctly modern twist.

The new Intec release is from Darren Emerson who many will instantly recognise as being an original member of iconic Underworld, and played a large role in the making of their anthems such as Born Slippy, Cowgirl and Rez.

Darren Emerson left Underworld at the peak of their popularity to focus on his career as a solo artist, and over the last three decades he has been one of the most influential people in electronic music.

As a solo producer Darren Emerson has collaborated with the likes of Sasha, Depeche Mode, Björk and The Chemical Brothers, and as a DJ travelled the globe to playing headline sets at many of the worlds top festivals and club events.

Having been on the front cover of many of the worlds longstanding music magazines, he has also compiled seminal mix CDs for brands like Global Underground, and fully deserved of his legendary status within the house and techno genres.

Track one Birdcage starts with a slow building acid line and metallic synth chimes that add texture and an eerie atmosphere before the euphoric lead synth is introduced in the main break, and the tracks takes a whole new direction. Full of nostalgia, this is certainly a game of two halves, and is an up-tempo techno journey full of unexpected twists and turns.

Jupe is second on the EP with muffled synth stabs layered under a stabbing lead combine with looped notation that creates a sense of urgency in the track. Building with intensity, dramatic snare rolls and fast flowing claps propel the rolling groove of this dancefloor focused techno titan, which is timeless in its sound design and full of impact.

Carl Cox is an industry figurehead whos legacy in music includes his iconic label Intec, which he runs with friend and business partner Jon Rundell.

The new Intec release is from DYSART, the artist alias of Matt Tanner. A rising star in the world of techno, he appears following a release on Dense & Pika's Kneaded Pains.

Based in London where he also owns a commercial studio, this will be DYSARTs first release on Intec, and he has a second EP on Kneaded Pains plus music forthcoming on Sasha Carassis Phobiq also in the pipeline.

Matt Tanners Scrutton Street Studios is frequented by artists like Mark Knight, Prok and Fitch, Full Intention, Dave Seaman, Darren Emerson and Danny Howells. The studio is a hub of creativity, and as the owner its now Matts turn to step out into the spotlight.

DJs who have already supported DYSARTs releases include Adam Beyer, Dubfire, Danny Tenaglia, Maya Jane Coles and Skream. He is also a skilled DJ playing numerous sets with Carl Cox at Burning Man, along with past gigs in places like Turnmills and Ministry of Sound.

Forza opens the release with tough percussion forming the grooves skeleton, which is fleshed out with a bubbling acid line and rolling bassline. With a dark and spacious atmosphere the tracks raw aggression ensures its aimed directly at the dancefloor.

Beyond Reason is the slightly deeper of the two Techno cuts on the EP but it still packs a punch with mechanical percussion layered over murky synth textures. Its spooky atmosphere and unnerving tension combine to deliver a subdued but ominous aura of suspense.

Often overlooked in American techno history are the weird and wonderful flavours to have emanated from the mid-west over the years. No two finer exponents have there been than Minnesota's Paul Birken and Freddy Fresh. Their contributions date back to the early nineties when Freddy was exploring the possibilities of extreme techno (via labels like Labworks, EXperimental and his own Analog) - an activity that Paul took up a while later after debuting on Woody McBride's renegade Communique label in 1996.

Teaming up for the first of two collaborations on this 12", Paul and Freddy open with 'The Fate of Thirty Eight' - a belting slab of analogue techno, where machines shriek and squawk like possessed animals on the loose. 'Acid Youth of Malibu' sees Paul flying solo, laying down a teasing reverb-soaked warehouse cut where suggestive 303 frequency shifts jostle for centre stage, around a series of both bellowing and piercing sound fx. On the b-side the pair team up again on 'Fifty Is Shifty': a distorted and demented electro workout if ever there was one. Think of Ed DMX + AFX, competing in a duel for the earth's last 808, and you're somewhere close. Closing the ep is Freddy's 'Year Back'. Originally released in 1998, it was squashed onto one side (with 5 other tracks) of his 'Last True Family Man' album on Eye Q. A hidden gem of that LP, it's an epic, spaced-out trip of pulsing electro that now gets the vinyl space it needs, as well as a beefy remastering.

This is a set that I played at a loft party I did in Montreal this past New Year. It was mostly close friends, unavoidable acquaintances, and a select crew of gay, multi-ethnic male dancers. I had just bought a sound system from an old club, along with a strobe, smoke machine, laser, and giant, family-and-friends-sized hammock I smuggled in from Goa. I had assembled the right people and lured them into the right environment. That's Vibe Building 101, brother, and it will count towards your minor in Funkultural Studies.
Never mind the 'biz'. All you really need to know? I played this set for I and I. Whom and whom? I and I, guy. I wasn't "at" this party. I didn't "play" this party. I WAS and AM this party. 
Download the mix, make the time, and feel the arc of a trip you are free to take. I'm not saying it was perfect by any means. I'll leave that for your to say. But this is over 5 1/2 hours of some of my favourite psychedelic techno-funk of all time (AFX, Aphex Twin, Caustic Window, Polygon Window, etc). Come and kiss the cosmic light, people! I'll be here watching from the foot of the bed...
