Walter Becker, guitarist, bassist and co-founder of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inducted band Steely Dan, died Sunday at the age of 67.

Becker's official site announced the death; no cause of death or other details were provided. 

"Walter Becker was my friend, my writing partner and my bandmate since we met as students at Bard College in 1967," Donald Fagen wrote in a tribute to Becker. "He was smart as a whip, an excellent guitarist and a great songwriter. He was cynical about human nature, including his own, and hysterically funny."



Becker and Fagen first became collaborators when they were both students at New York's Bard College. After working as songwriters (Barbra Streisand's "I Mean to Shine") and members of Jay and the Americans' backing band, the duo moved to California in the early Seventies to form Steely Dan – named after a sex toy in William S. Burroughs' Naked Lunch – alongside guitarists Jeff "Skunk" Baxter and Denny Dias, drummer Jim Hodder and singer David Palmer.

Note from Alexis Roche to me when I ask him what this song meant and what that initial spark was good got them to write this beautiful song.

Re the song itself, it's a poem by Paul Verlaine from 1870 that evokes lovers(or maybe a man alone thinking of his missing beloved one)taking an evening walk under the moon. listening to the wind in the trees, watching a black willow reflected in the pond... it's basically about appeasement, dreams and, of course, love. This poem always makes me think about "Dream a little dream of me".
 After reading it for the first time, about 25 years ago (I was 17), I took my guitar, put those two chords, and found that melody straight away... I always thought it was over-simplistic, hence never played it with anyone, but for some reason it got stuck in my head and has been haunting me ever since. I eventually decided to record it one year ago, possibly in an attempt to let it go away... 
but thanks to the incredible feedback I got from soundclouders, things have not quite happened this way!

I will need therapy too :)

Musically here... I just play what I feel and like, like many. Translating _it_ into the best sound I could do at the moment, hoping to let out some of grooves and vibes boiling my head constantly. Might be messy, bumpy, puzzling, but this is what it is. By design. Crystal Ripples continues my "Impressionism in Music" series. I love to induce and provoke, rather than impose. All for creative listening experience, so we collab, co-create.... Thank you.

Fender Stratocaster finger picking and (slightly) distorted basslines and twangs. Tones are using Line 6 hardware Pod XT. Post Line6 and IK Multimedia Amplitube.  Korg Synths, including Gadget tool Brussels, which solemnly soloing at 0:50. All synths sounds transitions achieved by playing physical knobs on my Arturia controller. All 37 lines of guitars, perc, synth total are assembled in Ableton Live 9 and mastered with IK Multimedia.

Here's my original track I made after a long long time...
dedicated to the loners who had envisioned a design for his/her ideal city during late modern times, which has never been realized because of its radical idealism and criticism against the reality of materialistic world.

It's an instrumental blues rock, but actually, I wrote the draft at first as a song with lyrics a couple of years ago, but I couldn't finish the lines, and let it alone... then almost have forgotten... but I found it on my HD a few months ago, then have revised it as a completely instrumental version...
I hope you enjoy. Any feedback will be appreciated...Thank you in advance.

This time, I didn't use any distortion effector...instead, done with minimal overdrive of amps to avoid the undesired turbidity of sounds while picking the several strings at once, since I found that my strat had the problem with intonation tuning on the high position, which I couldn't adjust myself...

- Guitar: Fender USA Stratocaster '58 extra re-issued(tuned to one semitone dropped down)
 w/ Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb Amp.
>> Lead(on the right) & Some other small fills (various position): 
 Front-PU, w/Boss CS-2, Vintage CE-1 & Maxon AD-9. 
 Additionally, Boss BF-2 for Choir-like fills.
 >> Rhythms (on the left): 
 Half-tone(front-middle PU), w/Maxon RTC600, MXR Phase90 & Maxon AD-9.
- Bass: Fender USA '66 Precision-Bass 
 w/ Fender Bassman Amps, plus Boss CS-2.
*All effectors were anterior use to amps. 
- Drums: Tama Acoustic Drum Kit w/Zildjian Cymbals (6-mics rec).
- Mixing and a few minor edit (revision) of drums : DAW.

@phil-mcwalter took my original music bed and created a bit of an hommage to George Martin imagining another facet to The Fool On The Hill character. He said and I quote: "Bruce's track was so redolent of the Beatles already. The @conover bed included the main man singing the eponymous title lines "Everybody knows Gene..." and the lovely rich "bum, bum, bum" and "la, la, la..." bits! I cut it all up and sellotaped it back together in a different order; added lyrics, the song verse/chorus, and the additional orchestration (brass, guitars, strings etc). Good fun working with BC material as always! (Isn't the bass line stunning for one example!)"

AND NOW THE REMIX! I worked on Phil's version and edited, remixed and remastered, added a few friends contributions and some different seasonings, cooked it all up on Bruce's beachside barbecue and invited you all over to enjoy the new flavours! Inspired by a story in the Daily Mail about a teenage runaway, She's Leaving Home was described by George Martin as "not, strictly speaking, a Beatles song at all," and "pure McCartney, from start to finish".

In February 1967 McCartney read about Melanie Coe, a 17-year-old A-level schoolgirl from Stamford Hill, north London. She went missing without her car, cheque book and spare clothes. Her father was quoted as saying, "I cannot imagine why she should run away. She has everything here."
Coe briefly rented a flat in Paddington with a croupier she had met in a nightclub, and returned home around 10 days after the newspaper report was published.
McCartney wrote the music and the initial lyrics, which were later completed with John Lennon.
The amazing thing about the song was how much it got right about my life. It quoted the parents as saying 'We gave her everything money can buy,' which was true in my case. I had two diamond rings, a mink coat, handmade clothes in silk and cashmere and even my own car.
Then there was the line 'After living alone for so many years,' which really struck home to me because I was an only child and I always felt alone. I never communicated with either of my parents. It was a constant battle...
I heard the song when it came out and thought it was about someone like me but never dreamed it was actually about me. I can remember thinking that I didn't run off with a man from the motor trade, so it couldn't have been me! I must have been in my twenties when my mother said she'd seen Paul on television and he'd said that the song was based on a story in a newspaper. That's when I started telling my friends it was about me.
