Gladio Operations inaugurates 2023 with its seventh release titled “Split Machine”, a new series of shared EPs, where in this first episode the producers Jauzas The Shining and Cycloplex go halves on the EP.

The French producer returns to Gladio with three cuts which possess his peculiar and characteristic rugged sound. The EP launches with "Business Machines” and “Isla De Encanto”, two powerful cuts with aggressive and noticeable basslines filled-up with dark textures. Jauzas gifts us a last cut titled “Equation”, a nod to the EBM sound, where he preserves the same darkness as in the previous cuts.

On side B we encounter the Spanish producer Francisco Aguado, who has recently released his first work under the "Cultivated Electronics" label under his new electro alias, Cycloplex. With two cuts titled “Intercepted” and “Acid Machine”, Cycloplex reveals his particular minimalist vision of electro sound in an abstract journey of excellent monotonous rhythms.

dyLAB makes acid. 
He is an English born but Melbourne based acid music producer. 
Described as a “box banger”, he likes to tinker with his collection of analogue synthesisers and drum machines. He manipulates the sounds that come out of these machines, and shapes it into what some call essential melancholic dancefloor music. This music should be listened to in dark clubs or darker rooms.
Over the past 10 years he has crafted a solid body of music, releasing tunes on such labels as Detroit Underground, Acid All Stars, Acid Worx, Handmade Acid, BWLR, Council House Records, Clan Destine Records, New York Haunted, Balkan Records and TRAX, in addition to his own self released work via his Bandcamp site.

Andrea co-runs the popular Hypnotic Groove mix series and club night based in Inverness, Scotland. As a resident for the club nights Andrea has developed a reputation for having an eclectic and wide-ranging style and selection, leading to her most recently supporting Neil Landstrumm and Space Dimension Controller.
Andrea also collaborates with partner Johnny Wilson on their Hypnotic Groove Clyde Built Radio show in Glasgow.

The compilation open with "Night Watcher" by Avenue313, a Detroit style track filled with atmospheric sounds and a solid bass-line. It's followed by g13ck's "Malicia", a track with Electropop influence and a monster bass-drum, than the third track is "Rhythmusmaschine” by SLAKER has an modulated arpeggio and rich vintage synth sounds. To close Aliensextoy with "Antizer0 Reversal PRG", a groovy track with a unique synth hook and evocative speech samples.

Foreign is the pseudonym used by Miguel Vázquez to play sets of IDM and electro sounds, combining the smoothness and efficiency of transparent melodies with abstract landscapes and dense atmospheres loaded with complex polyrhythmic structures.

After some initial years playing in small local clubs, where trance and techno formed the most prominent sound in his sets, it was in mid-2001 when Miguel and Iván Marín created Silverside Collective with the aim of investigating and promoting the most experimental side of electronic music.

At the same time, he started working in the well-known record shop Recycled Music Center in Madrid, run by Dj Yke. This period lasted several years and meant for him a remarkable apprenticeship in all styles of electronic music.

Throughout these years Foreign has played in several events of Hard Taste, A.I. Series and in clubs like NAO, Dub Club, Specka, Graffiti, Shagü Club, etc..

In 2022 he created his own label, Mutoscope Records, mostly oriented to the IDM sound. He's currently preparing his first reference which will be released on vinyl soon.

Which artists has influenced you the most?

- I remember buying the albums of Bola, Autechre, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Mike Paradinas, Squarepusher, Plaid, Luke Vibert, D'Arcangelo, Funckarma, etc, with a lot of interest in discovering new music.
The sound of labels like Warp, Skam, Rephlex, Planet Mu, Djak-Up-Bitch (DUB)... were the first influences I received.

What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?

- Mutoscope Records is my record label, I´m working on releasing a digital EP in the next few months and a vinyl of several artists in corelease with Artificial Intelligence Records for next winter.

Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now?

- Brainwaltzera's and RTR's musical projects are the ones that interest me the most at the moment.
I think the main label for all IDM/Braindance people nowadays is Analogical Force, although I follow almost all label releases related to these styles.

What inspires you now to create music?

- Years ago I had some interest in creating music but I'm not currently a producer.

What set-up do you use when creating music?

- This mix is recorded with vinyls.
I have used two Technics SL-1200 MK5 dj turntables and a Pioneer mixer.

Strange But Dance Music #122: Foreign

In our 33rd episode we have the pleasure of featuring one of the most fitter producers in the north of Spain. We welcome Roi, part of the Fanzine Records family and one of the new faces of the techno/electro scene in La Coruña. 
With productions on labels as important as Analog Solutions, Several Roots or Fanzine itself, the Galician artist gives us an incredible mix, where deep and enveloping sounds predominate. Listen up.
