'The Abbott Of Crossraguel Abbey'
In 1570 the Dunure Castle was in the hand’s of Gilbert, the 4th Earl of Cassillis, who had the reputation as a greedy man with a fiery temper. Gilbert’s Uncle had been the last abbot of Crossraguel, and after his death in 1564 the abbey lands passed on to him. This was all to change in 1565, 
when the King appointed one Alan Stewart as the lay commendator to the abbey. This allowed him to gain control over the lands, buildings, and the duties paid to it. Obviously the Earl was not amused at this usurping, and 5 years later after a great deal of political fencing , 
the Earl had Stewart kidnapped and thrown into the Black Vault of Dunure Castle. Here the poor man was roasted on a spit over a well stoked fire, until he agreed to sign away the lands to the Earl. Stewart was eventually freed and outlived the Earl, who was killed after his horse fell on him.

Whether there is any truth in the story is unclear, but the tale lived on in legend. It is said that on dark nights, when the wind blows gently through the ruin, the hideous shrieks of the abbot can be heard, as he is he is roasted alive deep within the Black Vault.
Of course there are two side to this story. The poor Abbott being roasted over the spit on the one hand and his tormentors quite happily watching till they got what they wanted on the other. 
I have attempted to cover both sides of the coin in the musical interpretation.

Richard Halliburton 3rd, went missing at sea that night 
Richard missing at sea since March 1939 after trying to sail Sea Dragon
(a gaudily decorated, 75-foot Chinese junk) across the Pacific  Ocean.
What was He thinking?

 Is it up to you to judge what he thinks
And dream where his brink would begin
Is there some inspired line you could have shared with him?  

Maybe not but maybe so 
Could you really loose it just to give it a go
Maybe not... but maybe so
Could we really loose a thing by giving a go.

Here is my one take vocal approach to a letter I got from Nate J.
That doesn't mean there aren't stacked vocals. It just means that everything I attempted I would keep and not look back.
This is the head down approach and you just work through the track eight bars at a time until you hit that magic ending.
