Disorientation

When I bought my first eurorack modules, I was warned that I was at risk of going down a rabbit hole.  At that time, I did not understand what this meant but I certainly do now!

So when you think of a rabbit hole you almost certainly are reminded of Lewis Carroll's story Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. And that is the inspiration for this track, a story based on Alan's Adventures in Modularland.  I wrote the story and recorded it as a sample that plays whilst I improvise with various eurorack modules over the top to create an electronic soundscape.

The modules used include logic and random probability as a tribute to Carroll's mathematical interest.  Central to the control of the track is After Later Audio's version of the Turing Machine aptly named Alan.

Alan's Adventures In Modularland (Part 1)

It is often said of modular synthesis that you are entering a rabbit hole, something I did not understand when I bought my first eurorack modules but most certainly do now!

So inspired by Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, I wrote a short story titled Alan's Adventures in Modularland and performed it at a ModCaf meet in Aldershot in August.  This playlist comprises that performance and also three further tracks representing Alan's adventures in Modular land.
