The Blue Nile Falls is a waterfall on the Blue Nile river in Ethiopia. It is known as Tis Abay in Amharic, meaning "Smoke Abay". It is situated on the upper course of the river, about 30 kilometres (19 mi) downstream from the town of Bahir Dar and Lake Tana. The falls are one of Ethiopia's best-known tourist attractions. The falls are 42 metres consisting of four streams that originally varied from a trickle in the dry season to over 400 meters wide in the rainy season. A short distance downstream from the falls sits the first stone bridge constructed in Ethiopia, built at the command of Emperor Susenyos in 1626. According to Manuel de Almeida, stone for making lime had been found nearby along the tributary Alata, and a craftsman who had come from India with Afonso Mendes, the Catholic Patriarch of Ethiopia, supervised the construction. This is the new Shango Records compilation entitled “The Blue Waterfalls Of The River Nile”. Seventeen beautiful tracks to fall in love with. The best story in the book of Thousand Nights and One Night is the one in the City of Brass. A crew of explorers, after following a long path marked by sinister statues and a dark castle full of tombs, come to a walled city. On the outer walls they encounter charming young women, who on closer inspection reveal themselves to be cunningly constructed automatons meant to fool invaders into jumping off the walls to their deaths. A few of the men are killed before the illusion is discovered. The rest venture inside, where they find buildings of unbelievable opulence, with every surface seemingly covered in gold and jewels. But the city is ominously silent. The only inhabitants are human corpses, some still sitting in their homes and shops, giving the impression of life frozen in time. The party eventually reaches the city’s queen. Her sparkling eyes cause them to briefly mistake her for a living person, but they soon learn that she too is dead and that the light from her eyes comes from quicksilver placed there by an embalmer. A nearby inscription tells the whole story: the city was struck by a famine, and the people, once they had exhausted every effort to save themselves, went back to their places and awaited their fates. In the end, it’s a cautionary tale about the transience of wealth. Anber is a man of wisdom and true feelings. This is his fourth offering for Shango Records. These two tracks can give light to every dark story. K-os Theory, Max Tenrom and Chalanga live in the land of fairytales.
