Its been more than six months since I’ve had the last chance to play some music in front of a crowd. I tried to put all of my hope, my love & dedication as well as my anger into this DJ mix. This journey reflects what I would be playing in the morning hours at a club such as KaterBlau and some melancholic-melodic moments to just make you fly away. Unsere Nr. 235 kommt heute von einem international bekannten DJ und Producer, welchen ich seit einer geraumen Zeit aufmerksam verfolge. Die Rede ist von dem in Toronto wohnhaften Mustafa Ismaeel. Geboren im Irak, aufgewachsen in Indien und gereift in Kanada… interkulturelle Kompetenzen hat dieser Mann definitiv in seinem alles andere als linearen Leben erworben. Nicht ohne Grund hat seine Biographie einen starken Einfluss auf seinen einzigartigen Musikstil genommen. Er selber beschreibt dies mit dem Ausloten und der Neudefinition von Grenzen. Grenzen denen er selber immer wieder aufs Neue ausgesetzt war. Und Grenzen, die er selber für sich gestalten musste.  

Das von Ihnen eingespielte Set ist eine spannende ‚afterhoureske‘ Reise ins Dickicht der melodischen, hypnotischen und teils verspielten elektronischen Musik. Angereichert mit einer Menge an Instrumental- und Vocalpassagen, verleiht er der Aufnahme einen samtweichen und vor allem sonnigen Charakter voll des positiven Gefühls. Etwas, was ich in der aktuell unsicheren Zeit gut gebrauchen kann und mich tatsächlich mit einem guten Gefühl nach dem Hören entlässt. Neben all des positiven Charakters vergisst er aber nicht die gehörige Portion an Tiefgang in seinem Set zu implementieren. Dadurch hält er gewagt, aber gekonnt, die Waage zwischen Leichtigkeit und Nachdenklichkeit. 

Schnallt euch an… Ich kann mich nur wiederholen, aber es erwartet euch eine Reise durch verspielte und hypnothische Felder, die wie gemacht für eine Afterhour sind….seid gespannt.

Interview:

What are your musical influences? What is your musical background?

My musical influences are a quite broad range of genres and artists, but
i also realize that there is many similarities and patterns that are
shared between them. For me i like meaningful music, it can be anything
from minimal house to progressive.

My background in music was mainly vocals when i was a young kid, and
then in the mid teenager years i started playing acoustic guitar and
hand drums. I was always a music collector and lover of different
somewhat underground genres like dub reggae, Indie, Hip Hop and then
elctronic music.

What makes good “afterhour”?

For me a good afterhour is about the vibe, the people and the purity and
consistency of the sound. Solid groovy sound that is somewhat minimal
and comfortable to the ears. Storytelling for an emotionally intelligent
setting.

Do you have any thoughts you would like to share about your set?

This is the first studio recorded podcast I’m putting out after more
than a year. it took me a while to make one due to traveling and studio
work so im happy to be finaly sharing this with my listeners. Hope you
enjoy this groovy afterhour journey.

El Mundo & Zazou Live // Fusion Festival 2022

Every night some time after falling asleep we enter into this dream world that we create in our brain, a product of what we perceive every day, what we have in our conscious and subconscious mind, what our imagination and creativity come up with when it's not controlled or judged by our everyday life reasoning and logic. Not always we remember let alone be aware that we are in a dream, but we do dream every single night.

Everyday I try to ask myself if I'm dreaming during the day, to have the habit of asking this same question often enough to eventually ask myself if I'm dreaming when i'm indeed in a dream. With this awakening begins a journey with no physical laws of the world we know. And with the help of this habit I am so excited and happy that I get to explore the landscape of my subconscious, my creativity and I even believe that I find some spiritual healing.

Recording this set I was in a waking dream. An emotional. intense, deep, soft, dark and powerful one.

While listening and in your daily life don't forget to do some reality checks every once in a while. Maybe one of these days you actually will be in a dream. Enjoy the ride.
