Written by John Lennon in India, Dear Prudence was about Mia Farrow's younger sister, who refused to leave her chalet at the meditation retreat in Rishikesh, and had to be coaxed out by Lennon and George Harrison.

 
Prudence Farrow had become infatuated with meditation, locking herself away from the rest of the group and falling into deep states against the advice of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Dear Prudence is me. Written in India. A song about Mia Farrow's sister, who seemed to go slightly barmy, meditating too long, and couldn't come out of the little hut that we were livin' in. They selected me and George to try and bring her out because she would trust us. If she'd been in the West, they would have put her away.
We got her out of the house. She'd been locked in for three weeks and wouldn't come out, trying to reach God quicker than anybody else. That was the competition in Maharishi's camp: who was going to get cosmic first. What I didn't know was I was already cosmic. [Laughs.]

Prudence later confirmed she was more fanatical in her pursuit of enlightenment than those around her.

Being on that course was more important to me than anything in the world. I was very focused on getting in as much meditation as possible, so that I could gain enough experience to teach it myself. I knew that i must have stuck out because I would always rush straight back to my room after lectures and meals so that I could meditate. John, George and Paul would all want to sit around jamming and having a good time and I'd be flying into my room. They were all serious about what they were doing but they just weren't as fanatical as me...
At the end of the course, just as they were leaving, George mentioned that they had written a song about me but I didn't hear it until it came out on the album. I was flattered. It was a beautiful thing to have done.

Welcome to our latest collaboration, and please read the description for all the details of this song.

John’s motivation to compose this song:
We all go through rough times in our life’s, and sometimes it’s hard to share it with others, because you do not want to cause other people pain and suffering too, but at the same time, it makes you lonely and sad.
Although (doing so) you mean well, the people that love you, has no idea what is going on with you, and they start worrying for you even more, and things will just get worse for yourself and them.
Eventually all the pain comes out, and you get nightmares and even cry during your sleep because of it.
When you look at your beloved one who’s crying and you have no idea what is causing this inner pain, that’s what causing my pain feeling powerless to do anything to help and to comfort my beloved one, and taking away those pain and sorrows.
With this song I tried to express my pain and thoughts, and searching for answers and solutions to help out besides to hug and comfort my beloved one. 
I experienced this so deeply, and I remember how hard it was to put these thoughts and feelings on music.
I know for myself: I am strong enough to fight each battle, and I can handle all troubles that comes on my path, but I can’t handle and fight (for you) against “The Tears in your Eyes”.
When you wake up, and see that your beloved one is crying (even in her sleep), believe me, they hurt me more then anything else in Life, and it tears you apart from deep inside too.
I may not be so good in words, but I hope you can hear what I tried to express in this piece, as I know many people in the world are suffering from the same troubles I described above, I hope this piece may bring you comfort as well, I tried to express myself as I would towards my beloved one. 

Technical Inside of John and Oliver’s version of “Tears in Your Eyes”:
When I arrived in Bremen, I told Oliver the story behind this song, he also shared a similar experience, and he wanted to learn to express himself with music and at the same time learning to use other instruments (not only with piano), and at the same time get “John’s” weird accords and tempo changes right LOL.
We took a version of my composition done by  “Quenya Projects” (which was never released yet) and we started working on the flutes (that was the hardest part), we created an extra piano line and harmonies with string ensembles which would fit to the flutes and piano, and we could merge with my existing instruments.
Once back in the studio Holland, I started to adjust all recorded midis so they would really sound like real instruments, and started to multilayer all tracks all over again into this mix / version.
We hope you all will enjoy it as much as we did making it, and this piece will bring you comfort too.

Originally I merged “The Tears in your Eyes” together with another song of mine "No Secrets" into the extended version I released earlier, you can hear: https://soundcloud.com/onevision-crossworlds/john-styles-tears-in-your-eyes , I merged them together because to me these two songs had the questions and answers, I just want you all to enjoy this beauty, although it caused me a lot of tears while making it, and because of that I really think I gave it my very best shot.
This version has answers or at least that's what I tried to put into it.
