Belfast born imprint Computer Controlled Records follow up on their acid rich debut Explorer EP from Mark Forshaw with a five tracker from Chris Moss Acid on a release that also features a jacking collaboration with Breakin’ Records owner and all time don DMX Krew. It marks the third in a run of original EP’s from Chris Moss Acid who’s been enjoying something of a renaissance in his productivity, releasing with a host of top grade labels from to Jerome Hill’s revered and uncompromising techno imprint Don’t and Dutch electronic hub Shipwrec.

Here he delivers his five track Righteous Beats EP which is set off on the A side by Spatial Dimensions where discordant synths and bell powered melodies are ignited by driving percussion atop a pulsating bass line. Second track The Shamen rolls off driving drum fills and 303 acid lines illuminate the track as Moss Acid takes things up into peak time techno sphere until the A side is summated with his collaboration with DMX Krew, Where Is Your Jack, in a rawer toned track, featuring a jittering bassline and off kilter drum patterns which rove between distorted acid lines.
The B side carries two dense and dark techno numbers to complete the acid romp; title track Righteous Acid Beat is marched along by yet another driving bass line as a pistol shots of noisy high hats punctuate the track. Ominous chants of “We’re gonna get you” lead us into final track Getchu where dark tension rides a brooding and dense techno horror story.

Vertical is a meditation on primary waveforms and the polyrhythm of harmonics in synthetic sounds, stretching the boundaries between drone, minimalism and techno. Barbieri's minimalist focus arises from the exploration of the stratigraphic potential of voltage-controlled sequencers, in terms of polyrhythm and polyphony. Employing synthesis, psychoacoustics and repetition as key concepts, the italian composer stylizes the dancing of wave cycles in severe geometries of time and space.
All the tracks were played, recorded and produced in Stockholm, at EMS (Electroacoustic Music Studios) and KMH (Royal University of Music) in Summer 2013.

Having had plenty of time to digest the first trio of “Textures” from Sawlin & Subjected, it’s time to unleash the next three works from EDLX’s newest recruits. 

‘Foreign Awake Pt.1’ set the tone with a series of strung out, spacy vistas. Three chillingly subtle and pensive pieces, far removed from the pair’s usual brew of anxious, distortion-heavy techno productions that can be found on their co-run Vault Series outlet. Using EDLX to step away from the dancefloor a little, ‘Foreign Awake Pt.1’ saw the Berlin-based duo tap into headier climes using loops and tingling atmospheres with the faintest of heartbeats. ‘Foreign Awake Pt.2’ picks up the pace, however, with three more “Textures” halfway between ‘Pt.1’’s ethereal wanderings and the pair’s deeper Vault Series offerings. 

On the A-side “Texture 1.1” and “Texture 1.2” wraps typical Vault tropes with acid-washed melodies and grainy distorted pads, turning two rusty, hydraulic workouts into weirder and warmer dancefloor reliefs. “Texture 5” then, on the B-side, concludes with more yin and yang experiments, pooling ‘Foreign Awake’’s gentler, dream-like sentiments together with punishing bass, splices of hats and mechanical modulations that keep the reverie in check; a must for Sawlin & Subjected fans, and anyone who likes their techno a little on the stranger side.

Formed in early 2014, 138 is the collaborative project between best friends Billy Garcia & Nathan Valle. The two 22 year old Los Angeles natives began the project shortly before launching their new label TXTRL, on which they have released their debut single “DECONSTRUCT.”

Here at DSNT, we've been fans of the 138 lads for a while now. We have a pretty similar outlook with regards to music and it's nice to be able to hook up with the guys from across the pond. They're definitely one to watch over the coming months and this hybrid set with drum machine, acid and decks should prove just why!

Kessell is the alter ego of Valentín Corujo, half of the Exium duo, this is his solo project where he explores the most liquid of his sonic palette.
