Dam Swindle follow up on last year’s ‘The life behind things’ with some impeccable disco-funk on steroids with ‘Coffee in the morning ft. Jitwam’.  Two originals, a dub mix and a stunning extended remix by Norwegian disco don Prins Thomas.  On this EP Detroit Swindle team up with NYC vocalist Jitwam, whose recent album ‘Honeycomb on Tartelet’ and his live collaboration with Kamaal Williams have shown the world just how talented he really is.

‘Coffee in the morning’ is a funk fueled disco bomb. The energy is set by a rolling bassline with a live touch (thanks to Xander Vrienten) and percussion courtesy of  Mauskovic Dance Band member Chris Bruining. The track bursts into action once Jitwam’s vocals come in, pushing through with full-on slapback delay, which adds nicely to the vintage vibe.  The lyrics are tongue-in-cheek and deal with life’s more pressing matters like all the things you can have alongside your coffee.  The track takes a sharp jazzy turn once the saxophone is introduced (played by UK bred, Amsterdam based jazz dude Finn Peters), moving nicely between catchy riffs and berserk jazz-isms.  Its the full on original that works but if you’re not really into the vocals, there’s a straightforward dub that steers away from the breakfast related insinuations.

 

The a-side also holds the second collaboration, which moves into NY garage territory. Shuffling 909 percussion, live shakers and snares set the vibe along with Jitwam’s vocals directing you to ‘Move out the way!’. The track is bumping, the bassline is thumping and the crowd could very well be… (yes, it rhymes). The energy pitches up a notch once the synth hits come in and it flows up and down nicely into a section where strings, Rhodes and cowbells take over into the breakdown.  On the B-side, Prins Thomas takes you on a 10 minute Scandi-disco trip with live drums and Thomas himself funkin’ on the bass. He makes perfect use of the dreamy elements of the title track, making his version an intimate and provocative dubby disco burner. If you find the energy of the original is too much, this version might just be perfect for you.

theBasement Discos presents its fourth compilation name TALKIN’
GREEN. After other successful VA EP’s (TERRAZA, HORCHATA and BEYOND PAELLA) the Valencia-based label strikes back with 9 tracks that will get everyone in a good vibe and on their feet.

Be ready to explore tracks coming from all four corners of the world. Starting with the French duo Fahy & Sanchez and their track called “Something”, a disco tune with funky electric guitar sounds, perfect for those boogie summer nights. Also from France, Wikett makes his second appearance in theBasement with Jimbo, a pure disco banger with some well-known sampling that probably will ring your bell.

Londoner Donny Rotten shows his best disco side with “Clean Up Duty”, a track with the right upbeat feel and vocals with a speedy-feel to it which makes out of this belter a real dance-floor killer.
Heading to the North American continent we can find Californian DJ and producer At Down delivering a groovy vibe with “What Goes Up, Gets Down”, combining elements of the sound of 80s cosmic disco and modern-day house.

Still on the American continent but now from New York, we have Azuro with “Get Up Larry”, and Pedro Cañas with “Excuse Me”, this time including deeper notes to its tune.
Finally, it is German artist Sam Paradise that makes his attribution to the album with “Extra Boogie Sauce”, serving some melancholic synth melodies combined with really funky guitar riffs.
We also welcome back our hometown producers Whatever Charles with his track Secrets & Spies and Kostrok with Limbo. Two Valencia originated tracks but two different moods, but both with their own homeboy signatures.
All in all, a compilation album worth listening to with an international feel.

Enrique Jimenez aka Big Pack is the House Salad Music label boss out of Mexico City. He discovered his love for electronic music in the mid 90's when he attended house and techno parties with local DJs. From then on, his intimate love affair with house music began. The sound of Chicago with labels like Cajual and Relief and Prescription brought him the most inspiration. His whole trajectory changed and music became his life. The task of discovering music became an infinite loop of collecting records. After 11 years of touring dance floors as a spectator and amateur DJ, in 2005 he acquired his first turntables, technics 1200s. When he finally felt he had an extensive vinyl collection, he decided to venture into the world of DJing professionally.
Now, with some years of experience, Big Pack has played in key clubs all over Mexico, opening for artists such as Kevin Saunderson, Kenny Larkin, Derrick Carter, Phil Weeks, Wally Callerio, Andrew Emil, JT Donaldson , Oliver Dollar, 1200 Warriors, to name a few. Out of Mexico, Big Pack has played in Canada, USA and Costa Rica 

He is very busy with several internet radio show residencies on Radio Webphre and his own podcast & label, House Salad Music, featuring the best DJs in house music.

Convinced of the timelessness of music, his mixes are a real tunnel of time, where he plays classics combined with the freshest of modern house.

Ben Men is a multifaceted artist, DJ, promoter and record dealer who has been shaping the French electronic scene since the early 90s. He has hosted parties under the BTRAX name at the legendary Rex Club, has signed artists like Scan 7 from Detroit, Vince Watson and Mr C, heads up the 45RDB label with a focus on Chicago sounds and has runs various record stores in his time. He brings all this experience and knowledge to his own music and says 'Pequetita' is dedicated to the street that houses Paulista Lov.E Club & Lounge in São Paulo Brasil. 

The superb ‘Pequetita’ is an airy and bright house track with plenty of exotic synth and percussive sounds. The deep beats roll on, bird calls and other atmospheric samples add rich detail and there is a lushness to the melodies that make it all the more escapist and high class. Sao Paolo's Mau Mau is one of the pioneers of electronic music in Brazil, was the resident DJ at Sra. Krawitz club and Hell's Club, and has an individual house and techno style mixed with Brazilian beats and swing. His remix is a lively one with bouncing beats and busier synths, making it perfect for more energetic moments in the party.
