Following the analogue-fuelled, sci-fi electro soundscapes of Hungarian producer Norwell’s Interkosmos EP comes a record a little closer to home. Robin Wylie is a producer synonymous with wicked breakbeats, 2-step and jungle with a refreshing take on electronic music in his home of Belfast. A pace-setter in every regard, Robin’s work alongside dubstep pioneer J:Kenzo as Polarity is to be particularly admired, bringing labels like Sneaker Social Club for their debut in a city usually dominated by house and techno.

Now the pair join forces again (the latter under his Hezzaine moniker), this time on Nez’s Computer Controlled Records, serving up three raw cuts of tough, acid-dipped electronics and lairy UK-electro energy.

Inspired by the 1975 Doctor Who character Davros, ‘Davros on Acid’ is an otherworldly, sludged-out trip through Planet Skaro, ear-wriggling synth lines and malfunctioning bleep and bloops providing the listener with a tumbling Alice-In-Wonderland sonic experience; blasting off through the outer-rims of space as dotted stars turn to streaks of white light, landing on a planet ethereal and previously unexplored.

‘Timelines’ is a clubbier cut; a tough bass-trip whose beauty is channeled through its simplicity. Sometimes less is more, that much is evident on this tough cut of screw-face, peak-time electro, before ‘Dynamics’ ventures down a more melodic route, maintaining its acidic energy and blending it with an alien, atmospheric dreamscape for a softer experience as we come into land.

WANTED 11: GUNFINGER FOOD

Stepping up for Tapes #57 is London-based, Paige, made her entrance into the music industry co-running and curating event and label, Night Service Records. Her approach to DJing draws influence from her dance-floor experiences and how music makes you feel, crossing club-focused genres frequently. Her style combines tribal, hard drum and UK funky infused tracks with heavier techno sounds. Music to dance to. 

Paige recently visited berlin for her HÖR debut. With regular shows on KINDRED radio, Paige has also guested on various other stations including Rinse FM, Balamii, Munich based Radio 80k, Foundation Fm and more, as well as various other streams and events at a variety of underground clubs and venues including Corsica Studios, Tate Britain for RA, Fold, Patterns, and Phonox, just to mention a few. For Paige, however, the music experience is more than just sound, she also brings a creative flair to the scene by working as a digital designer and visual artist, focusing on creating dynamic graphic visuals to amplify and enhance her brand as the core in-house creative at Night Service. With Night Service, Paige, puts focus on creating community, safe space & coming to the club for the dancefloor experience.

Binary Algorithms is Andrés Ávila, founder of Furatena and mastermind before Neo-Tunja concept who describes himself as a Transhumanist. As both a DJ and producer, he's worked on futuristic electro, ambient and breaks, usually preferring versatility over generic patterns and sounds. However, he takes issue with the term "electro" and the way people tend to use the word making reference to mainstream electronic music, instead preferring to describe what he does as "Elektro".
Andrés dived into electro around 2018, but it was not until 2021, when he decided to create Furatena, that got straight into it, and, as a consequence, named himself "Binary Algorithms". Since then, he has mostly appeared on VAs compilations and has become more prolific as a producer than as a DJ. He's released numerous tracks on different labels around the globe, consequently being part of the new LATAM electro movement.
