Hi everyone. I recently was playing around in the studio and decided to pull out the original master tape recording of my song 'In the House of Stone and Light'. I was again struck by the masterful live drumming of the great Jimmy Copley ... who's playing contributed so much to the song's success and to the launch of my solo career. So I soloed Jimmy's drums from the mix for you all to hear. Now you can hear the intricacies and nuances of Jim's extraordinary 'feel'.
 This is how it all went down - with the live studio 'room' sound mixed in so you can hear the ambience of the performance.
 Great drummers contribute hooks to hit songs - think of Ringo and Phil Collins etc. Jimmy does the same here with 'House'. I can't imagine the song without his rhythm part. He's a powerful hitter - and yet his delicacy of touch is extraordinary... just listen to the ride cymbal in the B sections. Grace with power. And his grace note touches on the snare ... a thing of beauty. When I played with Jimmy I noticed how the hi-hat became his focus ... the moment he sat down at the kit you knew he was organically joined to the whole kit ... he lived the 'kit' - he was the 'kit'. And just take a listen to that kick drum foot of his .... not an easy pattern to nail ... but he's taking the train home. Jimmy has the funk in his blood. I fell in love with his playing because he bridged soul with rock in such an elegant way .... he's a soul man for me.
  On top of that he's a 'top man' too. Salt of the earth. A gentleman of good heart - no airs and graces or ego - he's become a true brother to me. We laughed together till we thought we'd fall over....

 I was prompted to listen to Jimmy's work with me recently because he's not doing too well fighting that awful leukemia that's beset him over the last year. He's in the middle of a very, very hard fight at the moment. Please send your heart's thoughts his way. He's at home battling at present - and I know he'll appreciate all your comments and love and well wishes.

Listening to Jim here, 'naked' on 'House of Stone and Light', I'm made acutely aware that the man's positive character is infused in his performances. For me, he's a melodic drummer - as the best of them are - enhancers of song. A rare, rare breed.
