For me, it's slowly becoming a tradition to release a piece of music on St. Patrick's Day to honor this saint, the Irish people, and goodness in and of itself. We live in a time where values ​​no longer matter, and greed, fraud, murder, and hatred are considered normal. Therefore, we must counteract this with something beautiful to cheer and strengthen the hearts of good people.

Fossils in the Making - Lyrics

Some billion years ago
a curious random flow
of molecules ignited what we now know as life

life went on to disperse
grew violently diverse
and crept and swam and blossomed into each niche of earth

a myriad creatures grew
and each one looked out to
eternal thriving for their species 
little they knew

that all comes to an end
when time was ripe, they went
into oblivion - just the fossils 
hold the memory of them
And suddenly some strange new creature 
starts to enter the scene 
the age of humans begun
They seem to have developed 
some remarkable features 
their intellect matched by none

With their collective mind
They could find the spell to bind 
The curse of certain extinction
for their kin and their kind 

With their joint intellect 
With humble due respect
They might protect themselves from vanishing
But they don’t seem to mind



We spy into the cosmos with our Hubbles and Webbs
but all we manage to hear ...
... is nothing .... but the menacing sound of pure silence 

out there are a zillion worlds 
older by eons than ours 
that should host 
a wealth of civilizations 
… Where are you?
…. Where have you gone?

The web of life emerges, 
occasionally it purges
And rips out nearly all the pages from its thick book
Life fades at rapid rate.  
Are we next on the slate?
Is perish our fate?  
Our odds don’t look good

Mother nature is not kind 
She does not really mind
Whether the human race will live tomorrow
No time to borrow

We’re fossils in the making
Gaia’s taking her toll 
We could have had it all
… we might have had in it in our hands
... I guess, we barely stood a chance

Fossils in the Making (Piano Poetry)

I never met my paternal grandfather.  He died from a brain tumor at the age of 57, before I was born.  My father never talked about it, but my mother did.  In recounting my grandfather's illness and the family history she knew, she told me that when my grandfather was very young, he and his friends would go play in a number of nearby orange groves. Those groves were beautiful, spacious, and the oranges were free for the taking. Unfortunately, they were also heavily sprayed with pesticides during that time period. My mother believed that my grandfather's exposure to those pesticides most likely played a role in the cancer that took his life many years later.  At the time of his death, there was little attention paid to the notion that pesticide exposure could impact one’s health and longevity, so there was no discussion of the matter when he became ill.

I have often thought about his life, as well as my mother's words. While we'll never completely know what happened, we'll remember my grandfather and this chapter in his story.  There are lessons to be learned from it, as well as similar stories from others.  Our environment should not be harmful to health but should protect it.

This improvised composition was written to remember my grandfather's story.

The Orange Grove

Inspired by the gritstone 'Dark Peak' millstones left abandoned in the 1800s. Over 1,000 of these 2-3 ton stones were left behind when modern methods made them obsolete. Nowadays the quarry sites by gritstone 'edges' are favoured by walkers enjoying the open countryside, which for centuries witnessed the immense effort of cutting, shaping and hauling these massive loads.
