The idea of the Decayed Matrix was an observation of decay within environments in Britain. In some areas its a bit like Detroit. The loss of industry leading to the decay. Steve is from Croydon, London where this decay is evident. And so that has a big influence on his mood. Surrounded by cold concrete towers, struggles to find work, numerous gangs, local debts and isolationism caused by different cultures being located into a small area and having to live on what little work or poorly paid jobs exist. Or schoolkids being drawn into the takings of crime. It can influence an artist to write same kinds of music - either hard, scary, or melancholic. And sometimes emotive, which can represent peoples dreams to live a better life. Steve wanted to push the boundaries of sound in Electro in a search for something new, yet trying to keep it grounded in robotic rhythms. He continues that search of sound and influence whilst living in a town on the edge.

This record feels like it was inevitable with previous releases from The Spy on the label's compilations dating back to 2021. Wessel is an artist Hilltown Disco has spent a long time admiring who fits the ethos perfectly.

5 synth-driven, emotive electro tracks (plus 2 digital bonuses), written and produced in the Netherlands with a new take on ‘Evil Wins’ by Berlin based electro don, Privacy. Will be released on wax on 30th of June 2025.
