"Hardcore was my first proper musical love, my mates older brother lent me a Hectic Records / Fusion tape pack when I was about 12 & literally as soon as I heard it I was hooked. Doing this mix for i-D was a lot of fun as it gave me a chance to re visit and spend some time with my old record collection. I decided not to go for the most refined “headz” selection, but instead opt for the ones which brought me the happiest memories. Ive erred towards the 1993 - 1994 ‘proto' era when Hardcore was starting to split up into what would become Jungle on the one side and the other side of things Happy Hardcore. "

I feel like so many DJs these days have been trying to go so deep with who can play the most avant garde music that it gets to the point that the dance floor is literally a bunch of people standing around talking about what a "spiritual experience" they're having. I'm sorry, but fuck that shit. Flying in models from around the world to create your party's exclusive vibe goes against everything I stand for. Real vibe comes from the heart and it comes from the love for the music and the love for one another.  Trust me if anyone can have a spiritual experience on the dance floor it's me, but mine usually happen when I've got my eyes closed and I'm locked into a tight ass house groove. I don't pretend the music I play is better than anyone else's because it's not. I just want to have fun and rage with the people I love. I think this live mix from our Desert Hearts 3 Year Anniversary Festival sums it up pretty nicely!

Recorded live at our Desert Hearts Spring Festival 2016, this 4 hour back 2 back set from Your Desert Hearts Crew: Mikey Lion, Lee Reynolds, Marbs, Deep Jesus, & Porkchop was our victory lap from the best weekend of our lives. After months and months of meetings and preparation leading up to the festival, we barely got to see each other when we were onsite. This 4 hour set was the first time the 5 of us got to truly appreciate and celebrate together at our Spring Festival. Playing in front of our most die hard Desert Hearts Family on Monday afternoon, the vibes were pretty much as thick as they could possibly get. Thank you for making our dreams come true and spreading the love!

There isn’t much music on the musical spectrum which Englishman Chris Barratt aka Eagles & Butterflies doesn’t draw inspiration from, and it shows in his productions which can range from downtempo to techno. This diversity has lead to the Englishman releasing on some of the world’s most celebrated labels including Get Physical, Innervisions, Noir Music and Southern Fried. Earlier this year he also signed a couple of productions to Bedrock records which included his re-work of DK8’s classic techno banger ‘Murder was the Bass’. There is no doubt that Eagles & Butterflies are starting to confirm that he is an artist with some serious longevity, and his Balance Selections podcast is one that will sit with the listener for while, emotive without ever being too obvious.
