'Rough and ready machine tracks from Brazilian producer and December collaborator Innsyter on the new Contort Yourself series. CYN002 picks up where Coletivo Vandalismo left off, channeling that same wild, DIY bedroom studio spirit across nine individual recordings. Opening with sprawling synth motifs fighting against a steady rhythm track, ‘Desintegrado’ sounds like an industrial dub punk trying to channel early Cluster or Moebius and strangely succeeding. The rest of the EP treats us to vaguely Drexciyan, subaquatic electro (‘Bries’) and twisted lo-fi minimalism with bonus eerie monologue samples (‘Superficial Love’). The one recurring theme on Magnetic Healing is Innsyter’s clear love for mournful, post-punk inspired melodies. It comes across loud and clear on almost every track yet never sounds tired. Things eventually draw to a close with the hopelessly romantic new wave instrumental ‘Forest Shaman' - a blink and you’ll miss it ballad for all those weary-eyed party-goers who stuck around til the sun came up!'

Parrish Smith's debut of dystopic forbidding sets the tone and weight of this release with a stark, acid ridden slab of body music which shows a keen ear and definite skill for someone who only began producing in earnest less than a year ago. Golden Pudel resident Helena Hauff, having had music released recently on Bunker records sub-label Panzerkreuz, adds to the proceedings with her remix of Pankow's "Das Vodkalied" taking no prisoners and using heavy percussion in contrast to a wonderfully tense set of arpeggiations, which all descend into skull crushing pressure.

Carrying over to the flip side are Pankow, pioneers of the Italian Industrial/EBM scene, with two tracks from their legendary first tape "Throw Out Rite" released in 1983. With the almost disorientating original version of "Das Vodkalied" carrying on nicely from Miss Hauff's remix, disembodied vocals are cut up and come from every direction as they resound about a steel chamber driven by a raw, off-kilter energy and pounding beat. "I'm Food For You" drops the confusion for more discernible vocals, but cranks up the drive and anxiety to create a very forward moving track based around stark arpeggiation. Both versions of these tracks have never appeared on vinyl before.
Last of all, Perseus Traxx provides a stripped down venting of frustrations, quickly arranged and captured on tape, which he spits out with vehemence in stark contrast to his deeper and more dreamy explorations of house music, thereby providing something much more in keeping with output on Bunker Records..

Wings without a prayer. The battle plan is already drawn up. The invisible draughtsman. Double exposure. No place like home. Hope and despair. Decapitated one-liners. Invisible ink. The fear and nervousness; the feeling that your tongue has been tied in a knot. You have butterflies and the telephone feels like a lead weight in your hands. Household objects can become weapons.  They made a detailed study of the years 1862 to 1864 and noticed a strong daily pattern. Don’t take their word for it. At what point does your business become legitimate concern of others? House of cards. It is vital that all incidents are reported as near misses. Theft at high speed. Throw out rite. You wouldn’t have a pool without lifeguards. The notion that they are immobile is swiftly dispelled. It may be tempting to think we’d be safer if privacy was brushed aside. I think we would be less so. Bacteria can survive. Do not panic. Some suggested it was already too late. The battle is programmed behaviour. There is no pain. What must I fear? Blackness. This was the mood in which to fight the last battle.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro," and our second release is proving to be the sort of acid ridden, industrial nightmare journey to the heart of dystopia that only Dr Thompson could possibly have conjured. 

Hamburg duo Fallbeil kick things off with a crunchy acid monster that twists and turns and burns  with an unhinged energy. This is followed by two killer proto-techno cuts from legendary French industrial band Die Form from their 1985 tape Hurt, tracks which have never appeared on vinyl before. Here we find ourselves in an unsettling scenario with metallic voices scowling over clanging machines in a cracked up way that makes John Carpenter seem like afternoon tea with your mum. The mysterious Slugbug (who recently released on L.I.E.S. and Russian Torrent Versions) starts the flip with "GOBACK”, a creeping acidic beast with it's head down, moving unstoppably forward as a reverberating voice ripples throughout. Any calm is then shattered by IBM a.k.a. Mathematics boss Jamal Moss whose remix of Die Form hammers home a tough seven minutes of mangled synths, bubbling acid and thundering drums. 

Once again everything is in plain sight.

On the A-side of this latest CY installment we have the Dutch electronic new school versus the old school with Volition Immanent and Zombies Under Stress. The grimacing visage of Volition Immanent, an intense live act made up of Parrish Smith and Mark Van de Maat (Knekelhuis) kick things off. Behind rawkish distortion, splintered beats and acrid bars screams a boiled anger; a track spitting on the divides of punk and electronics. Nastiness is taken up a notch as noise ne'er-do-wells Zombies Under Stress take over. Started in 1984 as a one man project mixing Industrial, electronic, multimedia and improvisation, Zombies Under Stress is not a band, it's a project. With them static is bent and doubled across thick chords and collapsed claps in the 1986 "Maan Zal Zijn" before the raw and raging battery of "In Onze Tijd." L.I.E.S. regular Svengalisghost grapples with "Maan Zal Zijn, channeling the original's rage into a mechanical monster. The 12" is bookended with bite as Mark Forshaw (Tabernacle/Berceuse Heroique) closes with the tortured and torrential thump of "Submission".

Gears crunch and chains clatter as drum machines are minced and mangled for Demon Circuits Bloodbath before the reduced and removed bitterness of Even the Good Times are Bad. L.I.E.S. main man Ron Morelli under the guise of U-202 takes on the static of the '83 original, lonesome rhythms fired into a gaping hollow of echo and decay. There is brief respite, very brief, coming in the haunted strings of Penelope's Fiance. Torrent grinds this short break into dust with EXE 2 Blueprint, a sludge stomper drowned in distortion and dripping with distress. Innsyter (L.A. Club Resource), aka Seixlack, calls time with the hazy house bottle smasher; think fog machines and bodies in the dark and you're getting close.

Here the partnership offer the drums flailing beast that is “The Servant (Extract)”, tongue lolling, eyes bulging techno brutalism from 1994.  “4” sees GDL collide claps and low level bass line abuse as a thick haze gathers. On the flip. L.I.E.S. and Secret Studio scavengers, Circling Vultures are savagely “Feasting on the Caucus of the Fallen Divine King” before Bunker back row bully Klankman twists his knife into “The Servant”. Contort Yourself is extremely proud to present a double LP of original 80s underground cassette music.

The 1980s. Neo-liberal excess. Crumbling communism. Military juntas ruling with an iron fist. And of course, freaked out music. Contort Yourself are turning back the clock and returning to an unholy fount of inspiration with "80s Underground Cassette Culture Volume 1." A buffet of beaten up and brutalised tracks are on offer from unknown outfits and respected experimenters. Across two LPs expect to find noise reductions, post punk bitterness, no wave grunts, distortion soaked strings and vocals lost in a hail of pain. A road map into the weird and wild world of DIY back alley artists who, armed with only a tape and an idea, gave the established music norms a sharp fist to the throat.

A kick drum introduces The Black Wig Throw Off. Putting the foot to the pedal? French duo Haydee (Simple Music Experience). “No Gouvernance” revs and rumbles like a cantankerous, clapped out engine. Rust breaks clean in huge chunks as screams and shouts punch through the thick drum fumes. Industrial legends Hunting Lodge follow in a similarly smog spitting motor, the drunken mechanical tirade that is “De Omnibus Dubitandum.” Bass and beats crack and leak in this proto-acid scarred work from 1983, hiss spilling over into juddering chords. Newcomer Catriel drowns “nbdymksmefeellowlikeudo” in a sludge of static, indecipherable words gurgle as percussion attempts to save this doomed victim. Pain streaks the 12”, agony streaming from sweat soaked grooves. Fresh from their recent killer EP on Timedance, UK techno/noise duo Giant Swan take a piece of pipe to “Dare”, pounding it with heavy blows, forcing confessions through verbal assault before leaving it more bloody pulp than track. If you’re hoping for some refuge you’d better think again. Mysterious Columbian tehcno producer Gotshell (Blueprint/Nachtstromschallplatten) closes with a double brewed remix of “De Omnibus Dubitandum.” Distortion is sheered away, leaving those throbbing notes to bubble in a tank of hi-hats and snare rolls. A 12” that’ll leave speakers blown and listeners in need of a tetanus shot.

Hailing from the city of Porto the duo also DJ under the name GAM and released their impressive debut LP on Lake Haze’s Eye For An Eye label. Their music has an immediacy that seems to stem from a background in live performance as opposed to polished studio sessions - an improvisational punk aesthetic that manages to carry this EP so strongly. Wild, crashing fx and unrecognisable vocal distortions layer atop wonky 90bpm drum machine grooves and the pair even show off what may be their turntablism skills on ‘Zombie Zombie’. There’s a nod to early concrète on the closing track ‘Black Sun’s Demise’ with whirring, mechanical noise motifs suddenly jolting us into punishing gabber-at-33-minus-8 territory. The DIY spirit is alive and well here and the feeling that things could fall apart at any minute just adds to the tension.

Anyone familiar with the recent CY LP "80s Underground Cassette Culture VOl.1" will know the name Muziekkamer and we are now extremely proud to present the first ever vinyl reissue of their wonderful 1983 cassette LP  'II - Popmuziek'

'Left of centre experiments from the Dutch underground of yesteryear. Muziekkamer was the name of the home recording studio that gave birth to the twelve tracks on ‘Popmuziek’, an intriguing document of sketch arrangements and primitive, fairytale sampling wave cuts. This is music which excels due to its inherent naivety; the limitless ambition of ‘Black Box’ almost sounding like a precursor to the 90s ambient techno of Likemind or Stasis. On ‘Being Home Tonight’ we can hear an early form of what the likes of Tolouse Low Trax have been bringing to the forefront of contemporary club culture whilst the erratic art-rock of ‘Walkman’ mirrors what Leven Signs & co were doing over the pond. In trying to create something which represented ‘intrusiveness’ as a contrast to an earlier ambient tape the trio incidentally blurred the lines between various musical fashions to come. An amazing snapshot of time and place!'
