Straight out of the Ukraine comes iO (Mulen) AKA Aleksandr Voznichenko, a man whose back catalogue includes releases on labels such as Rejected, Eklectisch and Area Remote to name but a few. Now he links up with one of Paris’ premier labels, run by one of Paris’ premier crews – Apollonia. With one solid track and a classy remix from Danish young gun Malin Génie, this is another surefire winner from Apollonia. ‘To The Unknown’ kicks things off with a steady build up. Shrouded in a hazy mist it draws you to its understated groove, iO turns in a very considered production that evolves at a slow yet utterly gripping pace. The energy levels rise like the tide of the ocean, engulfing you before you know it. iO’s dexterity and cunning ability to keep the listener engaged manifests itself here, bomb! On the flip side, Malin Genie steps in to give ‘To The Unknown’ a new lick of paint and what we get is a jazzy, minimal rework with a jaunty skip in its step and a wicked bassline.

June 13th 2016 sees Riva Starr’s illustrious Snatch! Records deliver the next instalment within their new compilation series entitled ‘In Dubb Vol.2’, ahead of their forthcoming label showcase during Barcelona’s prestigious ‘Off Week’. 

All productions from this impressive 11-track offering have been especially handpicked by Snatch! Review:
More than a year after the release of their debut album Mandar is back with an absolute stellar EP! Two full sided loud cuts of pure club madness! 'String Theory' has summer vibes written all over it with strings reminiscent of Pepe Bradocks classic sunset anthem 'Deep Burnt'. The flipside 'Poisoned Words' is a sexy groover with a woman whispering poisonous words. Mandar is raising the bar with this EP and shows that it's all about quality over quantity. Must buy!

Since their launch in 2013, Frankfurt based Traffic Records have cemented their reputation as a vinyl-only powerhouse. The label is known for consistently pushing the boundaries of the minimal soundscape with a refreshing lack of predictability, embracing influences as far-reaching as electro, UK garage and bleep. Each Traffic release captures a distinctly unique energy and intoxicating strangeness that brings the leftfield to the dancefloor’s front-left. 
 
This essence of the Traffic sound is encapsulated by its latest four-tracker: Traffic013, Etienne’s ‘Combat EP’. The strikingly diverse 12” stomper comes from French-born Berlin-Based DJ and producer, Etienne Ottd, whose spaced-out sound takes listeners into uncharted territory of techno, electro and tech-house. His calculated ‘quality-over-quantity’ approach has allowed him to curate an enviable discography of accessible strangeness. With a biography like this, it goes without saying that today’s premiere has us very excited. 
 
Heating things up on the A1 is ‘Rez’: a pared-back, bass-heavy groover with a grabbing kick.  A wobbly cosmic-sounding stab cuts through the deranged melody, keeping our interest peaked and our feet firmly on the dancefloor. The A2 is home to ‘Disto’, an aptly titled dystopian journey into a world of distortion. There’s markedly more going on in this track than the A1, but a distinct rawness ensures it never feels busy or overwhelming. The spaced out bleeps that enter midway through provide an intoxicating contrast to the track’s slamming hook. 
 
Flip it over and the B side begins with ‘Le Spnk’: a hard-hitting 4/4 stomper that reeks of a sweat-soaked peak-time basement. A shuffling techno hat pattern and growling synth keep the vibes well and truly on the dark side. An avid soundcloud commenter described the track as a “floor destroyer”– we couldn’t agree more.  Closing off the EP on the B2 is the atmospheric and ethereal ‘A New Dawn’ where synth lines dance among a muffled kick. It is the type of track that restores a wave of energy to the dancefloor– the ideal addition to a spacy sunrise set. 

On the whole the EP’s experimentation with an eclectic soundscape has paid off in spades. It’s near impossible to pick a track of the record - a testament to Etienne’s sorcery. To ensure you get your hands on the wax, pre-order a copy from your distributor of choice now.

Premiere: A1 - Etienne - Rez [TRAFFIC013]

Fresh on the trail of this year’s exceptional long player ‘Noir’, Steve Bug returns with perhaps his most deep house-oriented track in a while – ‘The Long Run’.

Teaming up with US house legend Mr. V, who inititally donated vocals only, the collaboration brought up Mr V‘s own interpretation of Bug‘s track. This release is as delicious a serving of classic New York deep house as you will hear all year – or any year.

Dessous’ main man is at the controls, riding out a sumptuous, Rhodes-driven groove that references golden era Kerri Chandler and friends, but remains completely rooted in 2012. Mr V’s spoken word vocal lays out the manifesto for these two house pioneers – both are committed to quality music, made with passion and respect.

Next stop on ‘The Long Run’ is Mr. V’s stunning take on the same track. Ratcheting up the percussive elements, the New York native injects hints of the Latin rhythms that define many of his productions, making this into a stone-cold club banger whatever the party.

Both tracks come with corresponding instrumental versions for the DJs, rounding out this irresistible release that continues Dessous’ outstanding run of releases this year.
