Korg Wavestation SR vs the Korg Legacy VSTi

Hardware wins again..... I made the VSTi clip 1 db louder and it stills sounds weak, where's the bottom and "warmth"?

Some patches sound totally different. I was going to sell my Wavestation SR, now I'm not so sure.... I also have a Wavestation keyboard that I bought brand new.

Just trying this free VST out on my Roland MKS-80 rev 5.
Mutine is apparently modelled on a Mutronics Mutator

Even though it only has 2 filters and 2 LFOs, it sounds quite a bit like the vactrol triple resonator on the old Korg PS 3100

I haven't tried the dual/split modes on  the Jupiter 8 much in the 10 years I've owned it! :)
So I decided to try it out today, and man does it sound silky, rich and lush!

Hard to believe it's vintage analog sometimes, it's so refined sounding.

I'm guessing this is what Roland is going for in the Jupiter 80....

Once again I’m on the inside — lookin’ out looking in.

SEM-filtered CODE Omega8 & @saintregis (Instagram) bring the water and its spirit to my eyes.

Single track purity, polyphonic power and purpose: sometimes it's disclosed like that.

Minimal sweetening, limiting and spot normalization, so do enjoy the wide dynamic range and culmination—now with bonus audio!

First solo Omega offering still sounds stunning 21 years later.

A few secrets, snips, reverses, in-song overlays, a touch of EQ, limiting, and “Gaucho” right-side-wet, make for a nice 90 (sec).

And yes that patch change madness was tracked in real time—sans punches.

Phat Fu '23

Came across this dope Ebm @MonteNeuble SE-3X  bassline, in my needle drop travels, which I had to revisit and enlist in a pulsed paraphonic exaltation in DMaj; silky chord changes from “Onward Upward UFO,” a song written & produced in the late 1970s for the St. Regis brothers, by wonderful friend and Parcourse/health food store mentor, Norman H. Landsberg, assisted that sneaky downward modulation. 

The great James Levi (Herbie Hancock fame) and strongman Gary Calvin (on bass) kept the groove going at Bear West Studios in San Francisco—1st 24 track baptism, where “UFO” was recorded—and we brothers have tried to keep the funk analog ever since. Clavinet D6 is still with us: the one Norman unveiled at St. Regis & Leuenberger and taught us to play; ‘cause he was nice with it, "Cry Baby" style.

Celebrating his remarkable life earlier this month—brilliantly and with panache, thanks to Bob Yount (Landsberg & Yount) and Socorro!—brought his lovely spirit, song, and surprising, vast accomplishments to mind:

Founding member of Mountain, featuring Leslie West; Pointer Sisters MD—“Yes We Can Can…”, Lenny Willams (Tower of Power); sampled by Jay-Z (99 Problems), Kanye West, Tribe Called Quest—heard in films like "Barbershop" and "The Taking of Pelham 123.”

His group Hammer opened up for Leon Russell AND Miles Davis at Fillmore West… Wut!?!

I’d like to believe Samuel Barber’s Adagio for strings cast a tender shadow on these changes & groove of mine.

Listening to Bernstein’s baton as I write this…. glorious.

CODE8: Strings mainly recorded in mono—not sure why—stereo flute/vibraphone/celeste colors, Crystal Manson “horn” blasts, Monte Moir rhythms, locked-to-clock LFO pulses, band pass rebels, reversed and initially randomly-sourced passages. A little different from the ones posted from other people. I mix in the High Pass filter halfway through, with resonance on max. Not unlike the Andromeda's 12db filter in sound in some ways

A dual Sawtooth sequence 
Order of filters - Moog, Arp2600, CS80, SEM LPF, SEM BPF, SEM HPF, SEM Band reject
then CS80 with it's High pass filter engaged and tweaked.

Then more normal playing with the filters in the same order more or less

A little shootout between the standard Mini 24db low pass filter and the optional Arp2600 24db low pass filter.A single oscillator sawtooth + sub-oscillator used hereThe Mini filter is a bit smooth and tame for high resonance sounds. I much prefer the Arp2600 filter, and should have come as standard for a better all round 24db low pass filter IMO

Putting the Studio Electronics Code 8 and CS80 filter through it's paces, along with testing Sonar X1 to see if it will become my preferred DAW + Sequencer
Code 8 defintely has a big sound....Sonar X1's sequencing seems pretty robust and nice as well

No compression or EQ used.

Someone requested a solo Arp2600 filter demo on the Code 8
here it is - there is some delay added, just to make it less boring

Single sawtooth, legato and glide some VCO2 to filter crossmodulation, sub-oscillator, then dual sawtooth

All three are patched into a Speck Xtramix CXI line mixer.

Surprised how much depth and class the humble Sony effects unit has!
I haven't heard too many native VST effects plugins that can sound like this....
Although the Speck Xtramix does colour the sound and add a little extra warmth :)

Mostly the Code 8 as source using the Arp filter as source, but I layer the XV5080 at the end
